Post match: Liverpool v Chelsea (EPL 4/3/21 8.15pm)

We are a pile of wank at the moment.

The good news is we are only 4 points off the top 4. I’ve been saying for months give me 4th and I’ll snatch y’a hand off

The bad news is “only 4 points” may as well be 20 points because unless we get out of this crisis (and it is a crisis, no a blip) then we’ve got no chance.

Hahah remember a few months ago when we thought we could tempt players like Mbappe?!? Hahah good times.

We miss out on 4th the consequences in the transfer market will be huge.

Now that Jota is back I don’t really wanna see Firmino start for a while. He has been dreadful for 6 months and the bloke needs a rest.

Also because signing good characters has been key to Klopp’s philosophy and our success. I think the genuinely are nice lads. Agree with Mascot’s point though. Was shouting at tv when Mane got pulled over and none of his team mates said a thing

Our team is seriously void of leaders.

Hendo
VVD
Milner
Robbo

That’s about it.

You forgot point 5 which is the most important one, we played like shit.

We played a 4-2-3-1 in the last two games instead of 4-3-3. But yeah, its okay to dismiss that and moan about why we not changing tactics.

I think one problem is we look stale. The same players have been listening to the manager saying the same things for a few years now and it does get stale. I know we have had a few shuffles with tactics and a few new faces added but nothing significant. It is difficult for the manager and the players to change the mind set but this is what is needed. Silly thing is it could possibly have been avoided had FSG spent a few bob early in Jan who knows.
I do know that this was the beauty of coaching at U18 level. About 50% of the squad would be to old every season and new faces would come in so no player had to listen to the same old tactics more than 3 seasons and I had to change things every season due to diffderent players with different skill sets.

I’m beginning to think you’re right but in addition we’re lacking leadership. Big time.

Tactically I think we’re off as well but that is in part down to the injury situation but it was mentioned earlier in this thread on the midfield. I think it’s right. We lack bite and leadership in the middle and that is both due to having players not available to play in there but you would still hope for better from the starting three yesterday. Clearly the balance is off.

Up front though, I’m still at a loss. Only one shot on goal last night. I daren’t look how many Chelsea had.

The penalty thing fucks me off big time. If Gomez concedes a penalty earlier in the season then that one last night is a penalty as well. It doesn’t excuse the performance but it may have rescued a point and I’ll grab anything I can right now.

Everyone been saying for last couple of years about how many leaders we have. Looks like it was just Hendo and VVD all along. I know Robbo is Scotland captain but he doesn’t strike me as someone who has the authority to rally the troops

Well, for 4-2-3-1 to work, you have to drop Firmino and put a goalscorer in the center.

We were top at Christmas, yes some odd performances in the period between Watford when we lost 3-0 and now but some really good performances.

First 7 this season we scored 20 and conceded 7, last 6 scored 2 and conceded 9 at home.

Consider 3 came against Man City and it’s evident what’s happened our whole attacking ability had collapsed and that’s a manner of things but though we had poor performances against the likes of Aston Villa, we were never this poor consistently over a period as pointed out against Villa we were creating enough to score.

This has been poor for 3 months not 12 and certainly not 18.

He was playing the number 10 role

As for Dortmund 2.0, people forget that was down mostly to a horrific injury list that cleared up and allowed Dortmund to shoot up the table after their mid season break and almost got top 4.

As for the Europa League do what most teams do play the second string, we’ve been saying what the likes of Ox needs is games, with Elliott and others we probably won’t be able to shift its useful in that, if we somehow end up in that conference thing then again use it as experience for the second string.

I think it’s a bit of a fallacy anyhow.

Nothing “fickle” about pointing out that we’ve been crap for a long time now.

Because we have.

It’s since the Watford game last season, so not quite 18 months, but the point still stands.

We’ve been mixed not crap, it’s like trundling along a road with the odd bump, the last three months we’ve basically fallen off the road.

I’m beginning to think we need some wholesale tactical changes to be honest. I cant say if that’s 100% the case but I think we certainly need to look at doing something different.

At the moment it feels like we’re knocking on the door when no one’s home. We wont accept no one’s home so we keep knocking, and knocking and knocking and knocking.

That’s Liverpool FC for you. Always in the extremes… That’s also why Kloppo fits in so well with us. He too tends to get into extreme situations, and runs of results. Think about that abnormal spell with Dortmund, or that incredible run of lost finals , before finally getting it right with us and winning the CL.
He also has had to face incredible injury jinxes before. Although the current one takes the absolute piss to be fair.
The good thing is that he always comes out of these spells. Stronger, and with more experience to share with his players. We’ll be good, it’s just a matter of time.

I think some of that neat rubbish in around the box needs to be cut out, there was at least three occasions when a shot was on and it turned into a flick and then a loss of the ball.

Robertson can’t shoot for fuck but if those who could did what he does we might actually score.

We collected 2.04 points on average from that watford game up until the 7-0 against Crystal Palace. 25 games 51 points. 38 games with a 2.04 point average would give us 77,5 points. Not what we want exactly but not crap. And its 2,5 months from that Crystal Palace game so yeah we’ve been crap for 2 and a half months.

Take City and Leicester out it’s been 0-1 for most of it, we’ve now had at least 4 or 5 games in the league in which we have had the tamest of Shots of target, we had one last night and that was a tame Gini header.

End of the day if we missed four or five chances like we did first half against Sheffield United I can accept that, I can’t accept that last night. And we can’t even trot out the 10 men behind the ball.

I believe Sheffield United have more points in 2021 than us.
