Post Match: Liverpool v Arsenal (ELC 13/1/22 7.45pm)

There’s a recurring theme

Some have looked like they can’t be arsed and nobody wants to miss a sitter but ffs, that’s why they’re paid what they get paid. I’d expect a professional footballer to hit the round object that they practice and play with almost every day of their lives into an empty net from 12 yards. That’s not an unreasonable expectation.

I’m genuinely wondering if it’s just fatigue, considering our midfield was decimated earlier this season…

Very disjointed, lack of sharpness, wasteful. That’s how I would describe this game. Taki had it on the plate and he balloons it. Even if Taki scored, It was still overall a very poor game from the lads.
I honestly feel we need some fresh idea and new blood in the center mid position. We don’t have any threat in our midfield that would scare any team. Without Mo, and maybe Mane, we lack that explosiveness to unlock defense. We need someone that can take the game to the opponent in central mid.
The back 4 was below standard today too, so many wayward passes and miskicks. VVD made a couple of positioning errors that could’ve cost us the game.
I don’t know if it’s covid or Arsenal parking the bus, but the game was really slow and the lads lack Intensity to take the game to the gunners.

Must improve for the weekend or else might as well award City with the title now.

Worth considering that we have Thiago out (again) and Keita gone. We are down as many central mids as we are forwards, so not surprising a match that needed some quality from both would test us.

Unfortunately, I think what we truly need is a Thiago circa 2017, not Thiago 2022

Except that I don’t recall such an event in this match.

Minamino wasn’t even 12 yards away.

Well, I disagree we create nothing but with a midfield like that it is no surprise, that midfield is built not to lose, not to win.

I guess we’d all have scored that one. Fair point though, he should have done better, but I wouldn’t call it a sitter.

Perhaps, but he did miss the net with the round object from less than 12 yards out.

The title was gone weeks ago, the result on Sunday will not change that. We have to concentrate on the cups for the prize we can win this year.

The elephant in the room is that we are competing against Russia and Abu Dhabi. We don’t have the resources to create a squad that equates to two top premier teams.

Minamino is not good enough for Liverpool, he proves that time after time, nice bloke but not good enough and while we are at it can somebody please tell Jones that he does not have to touch the ball at least 3 times before he decides to play it? Thank you.

Top professionals have missed from much closer!

Me thinks Salah would have struggled to score tonight.

I actually think before Elliott got hurt, he was that X-factor in midfield that lifted the team. I hope he can regain the same kinda form when he returns.
And yes we need the 2017 Thiago lol

Great looking midfield except for the consistently injured. Keita, Thiago and Ox. Other than that looks great.

I thought we played Arsenal.

Most likely the title is done and dusted, but I always think if you can keep it close, you’re one or two games away from getting back into the race. The one being chase in the title race always have more pressure, so you never know until it’s over.

We were. I was just making a broader point about the make up of the English league. I realise that this might have confused you. Apologies.
