However when you look at it seriously there’s so much more to it which I outlined.
Personally I’d be very worried about the players motivation if a few old men on the internet ‘forced’ the issue. My hunch would be there’s a lot more going on than the sensitivity of the player!

It was a bit more than a few old men on the internet. It was an absolutely toxic social media pile on. He was scapegoated for the failure of last season.

I was watching a podcast with Ben Elton being the guest and he said he didn’t look at critics reviews and ignored them, however, he would be chatting to a friend or work collegue who would comment if he had seen what so and so had written about him criticising his latest project etc.
What I am getting at it isn’t whether a player follows social media and what pundits supposed fans are saying about it, but what inherently happens he will hear about it and like many said he was pretty much criticised for everything bad about us.
Doesn’t matter what players say, criticism can have a factor in their decisions and doesn’t matter what anyones says, we all want to loved or at least appreciated.

refs are still shite and getting worse. I have a deep feeling that part of their contract states, they must ( not have to), give decisions against LFC , when they are scheduled to ref the game. Yes, I have no proof, but these type of decisions happen every season, and some of them most blatantly ( chelski player actually putting his foot on Benayoun, ronaldo kicking out at Jones, while he was on the floor). These kind of decisions happen to us every season, but unless I am totally biased, I don’t really recall such ridiculous decisions when we are in the European competitions. PL refs are probably the worst in the world.

Watched the match and delighted to see Munoz score in his home (PL) debut. Hopefully many, many more to come front him. I think, last season we would have lost the game after they got their undeserved ( foul throw and coming together of Ali and Williams) pen. Players need a bit of time to gel under a new manager and also not having got a normal pre-season .

The ones sabotaging the bridge were Edwards, Hughes and Slot. Last summer.

Question for the group: what’s going wrong in this situation?
I rewatched the Forest game, this is a split second before their goalie hoofs it up the pitch, ending with the first goal.
I marked where Virgil is, assuming he’s the one who sets the line in those sort of situations. Is that reasonable to assume? He didn’t seem to try to get his teammates to follow him, it looked more like a case of every man for himself.

The line and togetherness could be better but you can see in that still we have bodies to cover their players more or less (4 against 5 but still 4 players is potentially enough). So something went wrong in tracking men or organising the situation.
You can see Gakpo with the eventual goal scorer at the top, Jacquet and Mac with one each, Kerkez with one and a spare behind Van Dijk that could potentially have been picked up or crowded. We´re slightly outnumbered but it´s still enough to present a much tougher challenge to their attack than we did.
In my view, Mac should have left the player the ball goes to to Jacquet and gone to the goal scorer or the player who got the assist. Gakpo left the scorer too which means they have 3v2 there, and Mac and Jacquet end up going for the same player so 2 are free.
There are two answers and both are bad. Either yes, and he didnt do it (and it wasnt a case of no one following him, but he very clearly just ambled forward concerned only with his position). Or no, and he strolled out way ahead of where the line was supposed to be anyway.
But the answer is mostly definitely yes. You dont introduce a 20 year old kid making his second start and put that responsibility on him.
Every bit of analysis of what we could have done differently once the ball has dropped is already looking at a situation of digging ourselves out a hole.

For me if you are in Virgils position, the leader of the back 4, you should be in line with the last man and talking along the line so that everyone comes out together.
Although Jacquet should have the awareness that he is behind the other players and move quicker to catch up, as he was the one playing them onside and as was said with Virg he was jogging out slowly, but he will learn from this.
