Yeah thought both were generally fine in defence. Absolutely terrible going forward. Run fast, give ball away, repeat
First game of the season at home, I like everyone else, was hoping for a win - but it wasn’t to be.
Leaving aside the result and the various controversies/talking points there were two things I found a bit frustrating, One was VVD and the other Dom. Both seem to spend more time waving their hands about and dithering on the ball than getting on with it. Their manner was casual and entitled for the most part. On the positive, I thought Cody and Munoz had really good games. I thought Frimpong and Mac were also pretty good but Kerkez was a bit off if for some reason.
On the whole, we were ok, maybe slightly the better team and again we showed the fight to come back into the match twice.
Unless we get a good RB and a good RW before the deadline…
Szoboszlai has to play rb
Gakpo has to stay to play rw ( shared with Munoz
Macca, Grav and nyoni options for mid 2
And Barcola/ rio on left.
Only way to get through this season.

I am very sure that they will work on it, but I have to admit that I really miss Hugo.
I thought Munoz was very good playing RW today and Conor Bradley is very close to starting at RB .
Big turning point

Barcola can also play on the right as well, and can play there better than Gakpo.
Does it matter if he scores every 13 touches?
I blame Arne.
Surprised it was that many ![]()
More effort than a Slot side, that’s it and it’s not meant as a compliment.
It took Arne 6 months to start breaking Klopps Liverpool which won him the league. It’ll take Iraola some time to get the team to change. He deserves a full season.
Gerrard was doing the magnanimous former player routine when stating the penalty was correct. Proper analysis of the slo-mo reply shows Neco gets the ball without any impeding from Ali and shoots wide. You can see Neco’s watching where the shot is going and then moves his foot to draw the contact and is going down even before Ali touches him. Both players have a right to go for the ball and it’s more of a coming together after the play than a foul denying a goalscoring opportunity.
It’s clever from Neco who is a smart player a(nd maybe one we should have never let go) but it’s far too borderline to be a pen. The contact is minimal and way less decisive than the blatant shove in the back Munoz got as he raced clear on goal in the penalty area.
But let’s face it, the officials were shocking all round and I’ve said that before when Yockshire Sam Barrott is involved. I can’t believe Barrott told VVD that Ali ‘cleared him out’. That’s plainly wrong and means he didn’t see the incident properly, but then he’s relying on Michael Oliver to correct him. Yeah, right.
barcola

Munoz was good but still raw. So we still need more experience there with him.
Only if Barcola is equally effective on the right… otherwise we need Barcola at his best. In his best position.
