Post match: Fulham v's Liverpool (PL Matchday 01 06/08/2022 12:30 : 2-2

We played that like a pre-season game. Fulham played it like a playoff promotion game. I thought a draw is what we deserved.

Last year this sort of result was extremely costly. Enough to cost the title. This season, there has been a lot of squad change at City, so I’m hoping there are a lot more random points dropped from lesser teams across the competition.

Shithouse way, both in intensity and application, to start off the season though. Pretty much all the older heads need to have a long, hard look at themselves.

Really shite game. Didn’t play well, and clearly we need to be a lot, lot better.

That said, I’m not having that as a pen. Absolutely fucking shithouse dive from Mitrovic, that Madley could not wait to give.

We are going to go 37-1-0 this season

My final word on it, unless someone says something that it is wrong and I have to “actually” them, is…

  • Its the sort of soft one that most people acknowledge doesn’t impede the forward and we’d prefer if they weren’t given
  • But we’re familiar enough with them being given that when it happens against us we feel we cannot complain
  • Yet we have a feeling that if Mo went down under those circumstances it would be touch and go
  • And if he got it there would then be week’s worth of focus of how he goes down easily

The fact is that at the beginning of last season refs were directed to be more conscious of forwards electing to go down under contact that didnt impede them and to not give those as fouls. The game would be better if we had a higher bar for giving these incidents as fouls because as it is there are incentives for players that leaves us having to defend our own players for diving under contact because that’s just how the game is refereed.

The entire incident depends on the refs decision, var 100% can’t change that decision either way, not even remotely close to a obvious error. Very soft without a doubt, either way, technically a penalty.

These guys will take a LOT of points off other teams this season. Bloody well played Fulham.

Kind of glad I couldn’t get a stream to work. Checked in here, saw what was going on and decided that cleaning the bathroom was more enjoyable.

We need additional players like Thiago who play in midfield that are comfortable in possession when we are being pressed, Fab and Hendo aren’t those players. Not saying they aren’t good but we do struggle against an aggressive press

Hendo was far too high in the 1st half and never provided a passing option to our defenders and was part of why we couldn’t get out

MOTM?
Hard to pick, for me it’s Darwin and Mo.
I refuse to pick a third one.
Very disappointed, expected more

You can substitute ‘Salah’ with ‘Zaha’, ‘Kane’ (yes he absolutely has a reputation as a diver in the football supporter world despite LFC fans thinking he’s treated like a media darling), ‘Bruno’ etc and it will equally apply. It looks to me like Mitrovic will continue his flopping and diving to draw free kicks and penalties throughout the season. The only way he’ll avoid being lumped in with Salah and co is because he’s playing for the underdog team. In a way, even though I mentioned Zaha above, the guy IMO is the worst in the league in terms of going down under minimal contact and it’s merely through playing for CP that he avoids the scrutiny he deserves.

to me its a penalty. i understand people thinking it wasnt, but to me it was.

having said that, the moment Mitrovic got the ball i was mentally thinking what VVD forward pass would be when he nips in a grabbed it…Mitrovic seemed as slow as any player on the park when he was getting that ball in the second Half…the fact he found himself one on one in the box and selling VVD just summerises the whole game for me.

thought we were horribly lazy, despite constantly defending him in the past TAA was all at sea for the goal, hands or no hands in the back, the midfield was constantly flat footed, and misplacing passes, but the balls into thier feet were just as poor, wrong side of the player, fizzed in too hard or just too inacurate.

Diaz work rate in the first (60?) probably sees he get MOTM for me, but its a poor field to pick from.

lots of mentions for Nunez, we changed our play the moment he came on, but thats more a team tactic and ingame situation than anything Darwin did well personally in my mind, great little flick for the goal, a really strong header accross the box and a few other good moments, but to be honest, i thought he looked a little clumsy and too reactive in crucial moments, even Mos goal came from what probably should have been a Nunez attempt on goal, but it fortuitisly just bounced off him…and not for the first moment.

to me his work rate was good, his willingness to force moments a positive, but its going to take a bit to get up to pace with this team (hard to actually type that after that performance) and i hope hes not bagged too much when a performance like that draws a blank.

Milly was good, but only because he decided that this football lark requires effort and to press into the box, a few times he ended in the box in good positions just through sheer effort, that was sadly lacking everywhere else.

Harvey was OK, again, benefitted from the ingame situation more than anything he did personally.

the fullbacks really got to me, goal aside as moments sometimes happen, i want to use the words arrogant and complacent to describe the performance.

might turn out to be just exactly what the doctor ordered- this early in the season-, but i wish he had of ordered it during training in the middle of the week- not a PL game with points riding on it.

Jurgens face during the game summed it up to me, he looked like he was confused about what he was seeing. rightly so.

This is what we always persuade ourselves when we fuck up against relegation fodder. Never happens though.

Good to hear an honest response from Juergen today. As always a man who never wraps it up. Maybe he was partly responsible in the lead up to this game saying the good vibe between the players is what he wants to use this season?
Well there is no doubt about the vibe but what we needed today against a well organised and firstly Fulham was steel. We didn’t have that and the players now know they can’t just turn up and expect teams to roll over. It’s a new season and it’s the Prem. Every game against us is a cup game for the opposition. Must do better…a lot better

That happens in every premier league game and every corner.
I’m not sure if TAA even knew Mitrovic was behind him. Regardless, Mitrovic had the better approach and TAA could have made things more difficult at best, but didnt manage to do that.

I thought Henderson was fouled in the build-up to Fulham’s first goal. Attwell on VAR once again displaying his clear corruption.

All the commentators said it was an acceptable coming together…nothing much really…not to them it wasn’t…but to us…it could’ve changed the game…Atwell the duckegg on VAR…

I thought that during the post match interview, the Boss was asked about the incident on Hendo, and he said that VAR would not have gone that far back anyways…so if the ref did not make the call then, the goal would not be called back.
