Comparing Slot’s worst period with Hodgson’s overall average. Doesn’t really tell us much
I have, he seems to have no more ideas.
That hurts!
Sort of reminded me that the Mancs supporters comparing their coaches against Kloppo’s first season and a half at LFC or something like that. ![]()
Hodgsons stats, for clarity.
three games more. three.

edit.
just re read your post, i misunderstood your point.soz.
my two-bits on the situation is that the change over from the last few years is that it’s too soon/quick for some players. I mean “how can our style of play (for want of a better phrase”) differ so much from a side that last season won the League at a canter?. I feel that, Macca feels isolated because all his lingo side of players have gone. The new lads are just starting to get integrated ( I feel that from seeing the lack of goal celebrations), and probably the old guard still feeling the very unfortunate Jota tragedy. I think, we need to have more than a bucket full of patience with our lads. They brought us to a tremendous high last season, that it’s become difficult to see and appreciate them for being human.
Could go on and on, so just want to say, support our club ( which is of staff and players and the tea lady) through this difficult period, as sung in our anthem.

You can support the club and still question whether the trainer is the right person to take us forward.
It’s not a matter of blind faith.
I think it is pertinent because it’s so many games. It’s 1.24 points/game over 17 PL games. Hodgson was sacked for that record over 20 games. Arne is only a loss or two away from the dreaded ‘retains full confidence of the board’ death spiral.
hence the splurge on the attacking cohort in the summer. Strategy - get the ball into their third and wait for the magic to happen.
p.s. Dom slowing the ball down was strategic for me. It was part of the “control”, i.e. get the pieces in position and wait for the goal. As we approached the last 15 (which was too soon for that happened next), Dom started the aimless chips and low percentage crosses - which more than anything else was just unsightly.
We were just outdrawn by a team with the simpler, clearer plan.
It tells plenty. Slot’s recent record with a title winning team is worse than Hodgson’s who had the one of poorest LFC squads in the last 65 years.
It’s not a small sample either.
Reminder that the title winning team was Slot’s also
It’s data cherry picking. Selecting the last 17 to get the worst ppg. Slot’s overall ppg is 2.06
Of course it’s cherry picked. It illustrates Slot’s recent struggles, not his entire tenure.
There are definitely opportunities to be braver and quicker in transition. I counted about five or six times in the game yesterday where Burnley had committed, and we had a decent chance to catch them exposed. Every time we checked back, recycled the ball to the centre backs, and let them get in shape. Dom especially was infuriating for this. I hate seeing him get on the ball, and do the ‘calm down lads’ hand thing. No mate, how about pass the ball forwards, and let’s see if we can score a goal?
Agreed this was frustrating and clearly a strategic instruction.
I do agree that there are times that an option to pass forward is on but just being braver and passing the ball forward doesn’t always work especially if its a pass to someone with no support or opportunities around them if they are given the ball to progress the play.
Each play/pass should be situational, we shouldn’t just be passing down blind alleys, which I do see happen at the back and getting us to play into the oppositions traps when they press us.
Or is it like basketball to get players in position to run set plays?
Is it trying to get the organisation so our attackers/forward players have options?
Are we playing by numbers and struggling for it to be fluid so keep having to reset?
We need to replace Slot while season isnt completely over.
Few weeks more of him and our seasons probably over.
This isn’t the problem for me. Holding onto the ball and making it obvious where your going to play the ball is. The opposition defence just walks into position and makes life more difficult for the player recieving the the ball.
We do this from all positions on the pitch. The opposition doesn’t even break into a sweat.
Dom was particularly noticeable yesterday as he would move forward with the ball when a simple possession keeping pass was on from the off. This was invariably the pass he made after wasting time and allowing the opposition to stroll into position.
This is usually a problem when you have too many ‘play makers’ on the pitch. What you really want to be doing imo is get the ball to A playmaker, which yesterday was Wirtz imo, who then decides whether to recycle or try and create something (à la Barcelona).
We just don’t apply enough pressure on the opposition to find the dope. Which means in possession we expend more energy, physical and mental, than the opposition. Which is probably why we look so knackered.
We’re just not doing it right!
Meh. More inconsistency.
But on the other hand, you have to say that Lady Luck has abandoned us completely this season, a punishment for all the hubris during the summer, when stability should have been the key word from A to Z, and the club did the exact contrary. Now we pay the price for that.
Next season will be far better, with or without Slot.
But we went on to win the European cup I am holding on to that memory and wish the same thing happens this year because top 4 is going to tough to achieve if we carry on like this.
