Apparently. I guess they think if they penalise every little shirt pull the game would never get started.
Why can’t players wear skin tight shirts like cyclists or skiers or whatever? Then there’d nothing to grab.

They were in fashion for a while I remember but I don’t think the players like them in general. Not comfortable to play in.
Cyclists do it for the aerodynamics, not comfort.
Maybe they could slather on olive oil like Adama Traore was doing so he couldn’t be grabbed

Looking at Wirtz, he is little more than a ‘Peter Pan’ figure tiptoeing through tackles like no one else can… Slight grab and tug of his shirt, the guy will definitely be pulled off balance and go to ground… same tug on the shirt of ‘Fat’ Frankie Lampard, the guy wouldn’t feel it…!

It was a shirt pull and it clearly impeded his progress. I don’t really understand the debate about the justness of the pen.
My only doubt about the penalty was that we just don’t get them. So I was surprised it was given.

I’m really torn on it.
Wirtz going full swan lake was certainly OTT and can be argued that getting the decision justifies that kind of behaviour. That’s something I definitely don’t like to see.
BUT, do we get that decision without the theatrics? Not a chance, which then justifies shirt pulling as a reasonable thing to do.

I did a bit of work with the kit man at the Bradford Bulls in 97 and they used a figure hugging shirt the logic nothing to grab when been tackled. The players hated them saying it trapped the fabric right against you made movement harder.

When I used to play competitively (amateur to semi-pro level) I used to hate wearing the under layers during winter as sometimes it would be hard to breathe in them.
Not in a million years. But then we have long known the bias. Especially against Mo. Also Sadio.
