So proud of the boys. A great night, well done. ![]()
Watching Liverpool is an escape for me. Last season every game felt hard to watch. I just want to see attacking football, energy and our players giving their all. I saw that tonight. Yes, there are lots of areas for improvement but the fight is back ![]()
@ZinedineBiscan ban
Very good result at this stage in our season. They´re not a great side but a solid one and tough to beat and we got the result. Great stuff.
Mac had a good game, Wirtz was a bit better. A few areas to pick at with Jacquet but he has shown he can be relied on. Love how he passes into our midfield at speed even if they have players near them. That´s what should be done. Disappointed to not see Nyoni again. Don´t think Grav adds much. Araujo solid again and good spirit to win it back for the goal.
With this squad and where we are in the rebuild under Iraola, it was a very good win. Very pleased.
Good:
Macca MOTM. JJ and Araujo were excellent in defense.
Isak is back. His involvement and energy and passion and aggression were wonderful to see. His confidence has returned and opponents should be worried.
Wirtz was very involved all over the pitch. Should have had at least a goal and assist.
Fuck Atleti and their collection of trolls.

Bad:
Kerkez was shambolic in the first 30-35 minutes - to the point that I would have hooked him. So poor.
Rio improved as the match continued, but I don’t want to see a Kerkez-Rio wing on the regular anytime soon.
Hopefully Barcola isn’t seriously injured. Would hate to see him have to miss a few weeks now.
Grav was poor and silly and irresponsible when he came on. Really needs to stop playing like it’s EAFC. Not every pass needs to be a highlight-level flick.

Congrats to Andoni on his first UCL win as our head coach. Hopefully the first of many.
Watching Wirtz…

Aroohoo was great. I hope we keep him. Wirtz played really well and was everywhere. Had to give Macca a vote for the strike, but a good solid European performance against a tricky opponent. This team are definitely more fun to watch, even at 5am.
Fingers crossed for Brad. He looks classy, shame about his miss, it would have been a great introduction.
In the position we were, thats a very good performance against and obstinate and experienced opposition. Macca was great, good to see him back to form, but Araujo, got my MOM, an authoritative performance. Despite that, I dont remember Grav doing anything right when came on, He concerns me. Wirtz does seem to be improving, but can someone please show him where the laces are.
A few posts more and we can discuss that embarrassing first goal and the lack of having a competent 6 at the club.
Back to being capable of a clean sheet, back to being capable of coming from behind, back to being better at a press, back to being much faster on a break.
It’s obviously early doors but you can see improvements.
Wirtz best performance so far for us.
Macca looked like the Macca of the title winning season.
Szobo worked so hard.
Jaquet really sold.
Aruajo really solid.
Hope the Barcola niggle wasn’t serious and just precaution getting him off straight away.
Kerkez does have good moments in him. He won the ball back for the goal and probably had a word at him during half time to shape up so was better in the 2nd half. He’s got to start games with better composure.
There’s an obvious drop off with our subs. They did what they needed to do but there may be moments in the season it won’t be quite good enough to see results out or get winners.
Confidence is building.
Great game by all. So much more enjoyable to watch this season. Araujo outstanding, Janquet looked so assured. Macca back to his best, Wirtz and Dom so hard working. Then Rio and Bradley very exciting. Isak looking fit and confident.
Good result and performance.
JJ was the one for me, some great awareness in our area to snuff out chances.
For me it is those little things that cost us goal after goal last season so it is absolutely massive and so refreshing to have defender not ball watching but reading the stuation and player movement to stop a potetial chance.
As said in the pre match we look so hard to score against in our defensive shape and we are creating a lot as well both on the break with good movement and interplay between the players.
Great result and a great first Champions League win for Iraola. ![]()

First half I thought the press was there but it wasn’t quite in cohesion. Second half though, it just seemed to click. You could really see what Iraola is trying to build. It’s still a work in progress and everyone is learning what he wants, but you can see it coming together already and I honestly think we’re only going to get better and better.
Mac Allister looked back to his best. Szoboszlai was amazing. Wirtz showed some lovely little touches and moments of quality, and even though Isak wasn’t really in the game, his pressing and work off the ball was noticeable.
And Araujo at right-back, I love him already!
Looks solid defensively, gets forward, and that assist was bloody Maradona-esque! The little backheel/flick and then the run afterwards… brilliant. There was even a moment in the first half where he was pressing all the way up to their goalkeeper. Exactly the sort of commitment you want to see. We’ve got to buy him!
The biggest positive for me though is that everyone seems to be buying into Iraola’s football. The pressing, the intensity and the aggression are coming back, and it’s exciting watching Liverpool play like this again.
Great first Champions League night for Iraola. Still plenty to improve, but you can see where this is going.
Up the Reds! ![]()
Iraola first win in CL.
Koumas european debut.
A good overall performance and most importantly a win. Mac looks like his old self.
Simeone waving imaginery cards all night and no booking and his son doing it in front of the ref in the second half, the ref was really poor in first 45 but bettet 2nd.
Good news Barcola was only cramp.
Edit; Araujo was fantastic.
