Post Match: Liverpool v Everton (EPL 20/2/21 5.30pm)

FFS lads different things can be true at the same time-

It was never a penalty…and we we’d have lost that game either way.

Having 5 CBs injured has cost us dear…and too many of our players are underperforming

Yes, so did I. I saw exactly what I said. We didn’t score but we made quite a few chances, and were going at Everton with wave after wave for stretches. Especially third quarter of the game, from half time to the ‘pen’

I get that we didn’t score, and I get that we need to do more. But the idea we were never going to score is a bit harsh. If you asked a neautral who was going to get the next goal before the pen there would have only been one answer.

Even more so with Bobby off form, and with deadly pace of Mane and Salah.

We could’ve today put Mane and Salah up top positioned off the Everton defence’s shoulders. Then have the diamond formation with Shaq at the tip, which worked well several games ago.

Added to that, no nonsense proper defenders staring at the back (how Nat keeps playing well only to be benched next game is beyond me).

Seems like Kabak is there for his supposed better attributes, but he’s not looked comfortable even in the RB Leipzig game. I really wouldn’t mind Davies and Nat (would be both in favoured positions) starting against Sheff Utd (who will play very similar to Everton today).

Remember the dreaded trio of Milner, Gini and Henderson having such a dysfunctional balance to it that it affected our offence and contributed nothing to the defence for a while? I think we have a new successor to this combination now with Thiago, Jones and Gini being the new dysfunctional midfield trio in our team…

And didn’t finish them with nothing to do with the ref. In this case, in this match, we lost fair and square because we played worse than Everton. I know your opinion on refs but in this instance we lost due to our inability to score.

I think this is quite easy to understand.

The penalty decision takes the situation from ‘probably not going to win’ to ‘definitely not going to win’.

That’s why it’s fair enough to rage at the referee.

I think the difference between this and the other night is that the players have given up on the league whereas they are still in with a chance of the CL. They don’t look too bothered… :disappointed: this is down to the players not the manager.

not even angry anymore,
i am just used to these sort of performances now.

some folk will blame the ref for giving the penalty,
but even if he didnt give it, i am pretty sure we wouldnt have scored to get a draw,
or go on and win,

On the using our 117th pairing at CB this season,
I am confused by this excuse,
cos every team that visits Anfield, parks the bus and dont bother attacking anyway

Something need to change, and hopefully its a lot of players this summer,
cos a few of this collection of players are done here,
this teams needs freshening up

Anyone with an idea on what’s up with Henderson?
I had that kind of pain right before my inguinal hernia surgery…

Yep, “neither of them”!

A year ago, watching Liverpool there was this sense that we’d always score… eventually, even in tough games. Maybe it’s the lack of crowd, but these guys are professional athletes who surely spend hours and hours working on unlocking defences. The fact we frequently fail in this task so pathetically - especially at home - is a source of huge concern.

And it has very little to do with VVD’s injury or Klopp’s overall tactical approach in my view. It’s to do with low intensity, poor mentality and an inability to think quickly when a route is closed down. We’re slow, dull and predictable. With the right personnel, I feel like any coach with half a braincell could defend against us at the moment and not feel under “pressure”. That sounds like an exaggeration, but I’ve been giving the boys the benefit of the doubt in these scenarios for months now, assuming they’re just off days. It’s increasingly clear they’re not.

Win the Champions League…you’re having a laugh aren’t you.
Four home games and one goal to show for it. We will be lucky to finish in the top half of the Premiership. Jurgen has got to change the system as everyone and his dog knows how to play against us now. Our passing is woefully slow and sideways and backwards. Bobby needs to be sat on the bench for at least the next six games alongside Origi. The high line needs pissing off and Nat Phillips to keep his place. We have become the laughing stock.

It seemed odd he felt he could play on, thought it looked like a Hamstring, if it was I thought it maybe a tear but the fact he stayed on it’s probably just a pull.

Anyhow I think that ends his time at the back, not that he has done much wrong but we need to consider him in midfield when he is back, hopefully for the CL.

Don’t see why he is playing there anyhow mind anymore he would offer better protection and more option further forward.

I’m honestly a bit lost as to why we’re not scoring. No PL goals from open play in 2021 as yet. That’s not a great stat.

Seriously open to ideas.

Can’t put to words how disgusting that was. Truly revolting from the opening exchange to the last kick. We come off a good performance knowing that we absolutely needed to win to stay in contention for top 4 and this is how we play? Against the fucking bitters in Anfield? Are they for real?

Klopp needs to put the boot in. Standards haven’t just slipped they have plummeted. Injuries have destroyed the season but these pathetic performances at Anfield are inexcusable. Whoever is playing at CB doesn’t determine how hard the rest should be playing. It does not give them card blanche to play at snail’s pace, lose every 50-50 ball and barely make a run to support a teammate. I’m sick and tired of watching them stay still, never attacking the ball or the space. Enough is enough. They were flying against Leipzig, they couldn’t be bothered to take two steps forward against the fucking bitters.

The only one who really looked hungry and up for it was TAA. Robertson too but he isn’t close to his best. The rest varied from piss poor to shockingly bad with the top 3 the worst. Mane was the most active but lost the ball almost every time he came in contact with it. Salah spent the entire match in Digne’s pocket and Firmino’s game is summed up by his two shots: pitiful.

As unthinkable as it was at the beginning of this season, it’s becoming more and more obvious that we’ll finish outside the top-4 maybe even top-6. The defence was suspect enough with Henderson and Kabak but with Phillips in, it’s almost a lock. We might have a chance if Klopp tears them a new one and they start playing with some urgency but after 4 losses in a row at Anfield and 6 in the last 8, it doesn’t look likely.

P.S. Kavanagh is a cunt.

and I’m not just talking about the decision to leave the Inbetweeners off the comedy series poll

The only saving grace is the final is at Istanbul this season !! Hope the spirit somehow get us back there !!

I’m not even angry about our performances any more. It’s still a long way off but I’m looking forward to August after we’ve hit the reset button, hopefully in front of actual crowds so that playing at Anfield is no longer playing at a neutral venue.

Ah…fuck this season up the arse.

Well, in the Prem, we are in relegation form. We did amazingly well up till December to cover for the injury crises. On a run of four losses.

So it’s all falling apart. Back to basics should be the theme for the next few games. The two CB slots should be filled by two of the three remaining and fit centre backs.

Drop the defensive line a bit deeper to accommodate this. Keep shape for the first 20 minutes on games to avoid giving away a cheap goal to teams who park the bus.

Never mind if it’s 0-0 at HT. Keep the patience. We still carve out chances, and getting Salah and Mane in the right positions will help our team.

Maybe even rest Bobby for a couple of games, and play a diamond with either Shaq or Curtis there.

If it’s just a pulled hammy then it’s good news really.

Agreed on your last part. It’d be better if the remaining players will be used in their best positions… we need Henderson more in midfield than at the back. CB is what we have Phillips, Davies, Kabak and other for.
