It was clearly onside, and Adrian didn’t have control of the ball. Not sure what everyone was complaining about in the match thread. Ours was a definite pen. I thought officials had a good game tbh.
Also, as much as I hate Cheaty, our games against them are just a different gravy. Remember when United and Chelsea used to play out bore draws or 1-0s. A 0-0 away was a victory for Mourinho. It’s just incredible every time we play City with both sides attacking for the entire game
Surprised that the ITV broadcast seemed to adjusted the volume louder from the Liverpool supporter end, while the world feed switched on the mics on the Shitty end. When I watched Sportsnet broadcast with Martin I am asleep Tyler, I did not hear much of the Liverpool fans singing earlier on. I am definitely tossing out the world feed recording.
So I sat this one out and glad I did for the result. While it wasn’t important in the grand scheme of things, it was good for Klopp to get this ‘trophy’ won, Nunez to get a goal and avoid being on the wrong side of the media obsession with Haaland v Nunez.
Hopefully I’ll be watching another 60 odd games on re-run this season.
Always nice to rip Citeh a new one, particularly so when their new super star was a fizzer,in this one, anyway.
Thiago MOTM for me,but Matip,Nunez(really looking a find).
Other than obvious match fitness and players still at varying degrees of stamina and fitness, we look raring to go. I think there is an obvious difference between when Firmino is in the team vs when Nunez is on. But its all good when Nunez integrates into the plays and the other players start understanding where he likes to run etc. But for a team who lost in a couple of its preseason matches…I think this shield would have more than made up for our devastating loss of the Bangkok Century Cup.
I thought Adrian had control of the ball. Granted, the timing is tight, but he had it under control and it looked to me like Foden went through Adrian’s arm and the ball then popped out for Alvarez to score.
Not a big deal as we went on to win anyway, but that’s what I instantly thought, and continued to think after the replay.
The VAR check for offside took an age, and I thought they were investigating the wrong part of the incident.
It’s a nice problem to have, with the riches we have in central defence. Matip is excellent, especially since we took the time to get him right and allow the time to properly get over a few injury niggles. Konate is more raw, but he was coming along really nicely last season and was edging ahead of Matip. And Gomez was Virg’s partner before a bad injury, and he will come again.
Steady on. I expect they’ll be singing about Bangkok at old toilet long after we’ve forgotten about a mere charity shield. No we’ll have to go and win number 20 in May before we can even think about putting it behind us.
I was watching in a pub with volume down, and I thought the foul on Adrian was the reason for the VAR check. This being my thought, the duration of the check wasn’t an issue.
I was of course wrong as the offside was the issue under scrutiny.
The decision not to look at the foul on Adrian was incorrect.
And the lenght of time on the penalty decision was a joke.
