Need someone growling at them to get their heads up and go again or someone who can grab the game by the scruff of the neck, our previous 2 captains come to mind.
We did the 1st half we controlled and created … 2nd half same old, same old
That’s exactly what we need.
You would think Virg could do it but it may be his laid back approach.
On Virg, 1st half he was driving us forward even moving with the ball, 2nd half lazily playing it about.
Perhaps the 2 previous captains…and a vice captan…could take charge in the changing room at half time…or in a few weeks…
Liverpool have 5 wins and 21 points in their last 17 Premier League games - 1.24 pts/game.
Roy Hodgson averaged 1.25 pts/game as Liverpool manager
And this is why some of us are so ticked off at losing out on Marc Guehi. We need all the leaders we can get…
I wanted him in Summer, but I don’t think he is that type of leader, he was my choice with what he offers in positional sense and on the ball, which both our CB’s lacked when playing it out from the back to feet.
Virgil is 34 and quality wise it feels like he is slightly past his prime. Nothing wrong with that.
But as a captain/leader it feels like he has changed since he’s not playing under Klopp anymore. As if he’s afraid to be a captain too much.
And hard to bollock someone when you are also making similar mistakes.
One of the few things that I am truly glad about today’s match is that Ngumoha being available. I was really worry about his health from the FA Cup match.
"Liverpool have failed to secure a win against any of the promoted teams at Anfield this season for the first time since 1981! "
That was under our best performing manager!
So means very little ![]()
That was 100% on the players. Can’t do the basics. We’ve moaned all fucking season about low blocks but beat it in the 1st minute only for Kerkez to square it instead of putting it into the fucking net.
Slobo never looked like scoring his pen. I didn’t like his run-up at all and wasn’t surprised at all when he missed.
Their goalscorer showed more conviction with their 1 shot at goal than our lads showed with our fucking 32 shots or whatever it was.
MacAllister and Gakpo are both stealing a living from our football club.
Not making any comment on Slot tonight, for all his faults he’s managing some fucking wankers who are done at this club.
What the fuck has happened to MacAllister? Genuine question. This bloke is a world cup winner.
had a good game against arsenal i thought…
He was always a poor captain imo. Our performances always took a knock when he stood in for Hendo.
Let’s face it he’s always struggled to organise the defence let alone captain as well. The task is even greater now with the defensive problems we have.
We have good players in the team however we haven’t a captain in the sense of a leader not one leads by example. Makes integrating players difficult.
I genuinely feel this result could be then end of Slot. He is losing the crowd. He may be also losing the team.
.
A draw with Burnley at home is poor. I know they are a tough team but they are doing it tough. We should have put them to the sword.
Theres a fair bit to talk about in this result and performance, i thought the first half was really, REALLY good, the movement between the players was as good as we have seen this season.
Wirtz class. Ekitike good(ish) but still plenty young enough to build from this game, loved Frimpong up and down that line, having Salah back means he will no longer have that space to run into so Slot has an issue there
i honestly thought Dom was well off the pace, ignore the penalty, but the question has been asked about how can you play ‘Fast’ through a low block team and the answer was Dom was the bottleneck a few times, just a few too many touches, moving into trouble and generally slowing the ball down too much when the chance was on to move it…he gets a pass though because he obviously has been holding it together for alot of this season.
that second half though…man o man…is it a direction from the bench to play so…the words not quite right, but…arrogantly, when we get a goal up, just stroll that ball around and wait for the right moment … it really is hard to watch, even if we scored the penalty and didnt concede, but the performance stayed the same, id be a little flat.
and i think thats the crux here, i think Slots team is not playing this way becuase we didnt sign so and so, or we are battling out of a form slump, i think this is Slots Vision of football, this is what hes aspiring to, get a goal or two up and strangle the life out of the game…
ive been critical of the man over the past few months and the other side of the coin has been along the lines of ’ patience, he needs to figure this out’ …’ we need to play our way back into form’…‘wait until such and such comes back/gets sold’…‘this is only half the journey’…type stuff.
but im worried that this is it…slow control, patiently waiting for a technically superior player to unlock the game…tough watching.
Isn’t this sort of the general consensus of how you play low block teams when you have a lead with plenty of time still to play?
You shift them around, keep them chasing, wear them down physically and mentally. We don’t need to chase the game but eventually they’ll have to come out the low block and that’s when you strike.
Our problem is the shifting then round and keeping them chasing isn’t done quickly enough to have the effect it’s intended to do. Couple that with our inability to create chances of finish them when we do. It then just seems we’re the ones worn down by all the possession players so we’re then easy to cut open when teams do have a go.
It’s stale possession rather than active. We’re too slow and teams don’t have to worry about chasing us or be that worried when they have a foray upfield.
