Post match: Liverpool v Aston Villa (EPL 9/11/24 8pm)

Every time we get one or all the dodgy officials I know it will hurt them to give us the steam of their piss!

There is a cream you can get on prescription that can help with that.

Just want to give a shoutout to Darwin Nunez. He scored a good goal. None of our other strikers have the pace to do that.

The supposed sitter he missed where he put it over the bar saw the ball bobble up on him. They pointed that out on the coverage over here. It happens.

The header wasn’t an easy chance either.

To my mind he was getting fouled all game long by their big grocks at the back. He had a clear penalty early on but Coote wasn’t having it. He works tirelessly for the team and can do things our other strikers cannot do. He scored a goal, helped us get the win, and is a valuable member of the squad.

Personally I would continue with him getting the nod as a starter. My feeling is when Jota is fit he is the better option from the bench, as he is a clever player and can get into the swing of it quickly. Nunez has the physicality to be giving the opposition a tough day from the kick off.

I do like that Slot has unearthed another central option for us in Diaz. I’m not saying he will see a lot of action there, but he has pace, and he does know where the net is. We are going well and we have options.

If Salah had missed the 2nd one on one like Nunez the forum would have been in meltdown but we make excuses far too much fir Nunez.

Seriously? At home? I was expecting a win and a clean sheet.

I see a gifted player in Nunez, and I am surprised to see good reds regurgitate the sort of unfair talking points we see in the wider footballing fraternity. Can’t finish, etc.

Nunez is a very good player indeed. Yes, he might be a bit more composed in his finishing, but I don’t like to highlight what players don’t do. It’s better to see what they do, and celebrate it. Nunez has been in the side and we have been on a heck of a run. He scores, he occupies defenders, he gives an outlet, and he works his socks off for the team. He is faster and more athletic than anyone else we have up front, and opposing teams simply cannot settle when he is on the pitch.

There’s no way I will slag him off, and I’m delighted he is ours.

Yes, Aston Vila are no pushovers and with Unai Emery at the helm, he is a good manager. He got the better of us in the Europa league.

Missed the point spectacularly.

You have to look at his stats in regards to XG, he just isn’t good enough in front of goal, I don’t think there is a fan that doesn’t want him to do well as you cant fault his effort, however, in the biggest of games against the best opposition, chances are few and being clinical is a must.

I don’t think so. Salah misses loads. His athletic gifts are now past peak. He doesn’t always pass to a teammate as he should. For Darwin’s goal yesterday, Salah failed to get the pass off to him before he was fouled, for example. And for every goal Salah scores he takes at least 2-3 crappy weak shots from good positions. It can be infuriating to watch him cut back on his left and then chip a tame shot into the goalie’s midriff.

And yet we back Salah, and rightly so, because he is a top player. He has been phenomenal for us. And even this season, when he is past peak and we wonder what sort of contract extension he might or might not be offered, he has 10 goals and 10 assists.

It could have been more if want to give Salah the sort of scrutiny you are happy to give to Nunez. So many great opportunities go through Salah. But at that point I don’t get it. I don’t feel the need to talk down one of our own players by comparing him to one of the best we’ve seen.

I know what Nunez is. He can do lots of things Salah just cannot do. And vice versa.

So I choose to celebrate what we have, rather than go for the sort of narrative that the wider footballing fraternity goes for when sticking the boot in on Darwin Nunez.

Why would Salah pass before he is fouled he is racing clear centrally and thereforeno need to pass at that moment, yes Mo does it weak shots but a lot of the time they are classed as low XG, whereas Darwin misses a lot of high XG chances.

BTW I mentioned in game about the bobble on Nunez’s chance and I am regularly critical of Mo, but Mo is still far more clinical that Darwin.

They’ve hit a really bad patch of form, especially with home draw to Utd, away loss to Spurs (who lost to Ipswich at home today) and their first loss in the CL against weak Belgian opposition against whom they couldn’t score. So, Emery or not, I was pretty confident. We’re operating at a pretty decent level as a team right now.

Yes, of course Mo is more clinical. Look at the stats! I just don’t like to see reds having a pop at our own. It seems shitty to me, and no better than the agenda driven mantra of the wider footballing fraternity that diminishes what Nunez offers.

I feel the need to defend Darwin Nunez, as too many Liverpool fans - to my mind - are not able to see the smashing player we have on our books, but rather want to talk him down and compare him unfavorably to one of the best we’ve seen since the Prem began.

I’m with the Kop and you.

Nunez, Nunez, Nunez!

The kid gives it his all. Reasonable criticism is part of the sport, of course, but the constant drumbeat haranguing him is over the top.

Hope he wins us some trophies.
