I haven’t seen any of that either, progressing with the ball then divering until the opposition take the ball off him and counter attack is what I remember.

Why would you want Szobo playing RB in the long term if he has “zero defensive awareness”, what because he can put a good cross in the box? He’s 6ft+ and can run a bit, yeah fuck it he’ll do. We’ve seen Dom at RB doesn’t work for the better of the team, so why would we go down the road of revisiting old problems?
& How do you work out Macca being the least of our problems, he was partially at fault for the first by being soft as baby shit & he was one of our worst players last season and both Dom/Grav carry the ball better than he does. He does nothing exceptional and he can find himself very lucky to still be at the club.

I think you are in denial about what was going on through our struggles last season and continues
Don´t agree with the other guy about midfield as Forest were clearly on top of us first half but I also think it´s true that we were less open to the counter.
Mac wasn´t dribbling it to their box and losing the ball like Grav did against Newcastle, and by virtue of being further back, we were less vulnerable to being countered. He wasn´t great or anything but I think it was somewhat of an improvement.
You’ve been spoken to about your behaviour by the mods before. Either clearly explain your position or don’t comment.
Denigrating someone else’s views especially without any explanation of your position is not wanted here.

Not sure what you’re talking about. I made my points clear and more than once. Re that Gakpo was being scapegoated for last season and continued into the new season

We’re going from “Szobo is wasted at RB last season, and being our player of the season best used in his natural position, midfield”, to “he’s our problem in midfield, but he’s a great RB, let’s solve our midfield problems by playing him at RB”.
And it can so easily change back, just watch!

The first half, bar a sequence or two of play, was poor. Liverpool ponderous in attack, and far too open defensively. Easily could have conceded three if it wasn’t for last gasp interventions from Jacquet and Alisson.
The second half was much better, and you can see flashes of how devastating we could be going forward if everything comes together. Especially with Munoz - his pace and aggression and direct play was quite refreshing after a year of watching our forwards play as if the were running in quicksand. A Barcola/Munoz wing will be very very scary for opponents.
Rio looked better on the LW.
Wirtz made multiple excellent decisions on the ball and tracked back immensely. I wish they would feed him over and over. Good things happen when he’s in possession. He helped make both goals happen.
Isak’s goal was a tap-in, but good strikers sniff out that opportunity and take advantage. I can’t tell you how often we’ve made crosses where no one was waiting at the back post.
Frimpong was better defensively but offered nothing in attack. Kerkez was poor all around.
I forgot Szoboszlai was even on the pitch at times.
Macca was very very solid. Looked like the Macca of old.

I think there’s a lot to feel good about, but I will feel even better when Barcola arrives.

It’s mindboggling yet equally impressive how easily the average mind can be swayed when it comes to football.
News to me but apparently a handful of games at the world cup is a bigger indicator than a whole season in the PL/CL when it comes to assessing whether a player is capable of playing at the intensity we require.
I’d much rather trust in Iraola’s coaching ability to knock some tactical discipline in the midfield, instead of looking at square pegs in round holes.

What I found interesting was that the improvement didnt come immediately, as if it was some adjustment or insight he gave them at half time. In fact there were a lot of comments about how we didnt get the reaction Iraola was probably looking for in that first 15 minutes. But some time around around 60 minutes the game, before the subs, it started to turn

It’s a silly feeling. There is noway a small group of grumpy old codgers on a forum could influence anything of this sort.
You should look at his wages his return and the fact that the club is doing nothing to stop him moving, in fact encouraging it from what I see.
I think you’ll find the number crunchers have calculated all this out. This will not be over how many Gakpo shirts are sold. Performance wages who’s coming in at what cost …

We are just so unbalanced. Lump a ball over the top. We are so predictable. Hughes. Whoever. It’s an absolute joke.
This is the PL he’ll adjust eventually. JJ also realises this is a faster pace than in ligue 1 and he will also step up and end up the finished article. I am really puzzled that supporters are picking faults already with those two when they have only just begun.
