Do not look to hope, it has forsaken LFC threads…
Jason McAteer was right in the podcast. He said that we are a nice team to play against, tippy-tappying about. A team with proper shape, they would see Liverpool does not provide any threat, as LFC just played in front of the whole opponents, back or sideways… Need to be horrible for the opponents, like make them running back towards their own goal, need a little bit anger with tackles, and bit of nastiness, like Jota (blessed his soul) with the little elbows.
I agree with a lot of this and I have commented previously where we make 3 passes, mainly along the back line when the destination pass could be done in one pass and would force the opposition to move faster and work harder to cover to keep their shape.
The gist of what I say is that you should always look for the forward pass but not always make it, I have seen us play a few longer passes to Hugo where it’s 4 v 1 and no supporting players near him and he or others lose possession, you have to also read the situation.
Yes Szob did slow the ball down too much at times.
On Wirtz, he was instrumental in us playing very well in the 1st half and yet 2nd half I reckon he had half the amount of touches as we didn’t get the ball to him, and it’s not the 1st time,
Surely for the players and Arne you should be working to get him on the ball as much as is possible and then move off him!
Is it a fatigue issue that Wirtz doesn’t show as much?, are the opposition altering their tactics to man mark him?
For me I do see him tire but not to the extent of having half the touches, it seems a mental or tactical shift and as we become more conservative and boring in possession and get back to the horseshoe football, rather than the penetrating pass and move footy.
I thought we were excellent 1st half and apart from not finishing off chances it was the best we had played against a low block and looked like everything was clicking. Then half time came and we came out blaise and were back to pedestrian footy and seeing that 2nd half killed my hope for Arne.
Surely he can see what we see and should be putting a rocket up their arses and he should sub the next player that starts a 2nd half at a pedestrian pace with half hearted passes just like he did with Quansah in his 1st game, show the players he means business!
I don’t get this stability thing you keep going on about, at the moment most of our performing players arecthe new signings and the only one that left that we had the option to keep and should have kept is Diaz.
Apart from Szob and Grav, to some extent, very few of the starters from last year have had a good season.
Did anyone else notice that we seemed to start fannying about in our own half just before we conceded? I know i was shouting to just hoof it up the field if they couldn’t find a safe pass.
In recent matches i just end up saying “I saw that coming” before we concede, because it always seems to be preceeded by what they used to call schoolboy errors.
2nd half yes, 1st half no, we played very well against their low block and was let down by our finishing.
They gambled on a 1-0 lead. It wasn’t something he did in the first 6 or so months he was here. They went and got the second. However at times when 2-0 up at the beginning of the season they somewhat went for a third and were pegged back.
He’s been caught in this in my view. He really should have trusted his players to get that second yesterday but it seems obvious that the instructions weren’t that.
What is missing is that quick attack. That would often pick them off and we even had it at times at the start. The whole thing needs a complete rethink or a complete change.
Yep mentioned it in the pre match thread, we played our usual slow ball to our CB’s who played poor passes to our fullbacks under pressure and with no outlet, one led to the goal and the other led to Konates shot which Ali saved.
We had one great chance at a quick attack and a poorly weighted pass from Wirtz to Szob, who would have been away and through on goal, firked it up. Flo’s worst pass of the day, whereas he was excellent otherwise.
Yeah but it was usually set up at 2-0 not 1-0. This team isn’t good enough to protect that kind of lead.
I had a post half written saying “I know none of us like going 2-0 up, but this is starting to feel like a second goal might be nice…” and never got to post it. Two or 3 times we gave it away poorly in our own half and while none of them directly contributed to the goal it did create that period of 5-10 mins where kind of out of no where Burnley felt like there might be something in the game for them.
Have enough bad luck at the wrong times, and it becomes a confidence issue. Keep that up and it becomes a crisis.
We have gone 2-0 up in 11 games this season and haven’t scored the 3rd goal in any of them, we’ve conceded it 8 times…a mad state of affairs.
What a massive wasted opportunity this match turned out to be, squandering a chance to pick up on all of the top 3
We picked up a point on two of them.
Yeah, but should have picked up 3. Just grinding out another 30 minutes (or scoring another damn goal) could have put us back in touch with the Top 3. We seem determined to hand Arsenal the trophy.
Deffo several games we’ve thrown away a lot of points since the Spurs game.
It’s been a really disappointing period bar the Arsenal performance.
Everyone does!
But they also seem just as determined to refuse it!
It seems to me that Slot has players restricted to strict zones which other teams simply pass through. On attack it seems they are trying to use set plays drilled in training, which takes away any spontaneity in our play and results in endless recycling.
We also hardly ever run with the ball in midfield and beat a man like other teams, which puts sides under pressure. All we do is pass and when nobody is there, just recycle. Also everything we do is pass to the feet instead of into space, which was what TAA was good at. Players like Hugo and Isak want the ball played into space so they can make runs.
Seems like everyone is trying to hand it to Arsenal. It’s only seven points still but if they don;t win it this season then they never will.
