Seen it all before. We try to slow the game down and play walking football right from the first whistle. Teams that come out and play as quickly and determined as Fulham will always make us struggle under these circumstances… We knew they would start fast and we should have been prepared for it. sadly we lack the pace and bite in MF to compete until the edge is off the game. We need a younger version of Millie but it seems we are prepared to take the risk of playing a physically light midfield. Millie motm for me and Nunez worth a mention.
Trent needs to learn how to defend that far post. He has been caught out like that before. Must admit I thought the forearm smash to his neck might have been enough to get us out of it but sadly not.
Not the end of the world but we really do need a quicker , more determined midfielder with Ox , Thiago and Naby all very injury prone and sadly Curtis beginning to look that , I feel we should be spending.
I think Henderson has a lot to offer, but he’s not necessarily the best option as that right sided 8 anymore. I think there will be plenty of games where Keita or Elliot are the better choice.
With that being said, I also think there are many situations where Henderson is a better choice than Fabinho at the base of the midfield. He’s better on the ball and he’s more mobile.
Getting the balance right is going to be tricky, just picking the three most senior options isn’t going to cut it.
I think games we are comfortably in front Henderson off for Elliott about the hour mark, that was before Thiago injury. Now we need Naby to step in and play regularly and remain injury free, a big ask I know.
Ha, ha! That’s a good one. Hilarious!
Joel managed it last season.
You’re right, he did.
And Henderson
Yes, but both are much better players than Naby.
It’s the most standard penalty in the PL. There’s an argument that it should never be given. It’s daft that there’s different rules for penalty box than rest of the pitch. But it will be given 99% of the time, for any team.
Got bored reading the rest of that story.
you referring to me? if so i am sorry i was listening to my michael jackson LP.
Virg had a leg stretched out in front of the direction of the player so it isn’t a coming together
Virg was careless contact happened and a Freekick was given, simple
It’s a seen them given penalty. In other words, highly dependant on how the individual ref sees it. Some will give, and I’d say many also won’t.
Take Martinez on Welbeck. That’s a situation where I would argue more refs than not will give a pen (not 99%, more like 80% plus). As it was, Paul Tierney saw it differently.
So in a highly subjective decision, we fall on the wrong side. It happens.
But to claim 99% is just taking the proverbial. You’re having a giraffe.
Sound Joe…
Thanks for your view, as always.
Edit following advice from @RedOpium
I think you are wrong here.
Ps
No need to read anything you dont want to.
He pulled his leg back, Mitrovic ran into him. Ergo, a coming together.
feck me lad! he was in the process of pulling his leg back when he fouled Mitrovic. Either get a new tv or a new pair of specs … with the cost of living crisis i don’t expect you to purchase both.
You don’t get it Virg stuck a leg out he didn’t get it back in time and Mitrovic’s momentum i.e the direction he was running in possession of the ball took him into Virg’s still outstretched leg, there was contact therefore a freekick, yes a little soft and I do agree Mo probably wouldn’t get the same call but does not mean that it isn’t a foul.
Fouls are called in 3 ways careless, reckless or using excessive force, Virg was careless as he mistimed his challenge.
I, at 1st, thought it looked like a foul, then on the replays thought there was no contact and therefore no foul and finally I saw a replay showing contact. The ref then had a decision to make and from his angle, he was confident to call the foul.
Maybe some need to use "in my opinion " in their posts.
Ok
As @RedOpium has suggested…
In my opinion, and in the laws of the game…
Not all contact is deemed to be a foul.
@Sportbilly1966
The ref has to be more than confident, he has to be certain, hence the introduction of VAR.
In my opinion the decision to award a penalty is incorrect.
In my opinion Atwell is biased and gas previous form vs Liverpool.
In my opinion Brighton were denied a 100% penalty vs Utd, whilst an extremely dubious penalty decision goes against Liverpool. Again…
