Post Match: Liverpool v Man Utd (EPL 17/1/2021 4.30pm)

Time to panic?? Don’t be daft.

A little concerned? Most certainly as we’re not playing anywhere near our potential.

if we can snap out if it we’ll be back in it. But we need to do it quickly

I’ve always found it fascinating how the governing bodies of this sport are able to adapt the rules to continue their subtle ways to continue to affect the outcomes through “marginal” calls. If there’s any doubt of match fixing, I don’t know how. Great how we got a kick at the can last year and raised the trophy, but clearly that’s not happening this year given how the Everton game went (Thiago and VVD injuries) and the subsequent bullshit calls that have gone against us. our front three are getting fucking mugged on a weekly basis without reprisal. Have a look at what happened to Mane yesterday getting hauled to the the ground, and 15 seconds later Fabinho gets his hand up above Bruno’s shoulder and they call it a foul

fucking scandalous, indeed.

This this this!!!

As regards we did nothing on the CB front in the transfer window. We bought Thiago and Jota. And went with Fabinho replacing Lovren as the 4th CB. For me a masterly piece of business, the Jota transfer making me even happier.
I think it is proved that Fabinho is a better 4th choice CB than Lovren.
Now who could have forseen 2 of our players being taken out with thuggish tackles.

The front 3 are misfiring but it happens.

The ref blowing early shouldn’t happen ever!!! And that he did with Mane clean through is inexplicable unless you think bent, agenda, bias.

Big difference on this was that Martial came in to Shaqs space, not like Harry Kane who doesnt watch the ball but actually moves deliberately under the player as he jumps, so far me it was a foul by Martial

Also the freekick that Fernandes had I think 1 or 2 phases before one of their players was offside and no flag went up due to this stupid new rule and it could have easily cost us. Would love the refereeing of the game to go back to how it was I hate this not flagging for offsides and also VAR

Hit the nail on the head by trying to walk past players, they are both better, especially Mane when they use their speed and directness against opposition defenders, they are taking too many touches and the defender gets set, they need to drive at them at pace or use a quick decisive move with pace to beat then. Also by slowing it down they allow recovering players to support the full backs.

We also seem to be really lacking in movement whether that is the front 3 or midfielders bursting into the box or beyond our forwards, which they need to do to upset the defensive shape. It feels so awkward watching usnin the final phase of plays.

You mentioned goalies clutching it to their chests, the one that gets me is when they catch a routine cross or shot and the fall to the ground keeping it safe and then spend 12 to 15 seconds before releasing it, I wish the refs would ref the game to the rules and the 6 seconds that a keeper has to release the ball once it is in his control. Would definitely benefit us as a team and how we play.

I’ve had them given against me many moons ago. No contesting the ball by all accounts :man_shrugging: basically obstruction despite actually winning the ball.

I never understood it either.

As a goalie you’re all just nitpicking we got fucked over on that penalty thing while the fuckers can still stutter and stop it seems before they kick it.

Though I have never ever seen goalies be brought up for those kicks that evidently are outside the box.

I remember Becker doing it and us scoring from it a few years back before VAR but one of the goalies recently in a match did it on every single one, probably because they all sailed out of play nothing happened.

John Barnes: "Thiago, who was running the game and was the best player in the first-half, I don’t think that necessarily helped the front three. Thiago slows the game down. When he slowed it down in tight areas, that is not Mane’s game, that is not Salah’s game.“

I like it when the do finally get the yellow card out, deep into injury time, and the goalie goes ‘yeah, sound. No worries’. It’s the most ineffectual yellow in the game.

With respect to Barnesy, he’s talking absolute shite on this one.

Richard keys came out with the same crap and also said Liverpool were scared stiff of man u. One of the most clueless fools associated with the game.

Is that the same Richard Keys who spouted that we hadn’t won the League mathematically (in March)? Or the same Richard Keys who got fired for making misogynistic jokes on air?

Or the same Richard Keys that was screwing his daughters friend whilst his wife was undergoing chemo?

Yes he is the most loathesome person ever Andy Gray to a lesser extent

Thiago doesn’t slow us down, quite the opposite. He moves the ball forward better than any other midfielder we have.

Watch the games against Newcastle and Villa’s u10s and tell me Thiago slowed us down when he came on. Absolute bollocks of the highest order.

John Barnes, brilliant player, love him. Always will. Lesser coach, it’s allowed. He’s giving his opinion but that’s about it. Respectfully I disagree. Mind you, cracking rapper too! Get in!
