Post Match: Liverpool v Man Utd (EPL 17/1/2021 4.30pm)

There is nothing in the laws about contesting a ball on the air!! All Shaq did was make sure he didnt get clattered in the head, for me the way Martial went in endangered himself and potentially Shaq.

But what would we expect from a ref against us

You can kick it outside the box as long as you release from your hands inside the box/penalty area

Apparently OGS is disappointed Manure missed their opportunity to defeat LFC. Hilarious. He came not to lose hoping to maybe nick a goal. If he REALLY thought they had a chance to beat us, he would have had a slightly more adventurous game plan. Pussy!
We dominated, final ball, final shot just lacking.

And the Shaq free kick was a joke. Shaq was already in position to win the ball. He doesn’t have to move out the way. No foul. Actually yes a foul. Martial on Shaq.

Like I said I was confused by it as well. Ok to shield a ball out of play but not one in the air or coming towards you. Apparently you’re supposed to jump.

Daft.

See it loads where a player supposedly shields the ball out of play but actually fouls as he leaves the ball to play the man

OGS just copied the tactics that most teams are employing against us these days. West Brom, Newcastle and Southampton to name three. All got at least a draw, assisted by our woeful finishing. It very nearly paid off for him during the last ten minutes as well, Allison’s save from Pogba saved the game for us. I think I’m also right in saying that although we dominated possession, Utd had more attempts on target. I don’t understand why we are so reluctant to have a shot from around the edge of the box. If you don’t shoot, you don’t score.

We did have 15 shots compared to their 7, the big difference is they blocked 5 of ours we blocked 2 of theirs.

Shots on target is an overrated stat. Eg, shots that hit the woodwork are not counted as on target if I’m not mistaken.

They are counted as on target if the original shot would have been inside the frame of the goal but was deflected onto the woodwork (same applies to shots wide or over). They are not counted as on target if they hit the frame of the goal, as the net is the target, not the frame.

We dominated the play but didn’t turn it into enough clear cut chances. We currently lack sharpness up front. It will return, just have to keep working.

They sat back, mostly, but were also dangerous on the break and had two very good chances to claim all three points themselves.

Overall they will be happy to go to Anfield, draw, and stay top of the league.

For us it wasn’t disastrous as it was a draw, so we can’t go overboard. However, if we want to challenge for the league we have to snap out of this quickly.

Man Utd won’t win the league as they have a small to mid team mentality. Unfortunately Man City look most likely, at this point.

Still a long way to go and it can all change quickly. It’s not quite firing for us right now, but we have to keep working hard and see what the season brings.

Exactly, so you could hit the bar and post, have some really good chances but skuff or mishit the shot, the other hits a few outside the box, comfortably saved by the goalie, a few pea rollers and at the end of the game the statisticians are wetting themselves.
Quality of chances, ie the eye test is better in this case.

Best to lose a little bit of form at this stage of the season than in the final straight…
Once focus and performance return, the boys won’t lose it again

Bonus points for using this. I thought I was the only one left to use this term! :joy:
