I think he deliberately kicked it and in doing so stopped it going to Gakpo in the first place.He was in control of what he was doing,but not every pass comes off,and this was 1 that didn’t.You can be sure we will see more of these given than not.

The Mane one was probably close to the Mings challenge (launched into the challenge from a fair distance with his studs up) than the Jota one though. Where Mane got a little unlucky was how dangerous Ederson’s action was

As mentioned a few posts up, it was an interpretation we did have a little while back because fans had been complaining about inconsistency in application of a more nuanced rule (how is that deliberate and not this?). So the IFAB used a more blanket interpretation - if it touches a defender the attacker is onside, and everyone hated it because it produced absurd outcomes with goals being scored that everyone agreed felt unfair.
Was the referee today the 3rd official that Jurgen got up and personal with which resulted in his ban? It looked like it was him from memory, anyway after today top 4 seems to be over, which is what we must have all thought was dead a few months ago, as they say it is the hope that kills you, i just want to wrap this season up and move on

I did too he was very lucky that his chest did not cave in after that horrendous tackle from that minger Klopp was sarcastically saying that he had the logo adidas imprinted on his chest had a liverpool player done that he would have been sent off and banned for a few games for dangerous play and to add insult to injury his goal was disallowed for some flimsy reason

Seems that the eye test wasn’t too far off!
70% success rate for tackles is very average. So he has 0.6 successful tackles per game which means he needs about 180 minutes to get in a successful tackle. No wonder our right side is always overrun.
The same goes for interception as well.
Is it hard for a midfielder to just do one successful interception and one successful tackle per game consistently???
Just finished watching MotD and the PL have found another ass of a referee.

Just saw the offside goal, that’s a nonsense. The idea that the defender did not intentionally play the ball is hilarious. Oh well.

After JK’s fine n ban…they have to turn the screw just a little bit more, so they had to find a way of making LFC lose or draw, and they did…and seeing the pictures of Gakpo’s chest, how is that not a red, the goal by Gakpo…it came off a Villa player, so how is it offside…snidey work by the officials…all because they didn’t get a bigger ban for JK and he asked where the money is going…

The term to use is ‘deliberately played’ and according to the criteria in the rules for what is deliberate play, the threshold wasn’t achieved.
I read somewhere that the video ref was that same official

Which I think is a nonsense, he clearly deliberately played the ball. The fact his shit touch gave it straight to us, instead of clearing it which he tried to do, shouldn’t have a bearing on the decision.

According to IFAB
The following criteria should be used, as appropriate, as indicators that a player was in control of the ball and, as a result, ‘deliberately played’ the ball:
- The ball travelled from distance and the player had a clear view of it
- The ball was not moving quickly
- The direction of the ball was not unexpected
- The player had time to coordinate their body movement, i.e. it was not a case of instinctive stretching or jumping, or a movement that achieved limited contact/control
- A ball moving on the ground is easier to play than a ball in the air
