Post match: Inter v Liverpool (UCL 9/12/25 8pm)

We won

I was asleep and didn’t get to watch it

The only reason I mention it is that we can expect the same treatment when we go there.

I started watching late last night (mini me’s homework took priority) so probably not in the best place to comment on the game overall.

What I did see was a lot of effort particularly to get back which is good but I was also looking carefully at trying figure out our shape etc. Honestly, it wasn’t obvious to me at all other than a lot more bodies in midfield. Maybe there’s something to work on there? I’ll bow to those that saw more of the game than me.

No hooray Henry though.

I can’t imagine that lot being friends with anyone.

I’ve just listened to Slot’s post-match presser:

I think these are always easier after winning, although he does mention frequently about being unlucky in various games. This might be true up to a point, but it does feel like grasping for excuses after a while.

Yes and no. We’ve been poor and we’ve been shafted. Can think of a few results off the top of my head where if the officiating had been better (or rather consistent either in strictness or leniency) we’d have won/drawn instead of lost/drawn. Then again we’ve also capitulated so stupidly so regularly this season that it feels like we invite the poor officiating onto us - we look like a poor team constantly making mistakes so refs see us as a poor team making mistakes which probably subconsciously affects the way they referee us.

That said, we’ve not lost in the past 4 and one of the problem players has been addressed. Things are going in the right direction; better I think to focus on that than the rough patch.

I haven’t read anything about it, the Newcastle stuff, yet. Or seen on the news so can not comment.
The latest ‘home secretary’ isn’t like the previous 2 so there might be some repercussions for the police over indiscriminate police violence. He’s a bit embarrassed atm over other things to do with the police.

This reminds of the music intro of that tv detective show Ironside😂

Just to mention, I am sure alot has said it, the subs totally took the game to a notch up last night. Bradley and Wirtz were very good. But ultimately last night, it was Jones and Dom who put in the best shifts throughout the game. In a way, the game last night was very controlled, not like recently when we collapsed easily. After the wrongly disallowed goal, i was half expecting us to collapse yet again but I think we did plough on and the subs did spark some more life into us.

Immense save from Ali just before halftime led to us winning. A much more positive performance and well deserved three points. It makes you wonder how we can beat Real Madrid, Arsenal and inter and can’t get a result against what are supposed to be weaker teams.

yeah, i think the subs just gave it that perfect little injection of urgency.

i was waiting for Wirtz to replace Mcalister from around the 55 minute mark and was getting a bit narky every minute it went past the sixty minute mark, as obviously players need time on the pitch to affect the game…i really wanted to see Wirtz on the park with Isak and Ekitike…that would be very interesting to me.

we got the win though, and the subs did thier bit, so Kudos to Slot.

Honestly if the supporters follow the plan which should have been communicated by the club there shouldn’t be any problem.
The dispositive for visiting fans is constraining and frustrating and patience is needed.
When you get over 3000 supporters there’s always going to be a number of dicks.
At the stadium there was one small incident at the velodrome involving 20 odd fans who caused some problems and one CRS policeman pepper sprayed them. There wasn’t any confrontation between opposing fans which was the objective, so the operation was a success.

The day before the match drunk Geordies caused problems in the town, seems to be around one bar in the town. This happens when fans arrive early and get drunk and fucking obnoxious.

I don’t think the police overstepped the mark at all here.
However I do think there’s a lot of shit stirring over these relatively tiny incidents. I have no idea why Newcastle United got involved, I can only presume one of the trouble makers has contacts at the club and petitioned them. If you make these sort of complaints then the shit stirrers will always take advantage and from what you said will win.
Just don’t fuck with the French police, they will hit you.

We rarely get Penalties that resemble the WWE so no.

Had Wirtz not gone down, he never gets that penalty. All these commentators are absolutely aware of that. It amounts to saying that in the PL defenders are allowed to hold attacker’s shirts as long as they don’t have the ball yet. Moronic.

The problem with trusting the riot police to look after a peaceful event is that they look at the visiting supporters as hooligans. When the final of the champions league was in Madrid the authorities look at them as customers who are going to spend shedloads of money and make it easier for them to enjoy themselves and the event.

The penalty was a bit soft but Bastoni had a good handful of his shirt and if you do that you invite a decision. Nice to see us get the benefit, after the disallowed goal going against us.

Noone is denying that how the French police events is a problem. However in this case there doesn’t seem much to it.
