Great photo that, Fulham has a 4v2 out there - Reed is not actually the player who most urgently needs defending. In the middle, four Fulham attackers are being covered by 7 LFC defenders yet there is an open Fulham player in the box. Total collapse of defensive structure.

Top 4 is massive for us, but if not so I think our management would look at alternatives as we are insipid atm

Writ large, it is not a terrible result. Fulham have been playing well, and taking a point at their ground is solid enough. The performance is the real problem. First half dire, better second half, but still quite ponderous in possession.

They make an overload tbf and Chiesa looks to hesitate and ends up leaving 2 players.
Thing that annoys me is if he hadn’t shot, he could have quite easily whipped in a dangerous cross. That should always be pressured in that position at the least. We didn’t even pressure the space, let alone the man.

He is right in certain aspects, but we aren’t creating chances either and it is drab slow football. Slow controlled football isn’t an issue if you create chances or to control games when in front.

Their second goal was a wonder goal but we gave him space to have a go. He could have planted an acre of spuds around him.

I think the issue is that we should be dealing with both the long shot and the unmarked player. He should be marked and Reed should have someone within a few yards of him. Doesn’t have to be an all-out press but there has to be someone close enough to at least make him work to create an angle.
We have 9 players in our box, to deal with 5 attackers. Gomez comes on immediately abandons the RB area to mark someone in the middle while Konate has no one. Mac Allister is marking a player. Three lads have no one to mark and are just “there” doing nothing helpful.
Gomez should be helping on the right side of the box, two midfielders should be on the edge. If are set up like that and he still rifles it in the top corner then I’d be comfortable saying there was nothing to be done for it. As it stands it’s yet another example of horrific defensive coaching, negative mentality and a lack of accountability and leadership on the field.

No argument there but top 4 will be the minimum expectation at the start of the season. Do that and there would need to be an outstanding candidate bearing down our door for them to consider a change.
There will be enough mitigating factors that mean a top four will suffice but next season will need to start much better.

Chiesa is initially helping Connor and as the ball is played to Reed he tries to close him down but too much distance for him to get near.
I have no issue with Chiesa here, it is the other 8 outfield players that need to do better

I don’t think he quite gets it; I really don’t. He constantly claims that we are the dominant team with the football. But we are not creating anything, and teams are more than happy to let us have 70% possession and only have 2-3 shots on target per game to show for it. It’s predictable, it’s slow, and it’s boring as fuck
