Because he showed it in preseason and deserves an opportunity and how does a player with only 231 minutes get more without playing seems an oxymoron.
Plus if players need a rest at this moment Grav doesn’t ‘deserve’ a start.

Which then ended up after the “Evolution” the manager out the door and the evolution still causing issues where he fits.
Fixed
Preseason under no pressure thats a barometer of premier league football.
Is that like when you said Mac shouldn’t be starting ![]()
Just watched that abject crap on delay. Fuck me, what a frustrating game to sit through. Add to that having to watch it on ‘Goal Rush’ when they are constantly cutting to other matches played at the same time. Whoever thought of that format needs a kicking.
We genuinely must have some of the softest players in the league. So easy to dispossess and far too nice when the game gets scrappy.
Szobo does an unbelievable amount of running, but so often fuck all actually comes from it. Wirtz loses possession far too easily. The midfield just looks completely unbalanced when Mac isn’t in there.
There’s obviously plenty of talent in this side, but we desperately need a couple of tenacious, snide pricks in that midfield. Players who are horrible to play against, win the second balls, leave a foot in when needed and refuse to get bullied.
Far too passive. Far too soft. And fucking painful to watch today.
So if someone looks good in preseason you ignore them cos there is no pressure?
As I said before how does a young get minutes, how do you assess whether he can play under pressure if he doesn’t get more minutes.
He hasn’t let us down when getting minutes, when it seems he actually helps us control a game whilst still making progressive passes.
Lastly, the other ones in his position have been lacking.
Yep Macca has proved me wrong and has played well, but if Macca doesn’t start, Grav’s cameos and today’s start means Trey should move one rung up the ladder.
No energy, we used it all up in midweek. It will take Iraola time to get these players into shape.
Effing hate it, saw last night when scheduling to tape the game that it was on Goal rush, simply awful way to watch your favourite team.
I still maintain, of course Klopp was tired, but he was also tired of not seeing the squad overhauled properly. He saw this coming. As with, the club needing deeper pockets to stay competitive at the top of the game. And here we are.
Best midfielder in preseason. Grav is playing shite. Dom is not great in that centre mid 2.
Nyoni should be given a chance… and if you read my post. I was willing to give him the Tottenham start. And judge him accordingly.
Also just because he is young and inexperienced doesn’t mean he cant do the job.
Young players eventually have to play to get better. And given our struggles in centre mid… why not give him a chance.
Fucking garbage.
Out of the title race in mid-September unless you want to delude yourself.
Fulham, pointless until today, looked the better team. Let that sink in. A pile of fucking shite turn up at Anfield and make us look like the clueless, abject, no-hopers that we are.
3 best players were 3 lads who had never kicked a ball for us before August.
Frimpong.
I genuinely feel sorry for Iraola. Dealt a shit hand. If he can get these fucking gobshites to finish top half he’ll have done a great job.
I’ve watched this team for 53 years. I’ve seen great, good, average and bad. These are fucking bad.
I don’t know whether Hughes was the problem or whether FSG simply weren’t prepared to give him the backing, but either way we were absolutely crying out for midfield reinforcements and somehow did nothing about it.
I read somewhere that the argument was we couldn’t afford to spend much more after last season’s outlay. Yet someone else pointed out that we could apparently spend another £500m and still be within the limits. No idea how accurate that figure is, but if it’s even remotely close then “we couldn’t afford it” doesn’t really stack up.
Whatever the truth behind the scenes, the squad looks unbalanced and it was obvious we needed more in midfield. Some physicality, aggression and players who are an absolute bastard to play against. We’ve got plenty of nice footballers. We needed a couple of high energy, robust players.
Did you ever think we would be in it? After last season, it was pretty clear to me we won’t really be in a title race before the 28/29 season. We are still resting on parts of the foundation of Klopp’s teams, with Becker and VvD needing replacement soon enough. There isn’t really a position on the field where we really cannot improve, and unfortunately some of the biggest questions are around some of the most recent acquisitions.
Today I put down to rhythm. Iraola knows he needs to rotate the squad for two games a week, but it isn’t just tired legs that make a team come out flat.
He hasn’t been ignored he has come on in 2 of the 4 games played and possibly starts against Spurs.
We need stronger metality along with greater physicality. I look at this team and ask where are the leaders? When Ali and Virg are gone, which could be in 12 months, who do you see on that squad who are born to the captaincy? None of them.
We have three £100m+ players. We shouldn’t be out of the title race already… I didnt say we have to win. But we should challenge and put pressure on Arsenal/ City.
So this is embarrassing.
While most of us, rightfully believe we are not true contenders. We shouldn’t have such abysmal performances like this at home.
And at least top 4 and a minor trophy should be the goal this season.
Player of the match vote.
Wirtz doesnt even make the list of options?
And I was thinking of voting for him
, if only for effort, the rest were so bad…
Weve already dropped 4 points at home to teams who will be in bottom third.
Really not good enough.
Weve gone from klopps squad who we adored to a squad (except Ali , jacquet and Virg) who i wouldnt give a toss if any of them left tomorrow.
Weve spent a fortune yet somehow are an unbalanced mess. Last summer was a shit show.
Been reminiscing on the way back to London from Anfield. Really at the point of an era shift in our team and not just any era, our most successful era of modern times. In the short space of time (relatively) we won the Champions League and two league titles which we hadn’t done for quite some time (we should, by rights, have two more titles but that’s another story). In order to achieve that, we had the benefit of truly legendary talents for our team and some generational talents in their positions. So we can’t just replace Mo , Sadio, Robbo, Trent or Firmino. Players like them don’t grow on trees. Not only that, you can’t find exact facsimiles of such unique talents. It’s like trying to find a replacement for Stevie G. You just can’t do it. You just have to come up with new ways of winning matches regularly. And that’s what we’re trying to do. Yeah, I have my gripes about the midfield but let’s give this new project a chance and let’s endure through the hard daysn because I do think we’re gonna get better and something good will come out of it. But the club and the players need our support through this trying period.
