Post match: Liverpool v Chelsea (EPL 9/5/26 12.30pm)

Spot on.

I don’t think anyone would matter if they are performing. I didn’t even much care about them going on a bender for the last 4 games.

But statements they make about how they must improve and they don’t deserve booing and the performances shown. That was crap on Saturday. Sorry but utterly shite anyone suggesting we were unlucky to not win is talking horseshit.

Looking lethargic and disorganized is not necessarily a direct product of taking breaks.
There’s no scientific basis for that conclusion except optical illusion…:innocent:

It reminds me of Fox News going crazy about Obama golfing. And then Trump happened

Me too.
I’m a bit of a Cascarino fan though. I remember following Nancy because he was there. They didn’t do too bad :joy:.

The point of training is to increase organisation, fitness and sharpness. All of which are lacking currently.
If swanning around luxury hotels improved performance, all the leading clubs would be doing it.

He is a huge Reds fan. I think it was Kevin Keegan who inspired him.
I listen to his weekend breakfast show, he is very fair in his analysis on Liverpool and football in general. He gives a great overview on Ligue un and European football as well.

And being fit and sharp is not necessarily about working out 7 days a week. Or living in the gym.
Plus being sharp is also a mental health issue.

To reduce what is today a complex and multifaceted issue to such basic and infantile level is simply laughable

I knew that would come .

Being sharp in the way we see top level athletes is not a mental health issue. It may be affected by wellbeing or mood, but it isn’t a mental health issue in the terms of how mental health is analysed.

You’re overdoing the multi faceted and complex narrative of fitness. Our players look gassed after 60 or 70 minutes. That is a training and conditioning problem. And midweek mid season breaks are not going to improve that.

Sometimes what we see is what’s reality. Mo Salah speaking out should be enough proof that standards are dropping, our players aren’t fit enough. Time that was addressed

Our running stats probably has a lot more to do with preseason than mid season breaks which almost every professional team does.

And if you don’t understand what mental sharpness has to do with this, then its pointless continuing this conversation

And literally is no one is demanding the players train 7 days a week. It’s just a silly strawman that’s easy to knock down instead of dealing with the actual concerns/criticism about our approach.

Midseason breaks by themselves are not a problem and in some cases are indeed beneficial. For that to be the case though the team would need to have put in enough hard work over a long enough time that a break was the best use of our limited time. That is the difference between Klopp’s guys getting a single mid season break and these guys getting one every other week and doing so in the context of working far less in between games than previously and looking physically dog shit as a result.

Recovery is obviously critical for top level athletes. But a focus on recovery at the exclusion of actually doing the hard work to recovery from just leaves you unfit. But at least they’re unfit while looking fabulous walking through the streets of Rome

Mental sharpness vs Mental Health Issues.

I never argued re mental sharpness. You’re use of the original terminolgy is incorrect, though I doubt you’ll accept that.
You’re catching yourself out in an attempt to be a smartarse.

And again, not many arguing mid season breaks, but a team clearly lacking in fitness shouldn’t be taking such.

It’s still mental health…just a component of it

Not in the terminology of mental health issues.
Suggesting that sharpness in an athletic sense is a mental health issue is incorrect. Think again. And it’s perfectly ok to admit your mistake.

Earlier I gave an example of how presidents golf..

Staying mentally sharp is a core component of over.overall mental health.

This is getting embarrassing

  1. No one is saying they won’t support the club, it’s their passion for supporting it that is creating the pain that we see in some of the more extreme reactions.
  2. Shankly never said that.

My favourite Shanks quote is when he sang “happy birthday Mr President” like a whore to JFK
