Post Match: Liverpool v Everton (EPL 20/2/21 5.30pm)

Bit of a myth that. That never happened. Howe muted it but instead she appointed the Czar Heseltine, one of my personal heroes, who then oversaw the revitalization of this city. It is thanks to him and the investment that he brought with him that we have this amazing vibrant city. I well remember the city of my childhood and youth and that’s why for me, Heseltine is a hero and not Hatton and the militant shower who I know from personal experience were happy to see the city decline. It suited their agenda…

BTW thanks for the pm. Keep up the good work :+1:

That’s not strictly true either.

Thatcher was certainly somewhere between ‘open to’ and ‘keen on’ a managed decline strategy. Heseltine talked her out of it, not the other way around. Geoffrey Howe was, I think, the main proponent of the managed decline.

Others in Thatcher’s cabinet were more radical. Some argued for ‘evacuation’ (what ever the fuck that meant). Other suggested that Birmingham was the better candidate for an intervention.

But exonerating Thatcher is nonsense. She had allowing a great industrial city into managed decline on the cabinet agenda and had to be talked out of it. That isn’t good.

Where did I say that I exonerated her? I said she didn’t go with that policy so it never happened. I was no fan of Thatcher btw

I agree that the injuries are the major reason for our poor form but the CB problem is not the main reason for our lack of goals. We are playing as if on auto pilot at the moment but stuck in second gear. Just lacking that vital edge that will bring us goals. In situations like this I think a change of tactics of some sort is needed. Something that will get the players thinking again and also make the opposition think again. We are making it to easy for the opposition at the moment.

The forwards are certainly not helping by not taking the scant chances we are providing, but you have to also bear in mind that losing all our Centre Backs is making it harder to attack with the same abandon as previous years, create the same overloads etc.

We’re being more cautious, less willing to take risks and much more sensitive to losing the ball and allowing a turnover.

We’re also having to play deeper and commit fewer players forward.

That’s before we even think about how instrumental Van Dijk was in starting quick attacks with long raking balls to either flank.

Can’t remember the last time anyone got to by-line to dribble across or pull it back… or even cross it within 10metres of the same by-line…

Took that from Simon Hughes account. Thatcher supported the idea, Heseltine changed minds.

But you get the idea, it was mooted as a strategy

Mané against RBL. Firmino goal disallowed.

Well, our CB were a force with corners too. Nowadays we have nobody tall and strong enough to worry the opponents defense they know they will win the ball 99 out of 100.

I’ve just wondered if referees, who seem to be an arrogant bunch of cocks are actually too stuck up their own areas to realise the VAR is there to help them. They see it as something that is there to undermine them / highlight and correct their errors.

I get that impression from Kavanagh yesterday.

Top 4 seems like miles away now.
Leicester winning and West ham, fucking West ham have won again.
The issue is we will need to win at least 10 of final 13 and I don’t think this side is capable of such results.

Walshy,
West Ham and Leicester are bound to drop points somewhere along the way. All is not lost.

If these things evened themselves out in our matches I’d be willing to consider it but they don’t. There are a number of referees intent on fucking us over and they either ignore the evidence available or manipulate VAR to reach the decision they want. It’s corruption, simple as that.

Proves my point… it is a tactic worth persevering with eh!
Now the hard part… getting the message across to Robbo + TAA.! :flushed:

Those nasty, clueless idiots Lineker, Murphy and the former Arsenal defender (can’t remember his name now) said the same: clear penalty. In the face of any common sense, and without even looking for mitigating circumstances.

I said to my long suffering wife that Phillips should partner Kabak and put Hendo back in midfield, and thus it happened due to another fucking injury! Maybe if JK had done that then Hendo would not be injured? I know, speculation, but! This is a hellish season with our lads being shafted by Pickford(not even sent off!), Richarlason, referees and VAR - oh yes, and these damn injuries!

Never a penalty, but the ref is a Manc I believe? We didn’t play too bad, and due to their keeper making a couple of decent saves may have scored. Its time for JK to play Phillips and Kabak, and when Fab returns stick him in midfield. Jota is back soon, so we may see some goals! Gotta live in hope folks.

Time to hibernate…

Fair point. Not sure I’d go as far as corruption yet but i cant shake the feeling that something isn’t right.

I don’t think it influenced the result yesterday but I’m still angered by what I saw and that’s not me.

I cant believe that most of the post match discussion has been around the referee rather than our performance…

Yes, the ref did make a mistake over the pen but most of what happened yesterday is down to us. We are playing shit football and have been since Xmas…(scraped a few before to be fair but still got results).

We had a number of players out injured before that point and yes it has got worse but the biggest change has been our ability to score goals and win games.

It’s only natural that we were going to struggle a bit but this decline has been like falling off a cliff.

The problem is staring us in the face week in week out. Our attack has stalled due the addition of one player. His playing skill does not suit our successful fast attacking play that has been our most lethal weapon.

Since he returned our fortunes have plummeted. So why doesn’t Klopp bench him. He has always been quick to pull players in the past that didn’t add much (Minamino?) So why is this guy untouchable? It’s because he is a Bundesleague legend. Klopp has Thiago coloured specs on based on this guys pedigree. He needs to be on the Subs bench for the next few games just to see how we do without him.
