Post match: Everton v Liverpool (EPL 3/9/22 12.30pm)

Yes they have. Blue spray paint all over them with lots of ‘39’ references. :rage::nerd_face:

That’s what I’ve been screaming for from Trent. As creative as he is for us, sometimes his lack of commitment to get back really does my head in.

Yep…Trents, Hendo’s and Mo’s…and to make it obvious…it’s all in blue spray paint…

Oh Milner was poor at right back, said the same last season against Soton. It really should have been Gomez across and Matip on if you need to rest Trent which you kind of do.

I do hope Ramsey can kick on and become as reliable as Tsimkas on the other side as I don’t want to see Milner again at right back. I know some don’t want to see Milner for 20 mins but I do think he can still start in a CM when needs must with the right players around.

I’m wondering if that’s the case to give Salah more space on the right so if/when we get a ball to him he can do more with it?

Makes sense as before Thiago we had Gini in the spot and Gini had exceptional ball retention under pressure and could come out of tight situations with the ball regularly.

And he hardly ever got injured

My guess is it’s about fitness levels. Alexander-Arnold needed to come off earlier, and Matip wasn’t ready to play more, hence Milner as a stop-gap until Matip could come on. It was a 59th minute substitution for Milner and 80th for Matip.

I don’t think it changed much even when Milner came on. In fact, it didn’t look too far off the last few matches anyway.

We made them look a decent team which they are far from, our midfield was so poor and got run through at will, Trent and Salah form is very worrying both should be providing crosses for Darwin but neither could get into the game, mo did after 90 minutes.

Or he needed Milner to be fresh enough to take over at some point from a knackered Trent. Now Matip is back maybe that consideration is removed because we can shift Joe out there.

I can see the logic in it. If you have a player who gets double teamed sometimes the best approach is to try and isolate him. It either commits two defenders to the very edge of play and possibly opens up more room for the rest of the team, or they dont send the second player and then Salah can win his 1-1 battles. It’s maybe a case of over thinking if it gets your best goal scorer too far from goal, but part of the issue seems to be that Mo just isnt winning those battles very much anymore.

TBF our forwards are more of a problem imo
It leaves Fabinho as solitary midfielder and against Everton’s 5 that’s just not ever going to look good.

No we didn’t, we made ourselves look their level.

But he’s not doing anything with it atm, he seems to only have/see one option to try and dribble inside and shoot as there is no one to bounce a pass off and no overlapping runs to put doubt in a defenders mind.

I thought it was an interesting change at halftime bringing Bobby on, did we go 424, 4213 or was it an attacking 442. To me me it seemed 424 and it was working very well and we were well on top.

Then came the subs which gave the momentum back to Everton for 10 mins, from dominating them down our left, with Tsimi & Luis linking excellently, to nothing.

It also gave Everton an out ball with the pace of Gordon against Milly who to me was very naive showing him the line and he was skinned for pace each time, when he should have shown him inside onto his weaker foot. I didn’t dusagree with Trents substitution as he was tiring and needs his minutes managed, but it did go wrong, however bringing Tsimi off was wrong he was playing well and linking well with Diaz.

Didn’t like the starting XI and didn’t like the subs we were making.

Just too offensive, it was like a kid from these forums led the match.

Just throwing offensive players on the pile doesn’t really mean you have a team to take the game to the opponent, have control and win the game.

We were not together enough, the team looked like a United XI with big holes between lines, especially between midfield and attack.

Yes, true.

Also, Ι really think that our wide problems (fullbacks, wingers) start from the loss of Thiago, having Fabinho and Thiago in control of midfield allowed our fullbacks to play better and that in turn allowed our wingers to move to crucial areas more centrally.
With Thiago out, Fabinho had no partner that would enable that, Fabinho himself played much worse since, and that affected the fullbacks which in turn affected the wingers.
That’s why I thought bringing Melo made sense, and that’s why I really hope Thiago can play asap now that he appeared in training.
