Job done.
Hope Jacquet is ok.

Overall decent performance aside from conceding three very soft goals.

The starting lineup had a feel for a strong Carabao quarter final against a solid and up for it Championship feel. Rafa Benitez would’ve been proud. First five minutes were the lineup finding its feet, and then took control with possession, and never looked back.

Rio and Barcola had fun down the wings, and Tsimi being tasked with all the corners. Opening goal from Araujo, heading in from a corner, after cueing himself up just a few minutes before from a similar position.

Rio dancing his way on the right, then a nice pass by Lewis on to Barcola for the second. Then we had a couple of good chances to further the lead. Lewis was slightly offside, and Grav hitting the post.

Barcola’s second, from a Wirtz assist, made the game safe in the first half. Then was really more about game management. Not the brightest start to the second, with LASK getting involved, but then a nice dug out cross by Tsimi onto Frimpong running in the back post. Nice header to make it four, followed by Koumas’ second offside finish.

Both CB changed, and a goal conceded in the first few seconds of the change. LASK with a smart finish to give the home side something to cheer about.

That probably gave an alarm call for us not take the result for granted and a match was still on. Sure enough, a few minutes later, nice work from Rio and Frimpong to assist for Barcola to get his hattrick. Frimpong’s goal was a bonus, but the assist was what we expected of him when we signed him.

Koumas finally got his goal third time of asking to make it six. Good play again from Frimpong. Then another sub, with Munoz coming on for the hattrick hero, and a few seconds later……….another goal conceded after a change with Frimpong the deepest player.

77th minute, another attack down our right………………with Frimpong deepest again. Cross came in, and a very good finish to make the scoreline start to flatter LASK. Then again, LASK seem to be a team that will concede and also score, as they showed against Celtic to qualify for the league stage.

On to Brenford at the weekend to get the Prem results back on track. Good confidence boost for Barcola and Wirtz was lively.

Enjoyable game helped with LASK being awful and us abandoning our defensive duties 2nd half. A lot of good performances, especially from the younger lads. 3 more points on the board, just waiting now to hear if Jacquet and Rio will both be ok for weekend.

Absolutely outstanding up to the point Ronald and Jacquet went off, attack was still good after that but I think VVD was having a coffee.

Very low bar to clear but it was still an enjoyable evening for about 60 minutes. We pretty much stopped playing after that and conceded 3 soft goals.

Pleased for Barcola, first time that he seemed to be on the same wavelength with the rest of the team. Having Wirtz and Tsimikas feeding and supporting him obviously didn’t hurt either. Wirtz was good, he could have got at least another assist. Very happy for Koumas, he really deserved his goal; needs to be more careful with the offside trap though. On the other hand, Frimpong unfortunately managed to undo all the good work he put going forward by being a liability at the back.

All in all, the first hour was exactly what Iraola would have wanted. The final 30 minutes weren’t good enough though and he should be asking questions. Onwards to the Brentford game, which will be a far more difficult proposition.

Probably one of the easier games this season, but I thought Iraola played this well: minutes for players who needed it, and rest for those with lots of games.

The conceded goals were a bit of a downside, but we had built a big lead before deep changes.

Confession time. I was coaching my son’s team so only put it on for last 30mins. Was my fault

Good in terms of confidence building in attack/the attackers.

Poor to concede three, but they came when the game was over. Needed better game management.

Must not forget that we were playing a team a good few levels below us. Brentford on the weekend are a much sterner challenge.

Is Koumas the new Dirk Kuyt ? Work rate is fantastic .

Or the new Milner, possibly?

Either way, every good team needs a grafter.

Enjoyable cohesive performance and then we brought some first team regulars on.
Joking aide.. Lask didn’t give up and we didn’t keep our foot down. Fair play to them.

Won’t draw too many conclusions as that team would probably finish bottom of the premier league, but was nice to score a plethora of goals and some of them were very tasty. Barcola up and running with some excellent finishes, Wirtz was much better and Rio looked a threat all game.

Defensively a bit of a shambles when the original pairing went off. Gomez all over the place and Frimpong showed what he is in a nutshell, potentially excellent going forward but a liability going the other way.

An entertaining game for the neutral. Wirtz had a good first half but went missing after an hour. Grav very similar.Top marks for Barcola for a well taken hat trick. Questions will be asked about three goals being conceded right after centre backs were subbed.
