I agree with you, as well as probably most people watching LFC and understanding a thing or two about football. But why don’t they do it then? There has to be a logical reason?
I think he’s finally realised that there is an agenda against Liverpool and he is powerless against it.
Last season we were just too damn good for it to matter but, unless we are always twice as good as the opposition, it’s going to be very tough for us.
This current lockdown isn’t going to lift till at least early March. Then its more likely to be a tiered system for a bit after that it will mean come 11th of March only 6 thousand fans have been through gates in a full 12 months. What do you think has been paying bills that whole time.
Thats why i’m busy doubting myself…but you know what, the more it washes over me, the less i doubt myself on this one…
we need a CB at some point in the future, lets just say Upecamano, whose reportedly avaliable for 40 plus in the summer, if we pay a premium of 20 for him now, not only do we get an actual fit centre back, but he also gets half a season to bed in for next season…
now please dont drill down on those figures directly, but lets just assume they sound reasonable in the current COVID19 landscape…surely thats worth doing…
the overiding thing for me, is where we are in the cycle…if we were on the build side, or the managing the transition side, then fair enough, lets wait…but this is it, we ARE at the pinical, and really, theres no one touching us if we can get the players on the park…thats the worst thing, it feels like we are keeping our powder dry, when this IS the moment we should be attacking the market…
with the right purchase, and i know im being a tad fanciful here, but with the right purchase id even have us as one of the shortpriced for the CL in this strange season…
instead we see a general acceptance that this could be the start of the decline.
its also unfair on Klopp and the players who worked like absolute monsters to get us here…
it feels like a white flag.
Let’s see if John can find £60 million down the back of the sofa.
thats unfair really, im not suggesting he becomes a sugardaddy like Roman or Dubai, but inputting capital to a business that has quadrupled in value and is reliant on ongoing results isnt beyond in the realms of fantasy.
more club, not this team.
thats why i am adament the current players deserve the input of a CB.
fairy dust?
Your logic makes absolute sense, that is, if this player is on the club’s cards in the first place.
Indeed. But can he do it?
I get the impression that whenever someone questions him about it (presser etc), he gets ultra defensive and sort of forces him into selecting Bobby in order to show how valuable he considers him to be. I know its not, but it feels like it.
I am personally getting sick of hearing Jurgen telling us how much more he brings to the game other than scoring goals. Do something different If the guy is in shit form, and lets face it, he has been for a long, long time. As far as I am concerned when Jota was in form and flying high, that was the perfect time to rest Bobby, but no, he had to be used on a waste of time gave that literally gave us zero benefit. It would have been of more value to play Bobby against Midtjylland and rest Jota.
For Bobby I think he absolutely thrives on what the live crowd brings. I don’t think it’s coincidence that the only brief time he has looked ‘right’ this season has been when crowds were back. You could see a massive spring in his step when the crowd was singing his song.
We talk about the compressed season being a reason for the inconsistency all teams are facing this season, but, forgetting their exorbitant wages for a minute, could you imagine waking up Saturday morning and knowing you have a game in an empty stadium? It would be utterly depressing. I’m sure they all love football but this? This isn’t really football. Nobody dreams of this.
Its obvious that the front three are not at all on the same page at that moment, with a huge number of misplaced passes after an expected run doesn’t eventuate. The whole team including the front three are in a rut. We very rarely get through a season without experiencing a rut. The problem is we don’t have the crowd to dig is out of this one. Add to that the drive and desire isn’t there. We knew this was going to happen after finally breaking the drought last season. It’s just going to take a little while more than we are used to to dig ourselves out of this. I’m hoping we’ll have a significant victory soon that will start knocking the dominoes over.
A decent enough performance against a side competing at the top of the table.
I was pleased with Shaqiri’s contribution, for me he definitely offers more as a sort of 10 than Oxlade. Thiago is class, but both would fare better with Fab or Hendo in midfield alongside them.
And that’s the rub of it for me, the defensive injury crisis (currently four of six senior defenders injured) has taken our best two midfielders out of midfield, when you’d always want at least one of them in there. This in turn reduces the level of the midfield as a unit, and in turn that affects how everything links up as we attack.
Clearly the forwards are also off colour, and have been since not long after Jota was injured. That shows how important the need for competition for places is. Not sure when we’ll ever see the old Bobby again, he did after all get a rest of sorts in the spring, so shouldn’t be as fatigued as he appears to be.
Really can’t believe that we have three senior centre backs, two of whom are out for the season, the other likely to be out half the time, yet we aren’t going to do anything at all to help out with that when there’s an open transfer window.
I think we’ll improve when Matip can be available a bit more, as long as Alisson stays fit and when Jota returns.
Being in there for the title at the end will depend much on Matip, Alisson and Jota, plus other injuries being a bit better. I see United being impacted by the resumption of Europe, but City are steaming through and likely to be tough to match.
I think it’s important to remember that buying a CB could cause problems down the line. I’ve heard Klopp say in interviews “it’s a good problem to have” many players in form for the same position. But I think he’s almost always referring to on-field and that off-field it often causes headaches.
I truly believe Fab wants to stay at CB, but not necessarily because he loves playing there. I think he sees it as the avenue to breaking into the Brazilian team on a regular basis. I don’t think he’d want to go back to midfield. I think both Gomez and Virg will ease back into it next year, so it may look like we are very short for the rest of this season and early next, but I think when both of those are back we have too many options. And we’ll be in a situation again where we are needing to let a good player walk because he’s not played as regularly as he’d like, like Lovren.
If it wasn’t so difficult to get a loan signing in the January window, especially of the quality we need for CB, I would say that would be the correct approach. But alas can’t see it happening.
I thought Fab was outstanding. World class in fact. Read the game beautifully and marshaled anyone in his space.
Hendo was just as good, considering hes played it what once? He did fantastic.
Also sped up the ball coming from the back, and the drop off ball progression wise from Van Dijk wasn’t too big.
Agreed on that. Hendo was also incredible.
Pretty much standard match tempo at Anfield these days with the visiting team playing two banks of four looking to defend deep.
So our attacking set up was also standard, trying to play one of the front three in quickly or retaining possession looking to play someone in with combination play.
I think you need to give some credit to Lindelof and Jughead as they managed the space in behind well and got an inordinate number of headers and interceptions on the what would have been the final pass before a chance.
I don’t think it’s too far away from coming together again. It will certainly help having Hendo in midfield when Matip returns. Shaq showed he can be an option (particularly from the bench, he tends to do his best work coming on), Ox is there or there abouts and even big Div looked sharp when he came on. Jones is also a creative outlet in midfield.
All to play for, the only thing I really learned from today is United are pretty one dimensional and nothing special, much like the rest of the league bar City. City are still the team to beat in my eyes. Also Fernandes is a bit of a show pony, not very impressive in this one.
Don’t know if the decision to not get a CB in this month is a financial one but I do know it will be a false economy if we miss out on CL qualification. We need one anyway, not just to fill in for injuries, so it wouldn’t just have been dead money we were spending. Right now top 4 is in the balance, we have no answer to the bus-parkers and have been hindered all season by the authorities/officials to fulfil their desire to have a title race.
Bobby getting slaughtered as usual but what about Salah’s role in all this? Against a low block or whatever the fuck it’s called he’s about as much use as a chocolate tea-pot. When was the last time he turned a match against one of these sides? Pulled a bit of magic from somewhere? I can’t remember.
Imo one of the front 3 needs dropping for the next game and that means either Bobby or Mo. Keep Tiago and Shaqiri together and hope to fuck one of them can pick a pass to open up what will inevitably be a packed defence camped in their own box. Maybe go with a diamond of Hendo, Gini, Tiago and Shaq. Can’t be any worse than watching us bang our heads against a fucking brick wall for another 90 minutes.
Gave Ali MOTM today for a couple of big saves. Tiago and Fabinho got the other votes. Robbo was really subdued, don’t know if Jurgen told him to hang back and not over commit?
On Tierney. First of all it was a fucking scandalous decision to blow up early in the 1st half when Mane could have had a clear run on goal. But something happened in the 2nd half that would be even more bizarre unless I saw it wrong. He allowed play to continue with United in possession after we’d been caught offside, even the commentator said something about there being no need to bring play back, but that’s exactly what he did several times in the first half when we were looking to break. Like I say, I might be wrong, did anyone else see it like that?
As for the dropped points I’m not going to stress about it at all. Imo we’ve as good as thrown in our hand this season with regards to winning anything and might yet miss out on top 4 altogether. Even if Matip returns next game are we really expecting him to play over 25 games in the next 4 months if we progress in the CL?
We’ve drawn 7 games and only won 9.
We’re not winning it this year.
I just don’t see us going on a 20 game winning run.
Injuries have cost us along with being Blunt up front.
That was like watching paint dry for the most part.
First half we actually played pretty well and I was optimistic for the second half, which ended up being a steaming pile of horse manure.
The longer it went on, the more nervous I was, as I knew they were capable of nicking a goal at the end with their counter attack. Fortunately Ali was up to everything that came his way and made some outstanding saves - one of our best players today.
Would love to know what’s happened to Bobby, he does the opposite of what he should be doing; shoots when he should have passed and passes when he should shoot. His touch is terrible at the moment and the less said about missing the opportunity to set up Robbo the better. I hope he’s back to his best soon or Jota is fit.
Gini was solid and industrious, which highlights what I think @Mascot said in the Gini transfer thread. If he expects to be on similar wages to Salah etc then these are the games he needs to shine in. Be that player who pulls everyone else up and leads by example rather thant just making up the numbers. Didn’t do much wrong and just a similar performance we have come to expect from him, rather than something memorable.
Can’t see the scum genuinely contesting for the title and if we can get our shit together and stay in it to the end, our biggest challenger will be Citeh. If we don’t up our performance before we meet them next, things could get ugly though.
Time to get ourselves out of this funk lads. Up the Reds !
