Post Match: Liverpool v Leeds Utd (EPL 12/9/2020 5.30pm

My thoughts:.

  • lively start. I thought we started extremely well. The penalty came and it was back to our ‘old habits die hard’, or in our case never at all, in terms of taking our foot off the pedal after scoring early.

  • yes we know the mistakes both CB’s made (Gomez first, VVD going on a walkabout for their third). We are defending where we left off at the end of last season. Desperately need to get back concentrating and having the two CB’s in sync again. That will hopefully come with time.

  • I actually thought our interplay in midfield and attack was quite brilliant. It was beautiful football to watch at times, and the constant movement made it look like Leeds had a million holes in their defence. I’m actually excited to see where this season takes us and the sort of performances we may have ahead.

A probably expected sloppy start to the season but from that performance is difficult to question the hunger of this team.

I thought it was more the inability to control the game in MF that led to the open game and much of how the game played out…Gini and especially Naby got caught in the carousel too often.

Too much instability in our shape in the NP phase meant that the pressing regime didn’t work so well… and enabled the run behind the defense.

Yes our game is based on intensity, but control is the building block.

I should have said stinker by his standards. He was most certainly below par IMO

Brilliant from Sadio today.

I feel like Phil Connors waking up in Punxsutawney.

Early season. Check.

Poor performance. Check.

3 points. Check.

Moaners. Check.

Like that movie, this too will have a happy ending.

Well if you only meant relative to his normal standards, I can let it pass. Virg had the ball twice and their goalie once in the back of the net. Just saying!

Yet another home win for the Red machine.

Where’s our fucking matchday revenue John?!

…or, another 87-to win it again! :innocent:

Linda? Is that you? I gave you your allowance for September already.

I’m too old for this rollercoaster so early in the season.

At times. At other times he might have chosen better options. Like giving the ball as quickly as possible to the midfield so they could recycle it to Mo.

Because it was a fun game and we won. It’s ok to enjoy things.

You thought he played well? Scoring twice from set pieces doesn’t mean you had a good game as a defender.

I will concede that VvD can have a stinker and still be the best player on the park but today was not one of his better performances. Quite memorable maybe given everything that went on I guess.

Overall though, I’m happy with the result. Only Mo looked really sharp and we have work to do.
I’m waiting for the first post to come in saying that Thiago would have made a difference. Am I too late?

Tough win but better than a convincing one imo.

The way they play from the back we should be able to score a few more against them.

Respect to Leeds for running more than our team - doesn’t happen often. I’m sure they will give problems to many teams.

Hope that Commando and Mrs Commando are okay. I think someone brought up that Commando has not been on TIA for about 2 months? Would love to read his write up of today’s match.

Alright Now disappeared from today’s match as well? I don’t recall seeing his posts today. Perhaps the 20 characters limit is messing him up?
