Wasn’t terrible. Wasn’t that great against a bad opponent either. Sure, we had chances.
I’m just kind of numb watching us play atm. I get that there are unbalances in the squad, but still think there’s more than enough quality on the pitch to be better.
He’s being sarcastic and it’s just annoying at this point.
32 shots on goal, 11 on target, 73% possession. Sorry but this one isn’t on Slot. We should have won by 3 or 4 goals. Not that I’m sticking up for Slot, I’m 50/50.
Not good enough. A clean sheet would have won it but we just can not help gifting the opposition the ball and allowing them to score.
I’m leaving it to that as some of what I saw today was just complacent.
First time since 2002 that we’ve failed to beat any of the promoted sides at Anfield. No league wins in 2026.
Yet, it was a promising performance, the first half anyway. Good flow, intensity and some nice combinations. At some point though, you have to take your chances, we failed to do so and got punished in the second half after a typical 10-minute period of lethargy and complacency. We had a couple of big chances afterwards, but we visibly run out of ideas and steam towards the end.
Not sure where we go from this. It was in many ways a positive game, but the result is so disheartening that it’s difficult to tell how much it will affect us.
Arsenal circa 2011
This is frustrating.
Even VvD was so frustrated with the slow buildup (I think it was in the 1st half as well). I don’t remember if it was Konate or Gravenberch, they slowed the forward movement at one of few times, while VvD kept urging them to go forward. In the end, the ball passed sideways/backward and VvD just put both hands on his head in utter disbelieve.
Fucking humiliating. I have little else to add.
Wirtz is our best player.
Fourth draw in a row. 4 points from 12. We’re in fourth, but we really should’ve had some daylight. As it is, there are plenty of teams just a few points behind.
Had plenty of chances to win the game, and then let it slip away in a sloppy 5 minute minute spell. Story of the season.
We carved out plenty of chances, but some of the shots were wayward. A bit more composure in front of goal was needed.
We are playing better since those run of defeats, but need to be more clinical. Hopefully with Mo coming back, that will inject some of that back into our game.
Hugo was lively up front, with good running from wider positions. I just wish sometimes he would gamble and make a run off the shoulder when our full backs have the ball wide. A bit of striker instinct to his game will pick up more of the scrappy type goals.
Dom hitting the crossbar from the pen set the scene. Wirtz goal bought hope, but that little spell Burnley had we needed to use our nous. We’ve done that VVD to Ali to long ball and then the CB not running out quick making the ball come straight back. It’s happened in several games now. Need to get back to the drawing board on that one. The equalizer was scored just a little time after that.
When a team aren’t looking to attack, how can you move it forward quickly or do people just want us to hoof it and lose the ball anyway.
Most if this move the ball forward quicker is bullshit, you can only do it if they opposition has committed numbers, the only area we need improvement is sometimes switching play quicker or picking out the forward passes into feet or space, which is limited.
As I put in the pre match, excellent 1st half, didn’t get the goals we deserved through profligacy.
2nd half was very much cut and paste for most of this season, we just go into our shell and look to consolidate with slow ineffectual play and passing, their goal and other best opportunity came from poor passes from our CB’s to our FB’s.
Wirtz was standout, 1st half he ran the show, 2nd half we don’t get the ball to him, why? Everyone can see that he is our conductor, pass and move off him.
team is tired by 55-65 minutes and we dont even run as much as klopp teams…
Wirtz was ok, he wasn’t really influential on the final result because we play at this snails pace. Ekiteke had moments but he needs space. Every opportunity was blocked or skyed. What’s not to understand. It’s how they are being asked to play. If we move our team to Holland we might have a chance of winning something.
and this is what i have said repeatedly, the style of play does not suit the young players we have signed…
But he was part of the complacency at the beginning of the 2nd half!
five wins in the last 17 league games
Dunno who you point the finger at when you’ve done more than enough to comfortably win the game. Maybe in isolation you’d say it was unlucky but in this season you’ve got to say it’s just not good enough all round.
Players, manager, coaches. No one should be under any illusion that this is just unlucky.
Unbelievable. Defending champions…
No fucking idea how we turn 3 points to 1 point
Positives :
- Wirtz is phenomenal. His touches are exquisite. His goal is very very good.
- Hugo looks very sharp but was let down by his static team-mates.
- First half was good. Frimpong was dangerous. Kerkez was doing his best impression of a young Robbo!
Bad :
- The movement in the final 3rd is pretty appalling. Our goal is the product of Hugo not giving up, jones sorting his feet out and Wirtz smashing it hard and true. There was 2 incidents that stood out. One was Szobo leading the counter and only to find nobody in support bar for Frimpong far out wide. The other was Frimpong trying to take on two defenders and absolutely no one came to back him up despite we having just 3 static men in the box back then…
- The fitness of the team is really poor. Gassed out by the second half of nearly every match.
- Subs were too late and was incorrect. By the 60th Minute, a lot of our players were already blowing their asses out. Gravenberch for Macca is one of the most baffling subs when you see Jones blowing his arse out. Jones is only taken out of his misery at the 87th minute…wtf…
- Set-pieces continues to haunt us. We offered nothing in our corners and free-kicks. Our penalties looks unpracticed. The only improvement is that we are not conceding goals from corner kicks due to us flooding our own box.
- Gakpo had a mixed game. Did win us a penalty which was on the softer side but could be given. Other than that, he had only one memorable shot that got saved And that’s it.
- Our OOP game is really bad in transitions. Burnley wasn’t by any way a pacy team but yet, they could find space in our midfield so effortlessly in the second half where our midfielders disappeared.
- Manure winning citeh closing the gap to us by 1 point in the race for top 4. Only 3 points separates 8th and 4th. A few more draws, we might not even get top 4…Draws are literally the worse result you can get. If you draw 5 games, you get 5 points. If you win 2 and lose 3 in the same 5 gameweeks, you get 6 points which is better than drawing all 5. Slot’s retreat to a more defensive outlook is gonna get him a lot of draws and ultimately the sack.
I do think we have had very little luck, but then again we just aren’t ruthless enough in front of goal and we are seeing some great blocks/saves and then concede some worldies or the oppositions 1st chance.
Today we could have and should have won handsomely, but we don’t take our opportunities and have a weak mentality defensively and then cough up some easy chances.
