Yes, that’s expected, and also it means good times ahead.
Bradley is a back up option who has suffered with injuries. Consistency will come.
Wirtz played very well today, should have had multiple assists but for profligate finishing.
That was just typical Liverpool.
On a serious note, I thought that was a superb game. Lots of great football from both sides. Lovely patterns to watch. Wirtz’s best game for us so far. Gravenberch bloody excellent. Bright debut for Isak. Salah’s goal was obscenely good.
Unlike previous weeks when we we let a two-goal lead slip, I actually thought we didn’t switch off too often–we were just undone by bad luck and good play. (Okay, maybe switched off a tad for the first)
Only downside is that the balance is still perhaps not quite right in defence, because Atleti were finding a fair bit of space down our flanks in that second half.
Delighted at the win, and you can’t beat a late winner.
But I am concerned about the team mentality at 2-0. It’s been a thing now for about six months. Might be a complacency issue, but we just offer so much encouragement at two up and invite teams back into the game.
The chance where he could have volleyed it but played it to Hugo illustrated it that confidence is low.
Ok I get it, must be this season’s challenge. Actually gutted we scored so early against Arsenal.
We did lose a bit when we took Frimpong and got Bradley on. Maybe getting Gomez in would have been a better idea in hindsight.
She will need treatment for that burn.
3 points is all that matters… but I’m not sure how many more of these late winners I can take.
I thought Salah looked far sharper than late. You can see that the team still isn’t entirely gelling, but there are definite improvements.
The refereeing was very hit and miss, but why Simeone didn’t get booked earlier, I don’t know. Every time the camera showed him, he was on the pitch. Not just out of his area, but on the actual field of play.
Ekitike had atleast two great chances to score. And it was damn lucky that his miss didn’t cost us from the subsequent Atletico play.
Remember when you were a kid and you’d ask a mate to hold you back so you didn’t look like you’d lost your head getting into a fight you couldn’t win.
Anyway, here’s Simeone:
I would be worried if we weren’t creating chances and then fluking it towards the end. That would have meant this won’t be sustainable.
We aren’t always going to leave it this late. The fact that we are still integrating new players, adapting to all the tweaks and still digging in to get the wins can only be a positive sign of things to come. I am pretty relaxed. We are mentality monsters and showing what champions are made of.
Bro it’s been a thing for years now.
I thought we played really well for 60 mins but just generally were poor in that last 30. Every time we got it we just gave it back to them and not even their goalie or defenders.
Thought Wirtz had a really good game if I’m honest.
I think the odd fluke of a second goal not withstanding , we were really good in the second half too. Atletico had their phases but we were clearly the better team.
There were atleast 3-4 clear cut chances there that we should have scored of.
1 for Salah hitting the post. 2 for Ekitike. Konate got some headers just wide too.
Same here. Not sure how the effort he’s putting, getting almost everything right is not clearly evident. I don’t expect everything to click for him in a new league, under a new manager and with new teammates in 1 month. It’ll take time but it’s so obvious why he’s so good and going to be a huge success here. It’s only a matter of time the G/A would start coming in.
Wirtz wasn’t shocking but i wouldn’t go as far as really good. If its Feb and he played like that would we say it was really good.
I think he played a really good game. Won the ball a fair number of times higher up the pitch too.
Set it on a plate for others as well. Not his fault they didn’t finish.
If you are classing the chance Hugo skied he should have taken it himself he would have done in Germany.
