Post match: Liverpool v Atletico Madrid (UCL 9/9/26 8pm

First of all, well done everyone and congrats to Andoni for his first ever win in the Champions league.

Isak’s pressing has to improve…I’ve watched Wirtz run past him to press the CBs and then run back into the midfield bloc😭

So glad that we’ve got Araujo

Hopefully Bradley is OK

I have more issues with his weakness on his long passing than his weakness on the ball, he seems to underhit his long passes time after time.

So I would have him practising switching play to the full backs who then have to receive the ball to practice their crossing, see one drill to improve 3 players, simple really :face_blowing_a_kiss::face_with_peeking_eye::money_mouth_face:

Iraola said the Barcola sub was down to cramp :ok_hand:

Loved that interview from Andoni. Taking responsibility for getting the set up wrong at the start. Slot would never have done that. More importantly he fixed it!

Also interesting that Stevie on comms had no idea what was wrong at the start

What did he say?

Overall, a good night. Lots of very positive performances and great to get a result against these shithousing cunts. Especially loving the two new defensive additions. Jacquet looks worth every penny already and will seem a bargain by the end of the season. Araujo plays with his heart on his sleeve and is a silky footballer to boot; more of the same from him and we’d be daft not to activate his clause.

Same issue for the goal as the majority of ours conceded, but if we can see it I’m sure they can too. Time on the training pitch will sort that out.

Was asked a couple of times what was wrong/how to improve and took responsibility both times. Basically he didn’t think Atletico would set up with 5 at the back

We need to keep @Quicksand wrapped in cotton wool for the next few months..!

I like how he talks in general. Very honest and open.

Great win and I’d say we saw the first glimpses of what to expect from us in the future. The press was outstanding at times, I think Wirtz won the ball like 5 times in their half.

Wirtz had an amazing game, created a few and with better finishing could have had 2 assists. Off the ball he was even better. Araujo was very good, very solid defensively and that one moment after a corner where he ran all the way to press their keeper reminded me of Robbo. Jacquet had a grear game as well.

All in all many very good individual performances and the best team performance so far.

They all had good games individually for the mostpart so not slating their performances, but while they played well as individuals, I don´t think the midfield quite flowed properly or fit together as a unit of three players.

Neither defensively nor offensively.

I think it´s the biggest challenge facing Iraola, especially as the attack and defence look a lot more settled. Not sure what the solution is - it´s a tough one. Part of me suspects it will require Dom or Wirtz to be out the team, which seems counter-intuitive.

I thought Dom and Wirtz were both great. I get what you mean about the combination though. Hopeful that Andoni can figure it out

Yeah as individuals they all did well but it was very disjointed. I don´t think any of the 3 complements the others.

Or at least they have no chemistry or understanding with each other. You don´t see much of them passing to each other and how they work off the ball is a bit individual.

If we can get that cohesion in there from them I think we will go up several levels as a team this season.

Andoni saying Barcola was just cramping. That’s a good sign, but I’ll believe that when he returns to training.

That was a fun game, I enjoyed that. Just a Barcola goal away from a perfect start to the campaign. Hopefully it was just cramp and not an injury.

How about that assist from Araujo! Brilliant.

Kerkez is just wild, isn’t he.

Good times.
