Thing is even then we’ve been outperforming those around us. We’ve been constantly top of the form table for the last 10 games and within the top 3-4 of the last 5.
I think only Newcastle went ahead of us for one week in the last 10 games. We simply pushed ahead in December/January while others fell behind and Arsenal simply haven’t been able to keep the pace. Our “poor” period saw us extend our lead from 6 to 10/12.
It blows my mind. We’re about to win our second title in 35 years, something no one expected at the start of the season. We’ve dominated the league. And people are moaning about the playing style or missed chances. Who gives a flying fuck. It’s done!
I’m fucking buzzing and can’t wait to celebrate the trophy being lifted. These are glory days. Seems a lot of people have forgotten the years of being average.
The fact that everyone can see there’s room for improvement makes it even more exciting!
I almost made a massive mistake when i heard the date of the parade, i went to book the Premier inn near lime st Station for that weekend only for my mrs to come home on time to stop me as we are in Bruges for a week then.
As a spectacle the game was dire, but even at our “worst” we were still creating plenty of chances. Not just pot shots, but clear, high-quality chances. What was it? 5 times off the wordwork before finally scoring? Several really good stops by the goalie and 3 or 4 really good chances where we failed to even hit the target (fucking Darwin).
In the past when we’ve found ourselves in this situation we as fans, and often Klopp himself, got frustrated at a tendency to rush - to play the ball forward too quickly, to pump it into the box aimlessly too often. Yesterday we successfully rejected that impulse and continued to create chances right up until the point one was finally forced home. I think that patience and the creeping anxiety made the performance feel worse than it was, whereas a 4 or 5 goal win would not have been unreasonable for the chances created.
I think this is not just who we are now as a side, but it is where Klopp spent a couple of years trying to get us closer to as well.
For about 6 weeks they have constantly been asked questions about winning the title from people who know the player has to deny thinking that far ahead, but know the question has to be asked anyway because EVERYONE is thinking it.
In a long race the second to last lap is physically and emotionally the longest and hardest. You are tired but you know the adrenaline will carry you through the last lap. You just need to keep it together to get to the point where you hear the bell and not try to fuel yourself that way too soon for risk of inexplicably burning out. We have been in that phase for months, exacerbated by the exit from Europe. This Spurs game is now the last lap.
