‘We showed up against world’s best team’

FT: Liverpool 1-0 Man City

Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to Sky Sports: "Result, perfect. Performance, really, really good, in an incredibly intense game.

"We defended at an incredibly high level for 99 minutes almost. They had their moments but especially in the box we did extremely well.

"This was for us obviously big today. We showed up today and that is all we wanted to do.

"City didnt have these counter attack situations, we had them three times. The situation around the goal is just sensational awareness from Alisson and outstanding from Mo. He might miss one but he will not miss two in a similar situation.

“Goals decide the game but there were so many good football moments against what I would say is the best football team isn’t the world.”

On Diogo Jota’s injury: “We miss the next one with Diogo. He felt real pain in that moment but I have no idea how bad it is. If Diogo stays down it is not good.”

On his red card: “In the end, probably deserved, but you cannot have this situation. It is the clearest foul I ever saw in front of the linesman and he is not bothered. It is clear. They just watch the game but we [the managers] are involved.”

On whether Mo Salah was supposed to come off: “No he was not supposed to be off, I wanted to speak to him. I did not know the number showed up, that was not the plan.”

On what the win means: "Three points. We have to recover. Wednesday West ham is coming here and that is the next tough one.

“It was really good, it was the best that could happen here today.”

Yep! put in an enormous shift.
Some fans just are never happy!
I’m as high as a kite, VVD playing, all our players putting in a shift and a win to boot, what more can you ask for?
Oh! yes the ref was a big cheating … so we DO have something to moan about if we want to moan, and we do!

I was super pissed the second half with the refs to notice anything worthwhile

VAR could get involved as ref obviously didn’t see the pull - which means that VAR can say that there is a disreprency with his version of events.

ALso, without the pull, Fab had shielded the ball, and was just gonna mop it up. The only controversy is the shit stirring by Sky.

You knew what they would push straight awy.

You can tell when Man City are upset you get all this bull, anyhow all the talk of Haaland and Nunez and it’s Salah of course it is.

Our goal came from a foul to them which was a nothing one considering what he had let go by all game.

Joe Gomez was on fire. Aggressive in all his actions. Didn’t dally and waste half a sec - when he saw a chance to run out to protect Milner, he did it with 100% comitment. That ball was his.

Southgate will still go for Slabhead though.

Liverpool are back, Virgil is back, Milner rolled back the years. We put on the best performance since the charity shield and officials were atrocious but we still came out on top. Virgil, Gomez and Salah were fantastic but everyone played their part. Onwards and upwards.

Again nothing about this in the studio analysis. If he doesn’t pull the shirt, he doesnt get the ball to create the chance.

Really lost interest in sky moaning a long time ago, laws of the game it’s a foul, it’s not just one slight tug he keeps his hand tugging the shirt it’s a foul switch it and it’s a foul against us.

Fuck em there is no controversy it’s the old VAR intervened, but that’s what it’s there for, to intervene on obvious errors and that is what that was, I’d rather VAR did that every day of the week than what we get sometimes.

VAR intervening doesn’t mean it’s dubious every time, often if I’m honest it means a mistake was made and that’s rectified same goes for the offside against Everton.

Anyhow glad to see our players bitch at the ref just before it.

Today’s win means nothing if we don’t beat West Ham on Wednesday.

To be fair, when you’ve paid for a service…

For real. Me too. I hope he tears him a new one. Use the fouls on Mo as evidence

Couldn’t watch. We smashed them and they’re whining, is that about it?

But it does though, means there is still a team in there willing to fight, confidence is/was low but the last few games will have helped.

The aim is to keep it up hence why the next match matters but thankfully we wake up on a Monday happy for once.
