Post Match: Liverpool v Everton (EPL 20/2/21 5.30pm)

FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! …
I will read and post after I’ve calmed down a bit but even then it will be far from pleasant!

Our midfield balance is off as well. Thiago and Gini were never gonna cut it as DMs and our most advanced midfielder is a 20 years old kid who is not matured yet…Of course, we are leaking goals left, right, centre…

Then stop playing high-intensity game when it is not working. Switch to say, Benitez-style defense and counter-attack cannot be worse than losing 4 matches in a row.

Again, it’s salt in the wound. If not for the pen, we’d have lost 1-0.

Make no mistake, penalty or not, this was a shite performance. I have never seen supposedly world class players so wasteful(I’m targeting several players); be it in possession or when passing the ball. At times, very poor decision making in the final third. There’s no rhythm or urgency in our play.

Now for the manager, he got it right at the start of the 2nd half. Mane was moved in a more central position and he was making a difference. Likewise Trent was combining really well with Salah at times (Something we should be seeing in all areas of the pitch).
However, imo the entry of Shaqiri upset the whole balance. We were less dangerous. The 2nd goal killed us, no use debating anything of note after that.

All possession and no action.

It’s easy and convenient to isolate the team’s and manager’s performance with what is happening with us with respect to refs and injuries. But it is not mutually exclusive. Today was as blatant cheating as it can get. Call it cheating, deliberate or bias whichever seems fine, but the real fact is it is happening. And it affects the players and managers.

And no, it was not just this match where it happened and the players should have just ignored it and moved on. Imagine you not getting fouls match after match, your almost every touch, shove or push to an opposition player given a foul and a 10x times nastier done on you getting ignored. Every offside decision is somehow millimeters in favor of the opposition. How can we always be on the wrong side of the line, for or against being offside? No matter how professional you are, no matter what you get ‘paid’ for it, these are humans playing the game. You cannot put two warriors against one another, then cut off ones’ arms and expect him to keep fighting as good as the other, just because he is a ‘warrior’.

Add injuries on top of this absolute injustice being served match after match, and you can see why we are struggling. I am not saying that the players and everyone associated should be absolutely absolved of any blame. But I can totally empathize what might be going through their minds watching games being so blatantly biased against them by the refs.

Do not consider the two in isolation, performances are a concern but ‘keeping aside the refs, injuries, covid, etc.’ and expect everyone to maintain same levels is not practical thought.

I watched the whole match. We were lethargic, with slow passes that went nowhere. When are we going to learn that high possession against weaker sides at Anfield means fuck all. It hasn’t meant anything all season.

As for the chances, most those on target came in the first half if I’m not mistaken (?) or were shots from distance. The Salah one towards the end we should have scored, but we created v little of not towards the end of the match. Honestly, we could have played another hour and I’d have been pleasantly surprised if we bundled it in.

Our defence is so weak, we cannot even do park the bus tactics.

Please tell me there is a way we can salvage something.

How do we approach the next few games?

We have 4 games in the space of 11 days in March

Exactly.

If Salah did a DCL for that penalty, he would’ve got a yellow for diving.

Digne wraps his hand around Salah’s waist, but of course no foul given.

He’ll be glad of the rest before the world cup

And you seem chronically incapable of understanding how losing our first five centre backs can hurt a team.

Again, please tell me which team has had to cope with adversity like that? And if you don’t want to offer an answer, do me a favour and stol posting shit about my mental capacity.

So if we lose a couple more and end up playing U18s in Premier League games, the injuries shouldn’t be an issue.

In that case, we even bother building a squad of superstars. Let’s just get a load of lads from League Two and turn them out got us. After all, it’s only about the ability to adapt, isn’t it.

Fuck me. The absolute shit you find yourself arguing with.

*Win the CL.

Not exactly an ideal situation to even start to believe that but…

Park the bus/Giving your opponent initiative and then counter-attack will at least save energy and reduce potential injuries. In addition, it will be some thing new that may catch opponents off-guard.

This one hurts a lot, losing to Blue :poop:. It wasn’t a penalty, but I don’t think it would’ve changed the result anyhow. When teams setup the low block against us, we are pretty much done deal. We have no answers in solving this enigma. We haven’t score an open play goal in 2021 and we’re almost in March . Our CB are too slow to play the high line and with Trent and Robbo up field all the time it leaves the CB exposed to counter. However, Phillips and Kabak was shit today anyways, so it wouldn’t have mattered.
I think the front three has peaked, and I hate to say it, it’s definitely time to break them up. Sadio has really loss his form, aside from being responsible defensively, he loss that ability to beat defenders and his passing seems to have eluded him as well. Bobby has really passed his prime and I think if Jota can come into the team he should come out for him. Mo is good, but can’t always rely on him, plus he’s too eccentric at times.
Our Midfield is in a really bad shape too. It looks like Hendo will be out for a while now and Fab will be playing CB when he’s back. Our go to is now Gini, Jones, and Thiago. I just feel the way we setup sometimes doesn’t suit them being on together at the same time. We need a dynamic midfield that can open the game for us and runs at defender. Ox used to be that player, but he’s no longer the player he used to be. If we were to spend money in the summer I would invest heavily in this position. I would even put Jota in mid to get by until the end of the season.
Allison was fine today, can’t fault him on any of the goals.
Injuries have really hampered us this year, no question about it. But what worries me is the lack of depth of the squad and the lack of creativity in approaching games. We seem to be stuck in second gear and can’t go any faster other than burning a lot of gas and making a lot of noise.
It is what is for this remainder of the season, I’m still confident we’ll get top 4, but there will be more frustrating nights until this season is over.

Stranger things have happened this season, but yeah it’s a long shot…
