Post Match: Liverpool v Forest (EPL 29/8/26 12.30pm)

How about Wirtz as false 9, Isak booted and a 3-man midfield.

We could give Milly a coaching job.

It’s a soft pen. If the ref didn’t give it, VAR wouldn’t get involved, and the incident would be quickly forgotten.

Mo Salah could get taken out with a two footed challenge, but as he’d get the ball away, the media wouldn’t even dream of it actually being a pen.

That comment talked about Hendo. Agree about Milner getting a job, though.

Won’t work…as you want the false 9 to be work horse and win challenges, which wirtz isn’t meant for. Igor Jesus or Evanilson like player.
They don’t make 'em like Bobby anymore.

The FB situation is more worrying than anything else. We’ll start playing the right way, it’s already happening in patches, but it’s a question if we have one good FB between Kerkez, Tsimikas, Frimpong and Bradley and the latter is always injured.

One solution would be to use Szoboszlai there, but that means that you’d effectively forego his conversion to the type of midfielder that Iraola’s system needs.

Two scrappy points against two teams that will more than likely finish mid table at best. It’s early days but the signs aren’t great. Our two fullbacks must be the worst pairing in the league. Poor passing and terrible crossers of the ball. We are far too slow in the transition from defence to attack with VVD being the worst culprit. I think that it’s imperative that we sign at least one fullback before the window closes. It’s going to be a long long season.

The RB wasn’t missing he covered around 3 times at the beginning of the 2nd half alone.

The only time he didn’t was for the 2nd goal where it looked like he was passing him on to Jacquet, wrong decision.

On that goal, 4 players reacting too slow, I will excuse Jacquet a little as he had just got up from the tackle.

Referee should have pulled Delap back for taking the throw too quickly, to make up for how long they were taking on long thows, lol

Back in 2017/2018, behind Coutinho there were Can/Wijnaldum and Henderson, who were completely different midfielders to the likes of Macca/Grav/Szobo.

I’d like to buy Scott to mold him into a new Henderson, and pair him with Macca/Nyoni in the double pivot. Szobo should either play RB, RW or rotate with Wirtz in the No.10 position.

That is why a lot of people are critical of him today…Couldn’t fucking cross and defensively bad especially the second goal

Hugo out long term. Isak is not Mo and cannot play every game 90 mins. Cheisa out injured and has never really claimed a spot. Gakpo played false 9 under Klopp, but could be on the way out.

So some solutions are needed.

Milner was just as critical to the setting of standards as Hendo was, so if Hendo is not available, Milly is a perfect alternative.

And he would sort this shit out in not time

He was a lot better today, but he faded as the game wore on which is typical. Still, he’d be a sight to behold if we ever become a high-flying team again.

He wasn’t defensively bad just in that one situation, the rest was fine.

Going forward a different matter.

Neither FB had a bad game defensively it is the offensive side that is the issue.

Has anyone mentioned Jim bloody Beglin yet?

Thought Mac was okay really. Few nice passes and was more or less in position.

Obviously not quite good enough but our options at the moment are limited.

Would like to see Nyoni start, sit in front of the back four and pass forward.

Poor again. It’s only the second game of the season, but that was dreadful. We might not even compete for the title, based on our start so far. There’s no real control or authority in our performances. Serious improvement is needed, because these issues aren’t going away on their own. Quality certainly lacking.

Hate him, that’s the issue being at the arse end of the World we get him all the time as a commentator.

The concern I have is the naivety in the defending across 2 games. And it’s a naivety of bad decision making but more of the importance of effort, and of doing the work to get into position early. That’s something a new manager can sometimes shake out of a group but that is the sort of thing that happens in the first week of training if it’s going to happen. If it’s still there I don’t know that you shake it out of them without replacing one or two of them with someone who simply enjoys the dirty work of defending. Virgil needs to be asking himself some questions I think.
