Post match: Lask v Liverpool (UCL 14/10/26 5.45pm)

Woohoo, I knew that the boys would show a positive reaction! Absolutely chuffed for Araujo, Frimpong, Koumas and of course Barcola. They all deserved and needed a goal. Wirtz brilliant in the first half, Nyoni and Grav behind him, the full-backs… everything clicked, especially during the first half. Fluent football and quite spectacular moves. Onwards and upwards, brilliant!

Job done. We piled on the goals, Barcola got amongst the goals, Koumas had a good game and his industry was excellent. Wirtz was better.

I could keep going. A couple things to point out might be the level of the opposition was not the strongest, but then at that point you still have to do the job, and we did.

The other thing is the goals we conceded. Mitigating factors there would be the large cushion we had built up, and the defensive changes that led to us being leaky. Ideally that would not have happened, but I won’t dwell on it.

Job done. Well done you red men.

Stats in that first half you’d hope for in a game like this prior to the match…

But games aren’t won like that. I think the confidence is what matters.

Anyhow our next 5.45 game is the day I get back from leave so will probably stay late and watch that.

Won the first half lost the second half.
Very good performance up until out first subs. Should have been 0-7. I know shit happens but it’s happening to us too much.
I can not fault any of our players for upto the 60th minute what happened after that I haven’t a clue. We lost all our cohesion it seems.

Well we actually drew the second half

Haha! So we did but it didn’t feel like it and I’m sure LASK were happy .

There was one move where Nyoni zipped it through the lines into Wirtz, Wirtz then played it inside the full back for Barcola, and Barcola ran through and got the shot off.

Was almost exactly what I have been wanting to see us do. That Nyoni to Wirtz play and Wirtz making an incisive pass to a forward.

The changes should not have made such a difference as it was Frimpong who was at fault for two of their goals but the main change was that Araujo wasn’t there to mop up behind him.

We lost some solidity with Araujo coming off. He is making a strong case for us to complete the deal for him at the end of the season.

Ideally I want to see us keep a clean sheet there, but I can forgive switching off when you have built up a big cushion and already have the game won.

Prem games will be much harder than that, and I’d like to see us tighten up again.

Barcola and Wirtz grabbed their opportunity with a dominant performance. Cant ask for more. Hoping this transfers over to the next run of games until the reinforcements come back. i.e isak, gakpo and Szobo.

Im happiest mostly:
For Koumas ( truly deserved a goal for all his hardwork).

For Araujo (overlooked loanee is solidifying the back line. Please give him a contract)

United would’ve lost 2-1.

I’m in love with Lewis Koumas.

Missed the game due to it being in the middle of the night, but it sounds like fun.
There will be a few performances and scorelines like that in Iraola’s first season, it’s to be expected, but once he’s ironed out the wrinkles, we’re going to be a handful. Losing shape and concentration after substitutions is a typical sign of a team still finding it’s feet.
Was a much changed team against inferior opposition, but a tonic after Sunday.
