Post Match: Liverpool v Man Utd (EPL 17/1/2021 4.30pm)

I just meant what you wrote was beautifully written. It was a compliment. I didn’t know what it had to do with my post you replied to but I agreed with the most of it.

Agee about the injuries. I love Klopp, but he took a gamble during the summer, by not getting in some CB coverage, and that gable has come back to bite the team. Without that CB coverage, not only do we have a weakened defence, but we have a weakened MF. It doesn’t look like CB is going to be addressed during the current window either, which is a bit frustrating.

First time I’ve watched without the fake crowd noise and you realise how hollow an experience this all is.

More than any team we’ve harnessed the power of the crowd and without it, it all just feels empty. No one can tell me it doesn’t affect the players too.

That, plus the loss of key players across the season, I’m surprised we’re as high as we are to be honest.

All well and good playing behind closed doors to finish a season already 75% done but this one will be a ghost season for me. One where every effort was made to carry on but everyone knows it’s not a true season, it’s just about keeping TV companies happy and the money coming in to keep the lights on.

Wake me up in August if we can actually do it properly.

I miss our full throttle, heavy metal, gegenpressing, and deadly counter attacking style of football, :frowning:

100% agreed. So much football to go but the margins are so thin this season. I do worry about The Boss tho. He’s just seemed so on edge these last few months.

Drawing all of our remaining games and we’ll end up with 54 points.

Reckon that will give us an easier season next year. Just sayin’.

The match has been hyped up so much. I stayed away from the news aggregator, and some of the discussions in the Pre-match thread. There were a little more negativity than I would like to see from our fan base. One wonders what has happened to “Doubters to Believers”?

Considering we have the 2 mid field players as CBs, against the attackers with decent pace from red Manc, my heart raced a bit more before the match. However, some of the brilliant interceptions by Hendo and Fabinho, the show of confidence and defiance by them, it alleviated my anxiety.

Lots of chances, however the bite was still missing. Robbo was a threat on the left. TAA appeared to be a little bit better, but not at his peak level yet. Gini, Thiago got dispossessed several times. Shaq did an admirable job. Our front 3 did not set our hearts racing with their attempts, as was commented on Sky.

The final 15 minutes was a lot more nerve wracking. 2 massive chances with great saves from Ali. What’s with all the fouls given against us by the ref, plus dangerous free kicks outside our box? The ref and linesmen were atrocious. Raise off-side against us almost immediately, while when red Manc was offside, the linesmen raised the flag in the pace of a sloth. Rant over.

3 picks:

  1. Ali: Saved our bacon once again with our lack of goals.
  2. Fab: Looked even more comfortable as CB today. Those long legs and good pace were put to good use.
  3. Hendo: Read the opposition attacks well, some crucial interceptions and tackles.

Big shout out to Robbo and Shaq. Played their hearts out today.

The thing is though it should really advantage the best teams. That’s to say when playing away from home the players aren’t having to contend with a hostile crowd giving the home team an edge. But just look at our away form , it’s abysmal.

I tried for 30 mins once and it just felt soulless, I just muted instead.

Agree with that but gambling is part of what do now when it comes to squad, and we’re very corporate when it comes to spending. It’s paid off for the last two years but, and also bearing in mind the intensity of our game, we were only ever an injury glut away from problems. It’s understandable really. Frustrating but understandable. But yes, you didn’t need to be a genius to spot we could have done with a decent replacement for Lovren :+1:

I’m really worried about him. The prickly interviews and picking fights with officials is just not him. There was a shot of him today , just before half time , and he just looked totally fed up with it all. (And that’s not the first time I’ve seen him like that.)

Can we all just go back to that Alisson save on Pogba? World class. Not the exact same situation, but felt like a bit of payback for all the times De Gea has single handedly kept them in games against us.

I should have done the same instead of enduring Martin Tyler fawning over their every move.

3 points off top at the half way point??

Oh I’ve had it on mute for a while when Sky cover it, can’t stand listening to Tyler anymore.

Lost patient with him on that they won the second half crap last year after Norwich.

Havent read the thread yer so it may have been mentioned already but for me it’s the CBs that are causing all the problems, not the front 3. Hendo is the most important midfielder for us when attacking, his diagonal passes, through passes etc so having him back as CB is robbing us of that. There’s also the fact that he allows TAA to go forward knowing Hendo will protect the RB spot.

Of course Fab, even though great as CB is missing from protecting our back 4. All that on top of the long passes we used to get from VVD means we’ve lost a big part of our attacking play. I’ve not looked up the stats but i’d be interested in seeing how much of an impact VVD and Hendo had on our goals last year, id be amazing if it wasn’t massive.

All that being said Bobby has looked out of sorts for a while now. Out of all our players his form seems the worst so i see Jota taking his place when he’s back until he can get his game together. Apart from that the only solution i can see apart from a miracle early comeback for Joe or VVD is to go out and buy a new CB. I think Hendo in midfield with a fit Matip back today and we’d have won this. Not because Hendo was bad at CB but because he was missed in midfield.

Anyway, Motm was Ali, Hendo and Fab for me. Shaq started well but faded a little after that yellow, Thiago was good too, the rest below par but i still think EVERYONES game will go up when we get the CB situation sorted. Can totally imagine a midfield of Thiago, Hendo and Gini tearing teams to shreds if we get 1 CB back, with 2 we’d have great options with Fab back in midfield.

I understand that we are witnessing the worst times since Klopp came in, and it might be that we blew our chances for the title in the past few weeks. But I definitely haven’t stopped believing in this team or any of its members, including the front three. I still believe this team will win titles for us.

Considering our injury setbacks this season, to be in the position we are in is a credit to all involved. We’re in a lull but we are capable of steaming back. I’ll be disappointed if we don’t bring a CB in this month but all in all we’ve done amazingly well to be where we are with everything that’s happened so far. If we get a bit more luck in the 2nd half of the season I still fancy us to win it  We fucking PISSED it last season, never forget! Underestimate us at your peril!!

We’re giving it a good go!!!

Still need to take the risk of shooting from outside the box. Thiago tried once or twice, but was expecting Shaqiri for that. Overall united defense played their best game so far, not surprising in the end.
