Post Match: Liverpool v Man Utd (EPL 17/1/2021 4.30pm)

I wonder would Klopp play Andy as Fabs CB partner if Tsimikas was fit, he did mention Andy was a candidate earlier in the season.

To be fair my annoyance is more with this season, I think we will be back I just don’t see a way of this rut until we see someone like Jota back and I think by then it will be too late

Shaq had a great chance after about five minutes in. Ball at his feet on the edge of the box with a clear sight at goal , and he bottled it and passed the ball. It’s inexplicable.

It’s odd they shoot when a pass is on and pass when a shot is probably the better option, I would make a point about the full backs their crosses that hit the first defender or go straight to them is annoying, though Robbo stuck a diamond one in but it was fluffed

Yeah I don’t feel confident about the title anymore. Just don’t get how some people here have completely lost it with the front three.

Agree that with Jota back the rut hopefully will be over. Or maybe if Thiago gets more in gel with the rest of the team in the next few games.

You didn’t enjoy that 4-1 when Torres terrorised them? Or the Shaq one that got Mourinho the sack?

Sold him for 75 just there on football manager now you mention it. Surely though in real life we will get a decent fee for him. Barcelona ? Or Bournemouth could give us it

Exactly and we will go again, we’re still the best team in England when we have our first eleven.

Highly recommend downloading HotMic and playing the Anfield Wrap commentary.

Hear ya, mate. I only get telly of course, but there is literally no home advantage to be seen—other than to know which portal to come in and out of.

On a lesser scale, it’s the same over here. Lifeless stadiums. Television drives everything.

Many would say: better than nothing, but I haven’t gotten past the sensation of merely watching a training match, a or a glorified friendly.

Sides like ours really feed off of the enthusiasm of the crowds. Hopefully that will return in due time.

Let’s face it, things could be worse. Our attack has gone to total shite at the moment. None of our front three could hit the goal even if their lives depended on it. Absolutely pitiful. And yet, we play the current leaders off the park. Poor leaders admittedly, but they have a solid defence and can play some quick counters.

MoM has to be Alli. He kept us in the game towards the end, when they thought that they could nick the three points from us after all. My two other votes go to Thiago and to Shaq. The two players who tried to make things happen. It wasn’t their fault that Robbo and Trent missed almost every single cross, and that the front three couldn’t string three passes together, or, when presented with a chance, couldn’t hit the target accurately.

Fabinho and Hendo deserve a mention for doing a solid job at the back. No complaints there, especially against some dangerous players. But they were sorely missed in midfield, especially Hendo.

Let’s face it, if no miracle happens (ie. Matip coming back soon and staying fit until the end; Bobby finding back his mojo; Jota coming back sooner than expected), we will not retain the title.

That is the simple, unemotional truth to take from this uninspiring game.

I know this group prefers the positive view on most things Liverpool, but is anyone else really bloody confused by Klopps decisions/tactics/subs at the moment and the clubs really stupid decision not to test the market for at least 1 CB?

We have a shot conversion rate over the last 4 games of 1.6%. It’s the first time since 2005 we haven’t scored across 3 games and the first time in gods knows how long we haven’t won in 4 matches. Yet nothing changes? Our front 3, collectively, have been wank for a month and individually Mane and Bobby has been god awful all season. But again, nothing changes, same formations, same tactics. Mini must really suck in training if he can’t get a look in at the moment.

Now CB issues, I can’t think of any other top club that would enter a transfer window with no fit first choice CB and start their 2 best midfielders there for more than 1 game, yet we insist on it. I refuse to believe there isn’t a decent free/loan/cheap option out there somewhere. Not spending 20m on a CB or 2, could end up costing us for me. We have in Edwards probably the best man in the game to find us the right option for a good price, and yet the clubs response" Times are tough, we aren’t spending". I really hope we aren’t looking back in 6/12/18/24 months at this season and pinpointing it as the time it started to go to shit.

agree on the CB. the most heartbreaking, and it is a bit heartbreaking becuase we waited thirty years, thing is, we are top of that cycle, this is our title to lose, it might still be, we have the best squad and the best manager, but we just lost all momentum now, it has the feel of fiddling while rome burns.

im not trying to be too melodramitic, but the irony of doing everything so well to get us to this point, where it is litterally just a tweak, and doing nothing, seems bizarre.

so bizarre that i just assume im looking at it wrongly…but i cant see any other way to look at it…

as for the attack, i think its just affected by the defence…still not good enough as they should be papering those cracks for us right now, but the whole set up has changed and its affected everything.

we can all point to COVID19 as a cause to not spend money, but surely the club after having won the CL and PL in the past 24 months has the ability to fund a critical transfer?

and when i say club, i mean the owners…only the most myopic cant see the increasing of wealth at the top end…they might just have to inject capital…

Well… as they obviously don’t do it, what is then the only logical conclusion?

FSG’s books have to be balanced nothing else is that important. :joy:

please re the edit.

inject capital into a dominant team,
