Post match: Fulham v's Liverpool (PL Matchday 01 06/08/2022 12:30 : 2-2

“It’s not us”. He also said we didn’t deserve anything from the match.

The Boss is not happy.

Also when some of those nasty early challenges, why wasn’t anyone backing up Diaz? They should have been in the faces of the Fulham defenders. And once in a while a retaliatory tackle goes a long way

Agree…BT Sports…Macca…and some other numps…

THIS!! I was screaming for runs beyond the ball

Ok
It appears my first response was too robust for you, or whoever flagged it.

Your initial, post put in bold to help your case, was the actions of a plastic wannabee mod, attempting to dictate how discussion could progress.
Well, some of us will speak about the penalty that was incorrectly awarded.

Your response to mine then strayed into the area of therapy/medication which genuinely isn’t funny or a matter to joke about. Enough of stigma there without your attempt at humour.

Hold on, Kloppo played against Mitrovic? As a player???

:joy:

What :exploding_head:, no way

Don’t mention the penalty incident! I mentioned it in the pre match thread, but didn’t get away with it.

First game I’ve missed live for about 3 years and everything turned to poo by all accounts.

I’ve just watched the highlights on Sky but that doesn’t really give a full impression. The conceded goals look like early season sloppiness. The ones we scored looked promising - Núñez and Salah seem to work well together. Días was very close himself although there was no indication how well he is linking up.

Dropped points are a bit of a blow but form will improve with match practice. I’m not sure whether injuries will. Thiago is out now. If there’s a possible replacement lined up (e.g. for Ox) then it may be prudent to move now rather than next season.

And should the 1st Fulham goal have counted…I thought Mitrovic climbed on Trent and held him down…thus not allowing Trent to defend…but it did, the ref didn’t look, so we carry on…so ONWARDS N UPWARDS…

A catastrophe! It’s over! It’s netball and crown green bowling for me for the rest of the season!

We moved the ball way too slowly in the first half, there weren’t enough runs off the ball which meant it was easy for the front 3 to get crowded out. We waited too long to switch the point of attack.

Every time we swiftly went from one side to the other and back we found a path to their box. We just didn’t do it enough. We were sloppy in possession, too many balls booted to touch for my liking. Best moments in the first half were when Matip strode forward with the ball and found event passes to the wings which would normally allow us to build a chance. Midfield simply wasn’t up to scratch today.

Elliott in the second half being the exception

I could see Fulham playing aggressively…but please some of the elbows to the kidneys and backs of the neck really needed to be fouls…but ref thought no…so he wants to buck his ideas up…

Poor start to what will be a good season.

Salah and Nunez on the scoresheet will be common sight I feel.

Pen was a pen, Virg shouldnt have stuck a leg out. Sort of thing where when we get it we say the opposition should know better. Yes its not given every time, but given often enough. Yes we dont always get them either, but again we get a fair few like this - jota vs palace anyone?

Two games down and already some of you are having a long season.

Roll on Palace.

We have Hendo and that’s it. It’s not always possible by yourself. Sometimes Hendo needs Millie!

Credit to Fulham. Newly promoted, first game of season at home, they gave it beans. Ok, some rough stuff, and cynical going over, but they did what the ref allowed them to do. Mitrovic has improved his conditioning too. He was always a handful, but could never go for a full game.

On our end we just weren’t on it. Too many poor performances, too lackadaisical, not enough football from us.

We got back into it - how could we not, with the quality we have? But then we spewed it again.

Matip gave the ball away - didn’t see anyone mention it in the post match thread - trying a pass that wasn’t really on, which he didn’t hit with any zip either.

They broke and it led to the penalty. We can debate it all we like but it was given and that’s that. Definite contact, but a soft one, but it happens. VVD could have done better there too.

It’s tempting to go overboard in criticizing the whole team, especially as the margins are so tight in the battle with Man City, but we should probably take a deep breath, be good to each other as internet fans on here, and see what the response will be for the reds.

Nunez is laden with threat. It was nice to see him and Salah linking up a bit too.

Much more improvement to come, but even so, a disappointing result. It happens.

The worst performance since the Aston Villa debacle a couple of seasons ago. Players looking like they just had to turn out and Fulham would roll over. Giving the ball away continually in the first half. A slight improvement when Nunez and Milly came on but nowhere near good enough. Thought Fulham penalty was a stone waller. Very early days but hopefully Jurgen will sort it out. Like a lot more on here I said a couple of weeks ago that we need another top midfielder before the window closes.

Yeah, had that ironic thought myself. Not much intensity on display.

We need more freshness in the squad, like Nunez and Diaz. Too many players in that XI 30+

Thiago getting on, injury prone and leggy.
Hendo the same.
Bobby the same.
Milner the same.
Matip getting there.
Not saying anything bad about Virgil but how much longer can we rely on him?
Ox still at the club when he should’ve been moved on years ago to make space for another player.

Hendo and Bobby were really bad today, and you have to question the durability of these players.

Fabinho is a top class player but he’s very slow, put players around him who have lost that peak sharpness years ago and you get a flat performance like today.

Again this isn’t a meltdown but more of an observation, feels like we’re running the same team into the ground season after season. I’m pretty sure about 9-10 of those who started today started the first league game 4 years ago and now it’s like ok….where’s the fresh blood.
