In the words of Pink Floyd, I’m comfortably numb.
And I am Numbly comfortable
Wijnaldum’s missing in action again. He’s been a good player over the years for us and an important one as well but he’s nowhere near world class the way people on here are making him out to be. He’s played a blinder with his contract situation and PR though, I’ll give him that.
Bit of a rebuild job needed here
Not sure I’d use the word rebuild, more a refresh.
I’m honestly not even sure we need more than 1 or 2 players, depending on whether or not Gini leaves.
What we do need is Hendo and Fab back in that midfield as soon as fucking possible. Fab probably won’t be this year, but Hendo should be next week!
I’ll also keep saying it until the cows come home…
City were shite last year after two massive seasons, and look how they have bounced back.
I used to work in nightclubs…what goes up must come down…trust me.
If we’re having the same convos in Dec 2021, I’ll be worried. Until then…we’ve got a CL to win.
And finally, gestalt innit?
A Doc told me many years ago that there was no point in getting stressed out about things. I have no control over . I have to keep reminding myself of this. I have said many times how I think over doing this faffing about in our own defensive third . I like to see a team play out from the back but it is not always sensible to do so. When the opposition are closing down all your easy options you need to go beyond them . O.K. very often an opposing defender will win the ball in th air but by then our defence has been able to push up and try to win the second ball. I think we are frightened to push up because we are not the quickest at the back but Ali has been very effective as a sweeper keeper so that is not an excuse to bin this option. Fact is we need to vary our actions so the opposition has to think twice. We are to predictable. There are of course other problems apart from a number of players seeming to be off form and short of confidence. There are a few tweaks I would like to see but if Jurgen is not of the same opinion they will not happen. I think Jurgen needs to look for a way to change what we do without completely disrupting the team. They say a change is as good as a rest so let´s try to change something. Maybe one or two new CB´s will freshen things up, We can but hope. Leicester up next and 6 days to get it together. Onward and upward.
BTW it wasn’t a dig at Gini, although he has been poor the last 2 matches, it was to show peoples misconceptions in regards to Thiago. They just seem to see that 1 tackle that he does to get booked, but hey jo at least he gets stuck in.
And no 4 wasn’t aware of Sterling sneaking in behind him.
I find it quite amazing that some fans have managed to convince themselves that football is happening on a different planet, where the sport hasn’t had the guts ripped out of it by the first global pandemic in 100 years.
So bent officiating was why we lost yesterday? I’d love to see the evidence of this.
Yes we’ve had some poor decisions against us but as the single reason for this form? I just dont see it. Even if it was the reason, how weak mentally do you need to be to let it affect you so badly. If you thought the game was bent against you, would you stick your back leg out when Sterling has waltzed past you in the box? You’d be shit scared of trying anything, Fabinho clearly left his leg out… But that doesnt fit your narrative does it.
In a way its nice that people are so willing to not blame Klopp and the players they will look elsewhere for blame.
I however don’t think it’s the refs which are the root cause of us creating zero chances, we had 1 shot on goal all 2nd half… When chasing the game at Anfield. Nothing to do with Oliver, thats to do with Klopp making poor substitutes, refusing to change our structure and Alisson losing the plot.
I know people said wait till next season before talking about the Dortmund 2.0 happening here, but I think there is a small talking point emerging… It’s very similar, 2-3 years of utter draining intensity, followed by losing key players (transfers there, injuries here etc.) Then form of the team dropping off a cliff. Combined with baffling team selections, even more baffling substitutions, constantly being irritable, looking miserable etc. It does look similar.
McNumpty taking the opportunity to drive the knife in, a full piece on our demise.
To think, a thugging by the Bitters embryonically triggered this loss of our ‘air of invincibility’.
Nothing wrong with Big Mickey O yesterday, but I think @jaffod’s point is that more broadly the officiating has drained the lads this year. I think that’s a fair observation.
I don’t go as far as the idea that there is a vast refereeing conspiracy designed to undermine Liverpool, but it’s become quite clear that rules and standards are not being applied fairly and equitably.
You throw that alongside the lack of fans, the horrific injuries, the bloody bad luck we’re dealing with, and the drop off from the intensity of going at near perfection for two years, and now wonder the lads look off. They are human beings.
We’re mentally and physically done.
I don’t see us getting top 4 at this stage but that can change but this team is incapable of going on any sort of run. It’s win 2 lose 2, draw2 etc.
This team won the league by twenty points last year. There is no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
City dropped off last year. They regrouped, added a couple of smart purchases and off they go again.
This season is becoming a bit of a nightmare, but reaching for the panic button is hugely premature
A lot of people ragging on Klopp for not playing Kabak, as if this is a fucking game of FIFA, and you can throw lads in after two training sessions with their new team mates. Against City.
Bloody hell.
Here is a comparison. Three years ago, we signed Virgil Van Dijk. After throwing him in for an FA Cup game against Everton (a game Klopp clearly couldn’t give a fuck about), and despite him scoring in that, he had to wait to make his league debut, missing the next fixture while he bedded in. That fixture? Man City at home.
If he doesn’t start against Leicester, with a week to get to know the system, then I’ll be scratching my head. But against City, never going to happen.
No I do understand that, and I do appreciate the point of view.
As you say it’s the perfect storm of so many things going against us, which individually dont amount to much but as a collective has destroyed the team.
I guess my main frustrations are two fold.
Plan B - We don’t appear to have anything, surely if Klopp tries something new it could re-energise the team? Isn’t it just as de-motivating to just repeat the same thing over and over? I can’t imagine Salah enjoys being a target man… We have been woefully ineffective up front for months, yet bar the 442 against West Ham which worked we’ve seen 433 over and over.
Mentality Monsters - If you base your entire mentality on such statements, you should have more in the tank than we are seeing. Adversity should bind you against everyone else. I read we’ve had 2 big heart to heart meetings this season, and neither have had affect. Which worries me, they aren’t even playing for eachother any more (case point after Alisson’s mistake we hospital pass him straight away after).
So, if you criticise a player, you’re ‘a half baked fan’. I take it that’s a euphemism for ‘not a real fan’ and therefore not qualified to make such criticisms. Well, Alisson is ‘copping’ it from me and I certainly wouldn’t class myself as a ‘half baked’ fan. I won’t bore you with my CV, as a Liverpool fan since 1960. (Yes, I’m getting on a bit).
What Allison did, yesterday, I can forgive once, but he did the same thing again a few minutes later. That was just embarrassing. In fact, during the first half, he was very nearly caught in possession and just about managed put the ball out for a throw in. I’m afraid he had a mare of a game yesterday, along with several other players.
So, if criticising a players performance makes me a ‘half baked fan’, so be it.
@jaffod said he didnt see the game, didnt say the game was lost because of bent officiating…but that doesn’t stop the response to which you replied…its the usual taking comments out of context by some members, though unsure why.
@Mascot, your view re the uneven nature of decisions is correct. And I agree, (once more with feeling) that this concocted conspiracy does not exist. There are no meetings behind closed doors etc, and that appears to be the go to argument by some posters who disagree with the level of poor decisions suffered by the club.
But I think its reasonable to acknowledge that a certain bias exists.
But not yesterday. Yesterday we were just beaten… Its evident now that the injuries have destroyed our season.
Combined with a dip (massive) in form.
Combined with a raft of inexplicable decisions over the course of the season.
Combined with the lack of supporters.
Combined with the challenge of back to back titles, possibly the hardest feat to achieve.
Its a tough time.
