Post Match: Everton v Liverpool (EPL 12/2/25 7.30pm)

But it’s not Oliver’s job to track Beto’s run is it? Once he’s blown for a free kick you have to defend it whether you think it’s a foul or not.

Fucking hell that’s incredible insight to be fair.

I really don’t know what game of football you just watched there.

Can you please point out one legitimate frustration that Everton fans could have had with Oliver, had the game finished 1-2?

Perhaps he should have given them more fouls? Perhaps he should have let them kick our lads harder?

But if he doesn’t give free kick you dont need to defend it.

I’m not an Evertonian.

You said they would be upset so must have some examples.

You said Everton fans would have frustrations.

One example. Just one.

But he does, so you do and we did it badly.

You’d need to ask an Evertonian.

No, come on. That’s not how this works.

You accuse me of being emotional, and suggest had the game ended 1-2 Everton fans would have had their own frustrations with Oliver.

I’ve asked you an example of a decision that they could be unhappy about. And you’ve avoided providing one.

You said Oliver was awful for both sides. Again, can we have an example please of an awful decision that favoured us?

Sipke Hullsof (sp?) Was also sent off.

We had the game, completely under control since Salah scored.

The margins and result was decided by the referees.

Probably Liverpool should ask for Oliver to not referee any of their matches.

Not that it will help.

Just want to say @rab is a great poster and because of that, I will make an effort here! If the point is we could, and should, have done better in the game then yes, I agree with that. We still had plenty within our grasp to win it, and we would have done had we been closer to our level. So I can get on board with that general point, but overall I have to give it a massive however…

The game was refereed so unevenly it was a joke. It looked corrupt as you like watching it. Everton could foul us with impunity all game long for barely any punishment. The foul on Konate for their second goal was one such example. Another egregious example was the foul on Salah as he was bearing down on the edge of their box. We were not allowed to compete with them without conceding free kicks for much less than they routinely dished out our way all game long.

Added to that Everton simulated contact several times in the game, and rather than getting booked and seeing a free kick go to Liverpool, they got away with it. The free kick for their first goal was one such example.

My overriding take away is we were robbed, and it was corrupt.

We extended our lead to seven points and we are still in the box seat in the title race.

Onwards and upwards.

I think there was a throw in near the half way line they should have got. It all balances out.

Here’s the thing. An Evertonian will remember those decisions they feel went against them more than we will and vice versa.

If they’d lost I’d imagine they’d whine about Bradley maybe being lucky not to get a second yellow, or the Konate handball incident or the VAR giving a foul on Konate if they’d ruled out their second. That’s a couple examples but there will be others they will remember and feel annoyed by that wouldn’t even register to us as we’re not the ones getting wound up by it.

End of the day I think we can play better than that despite a poor refereeing performance. If you think that’s the best we can do then fine. But it still doesn’t change the fact we have to defend the free kick he gave far better than we did.
