Post match: Liverpool v Fulham (EPL 12/9/26 3pm)

It is still do-able now. We should try our best to not play the Szobo-Gravenberch pivot as much as we can. If we want these 3 on the pitch, Szobo should occupy the RW position with Araujo behind him while Macca/Trey partners Gravenberch.

At the very least, Szobo still can give a mean cross.

If Camara comes in, then we have the option of rotating Gravenberch, Szobo and Macca and Nyoni in the middle of the park.

European game and League game within 3 days is a new thing for Iraola.

I think he will learn that maybe the game right after is not the rotating game. It’s the cup game next week. And maybe 2 or 3 players rotated next weekends game vs Bournemouth.

Wirtz and Szobo looked like they actually should have sat this one out however because wow. Really poor today.

Again, It’s ok to feel disappointed but patience needed. We are going to experience set backs this season.

Just loves a finesse shot. Rarely seen him use laces

Wirtz did a really top class touch and bit of quick feet but then took too long to get the left foot shot off and scuffed it wide as the defender closed in

He just needs to be a quicker and sharper in his actions. Maybe lack of confidence is a factor

The battle for 5th is going to be the best thing about the league this season.

Another 32 points and we should be safe.

One of those games where you could sense how the lads were not on the same wavelength. Frustrating to watch of course but its a part of the process. One step forward against atletico one step backwards today. Jacquet was the only one who had a positive performance.

Again as every other postmatch thread so far this season its very tiresome to read how player x y z are so shit that its a disgrace to even watch them play. Has rawk become the forum with the more intelligent and balanced discussion? Genuine question, haven’t been there for a few years.

It was a functional system that had run its course and we rightly identified a need to evolve the team.
May take longer than expected but I’m quite confident that it will work

A functional system that dominated the league for 3 quarters of a season and ended winning a league title. Stop with the gaslighting it was some broken system.

And which the manager and the leadership team, based on the data, determined needed to evolve

Just watched the game, worst performance of the season, hate having a go at our players want them all to do well, but how Gravenberch came back out at half time is beyond me. Also, Szob wasn’t much better.

I am fully onboard that we need another player in midfield that can progress the ball forward with quality passing.

We have pace out wide but no one can hit them from deep.

Wirtz works his socks off but had a poor game, but he turns with the ball and no movement looking to get in behind, in fact our movement up top was rather poor.

Most promising player at progressing the ball preseason was Nyoni and doesn’t get a look in, has to now be in front of Grav.

Only player, for me with real credit, was Jacquet.

Absolutely brainless, if Szobosliding there wasn’t stupid enough…he even sticks his hand out in front of the ball and could’ve easily cost us.

Spot on.

And on Nyoni, I can´t understand why he isnt´getting a look in. Best player in pre season and our midfield is clearly lacking exactly what he does. He will get a turn eventually im sure, at least.

Its clear Nyoni has to play…

But…

The manager has to play the players on big wages first. Give them all the opportunities possible before putting in Nyoni.

The good thing is… Iraola doesnt need an excuse to put Nyoni in cup games over the established players.

So i reckon, if Nyoni shines for instance against Tottenham. It will be easier to put him in PL games, going forward.

We shouldn’t expect that we will coast without any setbacks in a season where the manager is still learning about the team and the team is still adjusting to the new tactics.

On Nyoni, I believe he will get chances before long. This is clearly still a period where the manager is experimenting… and it makes sense for him to figure out what the senior players bring first.

Personally I was surprised by some of the subs though. I’m a big fan of Koumas and feel his energy could have forced a few more opportunities for us in place of Wirtz who looked lost here.

Anyone else feel that Grav was still playing Slot ball?

For me he always seemed too deep and never pushing up to press!

Not just aimed at Grav, I am fed up of our players ball watching, especially in midfield, they just seem oblivious of their man peeling off and running into the channels unchallenged.

Why is it clear Nyoni has to play he 231 minutes of first team football in his career. This is the exact same thing people did with Rio.
