Yeah, that’s how I see it as well. Given these circumstances, and the fact that we weren’t at our best anyway, I’d say that a draw at this ground is an ok result.
Also, on the balance of the whole game, a draw isn’t undeserved for Everton, as they had the clearer chances to go in front when it was still 1-1. After Mo’s goal, everything became far more controlled, and the goal was a real punch in the guts.
We are seven points clear though, and the lads will surely show a strong reaction against Wolves after this disappointment.
Finally a word on Goodison: this ground has never been especially kind for us, but I like it, and am sad that it will be destroyed. You can say what you want about the Evertonians, but the atmosphere in that stadium is always something to behold. Despite the disappointment of conceding that late goal, I had to chuckle when hearing the noise around that ground when it got in. Not sure that the new stadium will generate the same atmosphere, probably not.
So, goodbye Goodison, and thanks for all the memories, good and bad.
At the point before they scored the equaliser, there were multiple chances like I mentioned earlier to disrupt the entire sequence of events. A pure DM in that last few minutes might have tracked a few players better given how the men in red were going long and batting long…
Right before Mykelenko’s final cross into the box Young pumped a diagonal ball from the half way line across field to the edge of the box. Doucore was allowed to flick it on completely unchallenged. We win that header the ball doesnt even get put into the box for the goal to be scored.
But before that there were 5 or 6 winnable balls that we either didn’t challenge for or came out of without the ball. There was certainly opportunity for a more defensively astute player to have helped us see out that game at 2-1
Semi Autonomous can reliably measure both the point of contact and the positions of the relevant players more precisely than the manual system can. That reduction in measurement error means it will make a definitive call on the ones the manual system currently determines as “level” thus onside. Great timing for this to finally be released with news breaking the day after this fucking equalizer
CAVEAT: There is no way to say whether this would have actually been given offside by the new system
Hindsight is 20-20 and there is a lot of merit in the call for bringing on Endo instead of Jota, to help shore the game up at 2-1 and get out of there with the win.
The other side of it is maybe Jota could have done better with the chance that opened up for him. He overran it and it ended up fizzling out, but on another day he tucks it in the back of the net and it is 3-1 and game over.
it was really a fucked up situation for Slot to deal with. Had the full-backs not been booked in the first half, one of them needn’t get pulled off allowing slot the luxury of 2 subs. 1 defensive, 1 offensive.
And as for what you said, it was absolutely what I was banging all day long.
It’s not completely his fault, after all we have converted one of the best overlapping fullback of his time, negating all his strengths in the process, so we can have an extra defender at the back to build up with. It’s not working because he’s not good enough for that. Instead of getting 7-8/10 performances every week like he used to do deliver, now we get 5s and 6s.
