Absolutely wretched days for Quansah, Elliott and Jones.

Meh.

Title’s already won. Would have been nice to see the bit-part players perform better, though. Other than Endo, they were generally poor.

Anyway: let’s play the “first team” and batter Arsenal at Anfield next week.

Bit of a rusty start to the 2025/26 pre-season.

Sort of explains a bit like he didn’t rotate more.

Anyhow more of the first team next week do that at least for the home games. Fans deserve it.

Anyhow no more match threads for me.

Now I understand his reluctancy for rotation.

I’m not sure it does. It felt like a League Cup semi-final team out there today, with a mix of players who would start regularly, and players who don’t.

I’m not sure if we can call it “rotation” if he’s changing out so many players at the same time. If it was just a rotation of any one or even 2 of the midfield trio then I don’t see things being as bad as they were today.

I’m not fond of how he will only play Chiesa if we’re throwing the gameplan out of the window.

Definition of a hangover game.

Chelsea set up like the away team, and with our midfield in the first half we struggled to play the ball out cleanly from the back.

First shot, first goal for Chelsea allowed them to continue with disrupting our deep play out from the back and advancing quickly from the turnover.

Second half was better, but then an avoidable second goal. Tsimi struggled in defending, and Virgil creating the own goal.

A lot of the players were off. Darwin getting his header wrong from a good Mo cross, Mo going for the far post with a header instead of the near post, Bradley doing well on the right but then messing up the pull back, etc.

Virgil made amends to get a goal back, but we kept making sloppy errors such as Curtis about three times int he second half gifting the ball to Chelsea.

Put all that together, and against a team in a close Champions League fight, you’ll end up like this.

I don’t often agree with Neville but its true when he says when you make so many changes its hard for those coming in. 55% of the team changed today after i bet was an interesting week.

Chiesa gets a medal! Chiesa gets a medal!

Honestly though, at times like these it’s important to remember what matters

Jones was good and Quansah extremely unlucky. Van Dijk and Szoboszlai were at fault for the own goal and the penalty.

Apart from Endo who was admiringly diligent and tenacious, the rest were pretty much as expected. They tried but were missing that extra step from not having much to play for.

Pity that we had to face these cunts now.

Not really. When we were calling for rotation post January, it’s to swap one player rather than playing a new midfield.

Similar to Carabao games playing fringe players all together. Whereas in proper rotation, Grav for example, would’ve started a game or two from the bench.

Slot showing Hughes and Mikey Edwards what he needs them to get for him in the summer.

Result nothing to worry about, performances from some of the non-core group not much better than the last time they were given a chance against Plymouth.

Quansah showing he should be fourth choice. Elliott showing why we need another midfielder, Nunez and Jota showing just how desperately we need better at number nine.

Not overly fussed but if this is audition time for some players they’ll need to be a lot better than this.
