Post match: Liverpool v Chelsea (EPL 28/8/2021 5.30pm)

Without any doubt.

He went out of his way to give Chelsea everything they asked for. For example, the corner they were awarded that lead to their goal. Did Trent actually make any contact with the ball?

Neither the assistant ref or blue-moon were suitably positioned to see it. But as soon as the chavs appealed blue-moon gave it.

For the record it was a penalty for me. Sending off was harsh but straight up in accordance with the laws of the game. We all know the rules are pretty screwed up half the time so it is what it is.

2 things I’d like to see introduced.

  1. referees report. Allows the referee to refer something /someone for a post game review of an incident

  2. most importantly. Citing. Independent citing panel to call up any player for an unseen incident. Yes looking at you Azpilicueta

Down side is the panel needs to be independent. Good luck with that.

I said before a ball was kicked this season that the biggest threat we faced was from the fucking cheats who ‘referee’ our games, and if we didn’t stand up to it we will be shafted just like we have been the last few years.
The Burnley and Chelsea games have both followed the same pattern. Any contact by a Liverpool player is a free-kick while the opposition are allowed to do just about anything they like with impunity.
As we’ve seen before, the moment Klopp says anything he’s vilified in the media and the cheats make it even more obvious what they’re doing. I just don’t know what the answer is, it’s fucking depressing.

I’m not sure if it was a corner, I don’t know if the referee thought it was a corner but something that’s 100% is that Alisson definitely thought it was a corner.

I agree with you Jaffod although part of the solution is to give back what we get on the pitch - be it physical or acting/cheating. For better and worse Jurgen won’t play like that and sure as hell won’t coach players to do that - unlike pep, Mourinho, tuchel etc. Just have to accept part of having Klopp is that we play fair and that means we are especially susceptible to incompetent and corrupt refereeing.

agree with the feigning of the head injury.

its actually dangerous becuase the consequences are no one takes a player holding his head as serious…

theres a few things that should just be self governed…this is one of them…

What the game needs is an independent ethics committee that meet after each match day…
Ex European referees as an example…
Let them view incidents like that of Azpilicueta… and haul his arse over the coals with fines and suspensions when found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute…!
The game is crumbling before our very eyes, because it has no backbone in authority that is acting in its best interests

Just how “independent” do you think they’ll be when the brown envelopes start arriving from the Middle East?

Like any committee… change of personnel every season or so…
Something needs to be done… Too many self serving incumbents at the moment instead of serving the game that feeds and waters them… Yes Mike Riley… It is you being referred to.!

Fernandes did the same thing twice yesterday.
Its the worst form of shithouse tactics.

I did initially think it wasn’t but in the game they showed a replay from the opposite angle and it did come off the underside of Trent’s foot. It’s also noticeable in your gif; Alonso kicks it on a fairly upward trajectory and the ball immediately bounces after it passes Trent’s foot. Definitely made a contact and definitely a corner. About the only thing they got right, sadly, and quite gleefully too. The rest of the decision making was shocking. I counted at least 5 five free kicks in a decent goal scoring position and at least 1 where we should have had a pen for grappling at a corner. How on earth anyone can be expected to play with such an uneven calling of the game is beyond me.

Fuck me we don’t half moan about referees these days.

‘The boys who cry wolf’ ideal candidates…

But are we not entitled to ask questions?
Taylor had no choice but give a penalty on Saturday. Pre VAR he would have got away with denying Liverpool a major decision.

Ye course just stop with all this conspiracy theory bullshit it’s really tiresome.

Yes he would have missed it, but when Iwatching the match in real time I missed it. Yes I thought “did that hit a hand”
Taylor could ah e thought that too and with VAR there is no need at all to blow and give a pen there… just let that phase play out and then go and check the monitor.

Fact of the matter is, we couldn’t beat Chelsea, who were down to 10 men for 1/2 the game and possibly had the better chances to win it, and some how there are still some fucking lemmings on here who think that there is some sort of agenda against us.

We’re 3 games in, not had any contentious decisions go against us but somehow there is still a conspiracy theory. We are starting to sound like Everton fans ffs.

I’ll take it you didn’t see any of the assaults by Burnley players last week then? Jota literally being lifted off his feet and thrown to the floor, a defender changing direction at the last second and knocking Jota off his feet in the box - blatant penalty ignored, Barnes on Matip late on, no bookings at all…or the fact we didn’t get one free-kick off Taylor second half against Chelsea despite having 67% possession.
It doesn’t have to be an outrageous decision go against us for it to be an agenda, although there have been plenty of them over the past few years. It can be more subtle, the constant blowing up whenever a Liverpool player makes the slightest contact on an opponent, allowing the same contact on a Liverpool player to go unpunished.
You think our games at Goodison and St Mary’s last season were refereed fairly? There were others too but those 2 games in particular were fucking bent as a dog’s back leg.
Of course it all evens itself out over the season doesn’t it? I wish I could be so naive, it would cause me a lot less stress.

I think you’re missing the problem here. Doesn’t matter what we do, the refereeing is so inconsistent that whatever others can get away with we’ll definitely get penalised for.

Noticeable on Sunday. First 4 challenges by Liverpool players all resulted in a free-kick to Chelsea while a blatant push in the back on one of our lads by the dugout and the Mancunian referee does nothing.

I’m not even a conspiracy person, but anyone ought to be able to see that Taylor is just incompetent.

It came off his body (normally used as mitigation) and his arm was tight by his side (natural position and all that). As unfair as it feels, especially given the strictness on scoring with your hand, the fact his hand stopped it being a goal doesn’t factor into the decisions. One might look at it and say it’s a handball, but there is plenty of mitigating circumstances in there to make it well within reason to not want to give a pen for that.

For me, the only debate is whether the supposed movement of the arm to the ball was movement of the arm per se, or movement of his body to get it behind the ball that just happens to have an arm attached to it that the ball of eventually richoeted onto.

The one that really pissed me off was when Kante rode Mane’s back like he was a pony. It looked at first like Taylor was playing and advantage because hte ball fell to Trent, but when he laid it off to Bobby, who had to check his run because of a tangled up Kante and Mane right in front of him, Chelsea got it back and broke and Taylor said play on. It was two lost opportunities back to back (foul on Mane and a good free kick position) and it also looked like Bobby having to pull up so quickly to avoid crashing into Mane and Kante is where he did his hamstring.

This is the part of the debate that confuses me. With the rules as they are regarding DOGSO, if the ref gives a penalty then the red card is automatic.
