Post Match: Liverpool v Burnley (EPL 21/1/21 8pm)

One can only get behind the team on Anfield, posting on a forum will not change one iota to the team, one way or the other.

One thing to remember is that it’s a mad season.

Everton, Leicester, Spurs and United have all had spells where they looked like challengers before falling off. FFS it’s only about six weeks since ole was odds on the get sacked.

We’ll come again, and others will have there periods of struggle.

I was pleasantly surprised by Origi last night but that’s comparing to his previous performances so he was starting from a long way down.

Should have scored but wasn’t to be. That’s the breaks when you’re struggling. Everything becomes 5 times harder.

Ten minutes before that Mane shot over and by doing it he was taking down. It all happened inside the box, they did not even give it a second thought. Typical.

The worry is that miss has destroyed what was left of his fragile confidence… I’d start him on Sunday though, got to give him another chance as he did play ok. He infuriates me with how lazy he is though, he walks far too much yet comes alive if he recieves the ball. If he could only work harder off the ball he’d replace Bobby quickly.

Which also coincided with them having to drop their midfield anchor back in defence.

Quite stark parallels when you break it down like this.

Damn I did not want to be like City.

Pictures show Ali knocked the ball away, and thug Barnes tried to jump over him…but then he realised he could Swizz the ref for a pen…Var…yes they might have looked at it, but who knows…we never hear the conversation(as in rugby)…if anything thug shit Barnes kicked Ali…felt sick to the pit of my stomach this morning…but read Millie’s message…Onwards and Upwards…COYR…

Yes, once again where the FUCK IS VAR all of a sudden.

I do not understand the penalty. Yes if the ball was still in play because he touched him. In this case for me it is no penalty because he already kicked the ball and out of the field.

Slight difference here.

Fernandinho was shit in defence, destabilised them and caused them to leak goals.

Fabinho is brilliant in defence, and while we’ve been profligate in attack, we’re not conceding goals.

I just don’t believe that you can suffer mental tiredness kicking a football for a stupidly well paid living. Far more likely top of the tree can’t be arsed itis.

Has the standard of NHS care dropped because the staff are suffering mental exhaustion? No. Use all the excuses you want for our performances of late but mental exhaustion? Easy excuse and utterly untrue IMHO.

Of course you don’t. You have a singular inability to consider anything outside your own personal life experience and limited ‘common sense’ reasoning.

A bit like comparing Formula 1 races with long distance truck driving

I agree. The huge mountain we climbed over the past 2 seasons must have been mentally draining for our boys. We need to freshen up the team. Hopefully Jota, Kostas and Minamino can play their part in this.
YNWA.

Klopp can only work with what he’s got. Is it his fault that he hasn’t had the go ahead to sign at least one decent orthodox central defender? Is it his fault he has to use midfielders as stand-in CBs, thus weakening both defence and midfield in one fell swoop?

No it is not.

My concern is the opposite. This feels so much like his last year at Dortmund now. He looks tired and frustrated. I have also noted that two of the other teams in other sports that I follow have emotionally intense head coaches, whose style relies on that emotion. Michigan football was a disaster this year. Duke basketball was headed that way. Both of those coaches in normal times balance that intensity with perspective on life, much as Klopp does. I don’t believe either of them really believed the season should be going ahead under the circumstances, I wonder what Klopp actually thinks.

I have a growing sense that he will step down at the end of the season, and I just don’t have much interest in watching how that plays out.

I have had this feeling as well, but think it is only that, like a logarithm out of control. I cannot see Klopp walking from this, unless of course, there are considerable issues compounding the situation in the background. This is rather unlikely given there are numerous issues in the foreground.

And you think that playing football can make you mentally tired. I presume then you have no life experience or that which you do is scared with the effects of punishing sportsmanship.

People in this country do properly stressful jobs and keep doing them to a high standard. Football just isn’t one of them.

Now we’re excusing footballers for being mentally tired? Try being a doctor or nurse right now. Give me strength.

Well, I agree with redbj’s sense that the (perhaps justified) failure to reinforce/refresh has compounded the situation. Klopp, like much of the team, just doesn’t seem to have the same intensity and energy left in the tank - and I just don’t think he is a guy who waits around to get fired. If he has the sense that a major overhaul is required now, and he doesn’t have the mental energy to be the guy who does that, he is likely to say so, say thanks for the brilliant memories, and walk away to recharge his batteries for a while.
