I’m sure Matty has his…! :0)
I’m 100% convinced it’s the set up now.
Look at the vast difference in performances from 1st to 2nd halves, it’s night and day. Been this way all season long.
We’ve always looked better in the 2nd halves of games, particularly after subs (mainly Gomez & Harvey) comes on.
I actually think we will win next week. I don’t expect us to be destroyed like some are suggesting at any rate.
4.30pm on a Sunday has become the new 12.30pm on a Saturday.
Scumbags…
Just because someone is a twat shouldn’t not allow them to publicly slag off a player and question their mentality.
Oddest thing is this wasn’t a bad performance as in Luton wasn’t it was just an utterly disappointing result.
Like there was enough there but some of the attitudes and thinking is poor. I did say when some suggesting selling Jota that you need the rotation of forwards to keep them fresh though I didn’t expect 4 to be so poor.
And that’s the beauty with football: you can play like shit for a number of games as United have then solidify around one fixture and performance like a game against a massive rival.
ETH’s job was probably over had there been a heavy loss last night so it’s easy to build a scenario where the players would dig in and coaches would strategize the life out of this game to make it a scrappy, horrible draw.
This performance means nothing going into our Arsenal game. We could thrash them and WHU could thrash ManU and it won’t necessarily make yesterday a ‘missed opportunity’. United came to stifle the shit out of this game and succeeded. This time.
Plus Arsenal will try to attack us and our forwards are better with space. Still struggle to break down parked busses. I fancy us to beat Arsenal
I think you are being pretty loose with your ages there. Nunez is 24 1/2 yo. Suarez was 24 yo almost to the day when he arrived at Liverpool.
As I calculated in the last post-match thread, here is how Nunez is tracking with Salah at his age and now Suarez:
Goals + assists across all comps
Mo Salah
@22 yo (season 14/15): 1 every 140.0 mins
@23yo (season 15/16): 1 every 154.5 mins
@24yo (season 16/17): 1 every 93.7 mins
Luis Suarez
@24yo (season 10/11): 1 every 100 mins
Darwin Nunez
@22yo (season 21/22): 1 every 74.2 mins
@23yo (season 22/23): 1 every 124.5 mins
@24yo (season 23/24): 1 every 91.6 mins (updated)
So providing more goals and assists than Salah or Suarez did at the same age. He’s no spring chicken. But there are very very very few players in their early 20’s putting in the huge numbers some Liverpool fans expect.
Is he wasteful? I’m not sure how you can measure that accurately from stats but from the naked eye I feel like that’s an easy yes.
Is he frustrating to watch? Quite often, and that becomes infuriation when he is sitting offside without any logic behind it.
Is he getting better delivery and therefore more opportunities to score or assist than those two players got in their career at that time? Difficult to tell but perhaps this is something we could infer from stats if there was a place to accurately get them. I’m not actually sure that this would be a ‘yes’.
Regardless of the above, his actual output is tracking better than Suarez and Salah at the same age. That’s not to suggest for a second that I expect even a remotely close matching meteoric rise as we saw from both of these players from 25yo onward. Those two were world class. But its strange knowing how often forwards peak from their mid 20’s and with a player already delivering what he is that he is being labelled as rubbish from such a large section of the fanbase.
Nunez will be never be as good as Suarez or Salah.
Suarez could score a goal out of nothing. He could have 5 round him and he would wriggle through a score.
At start of season Nunez looked a bit better but has completely fallen off a cliff again and its come at the wrong time as all our forwards are out of form or injured.
At one point in last few weeks i thought his name was “Nunez offside”
Im all for moving him on in the summer as im not one of the “he brings chaos” brigade. Id prefer a cool lethal front man.
This. For all the (justified) complaints with finishing and final balls, we had their two #6s (one a kid, the other a donkey) on yellows for 60+ minutes and never really pressed that home.
It’s pointless comparing, but I was at a couple of games in Suarez first season and it was obvious we had something special.
As I said, I’m still hopeful for Darwin, that he will find his own trajectory to doing something special, but the jury is still out
Except that that’s something we don’t do.
We are overachieving at the moment without doubt so not being top doesn’t bother me. Id have taken 5th or 6th at this stage with all the midfield changes.
Sky kept saying Liverpool have dropped to 3rd…I was like, we haven’t played yet? But they need to make it sound dramatic.
But the likes of Szoboszlai and Ryan are bound to hit a duff period. Szoboszlai started off really well and this league and fixtures are relentless. But because Szoboszlai’s superb start his drop off is noticed a lot more. Ryan hasn’t really got going. Looks great one moment and poor the next. No idea why Jones and Elliott aren’t starting to give them a rest.
Diaz is another worry. Hes been so poor. Maybe he prefers playing with Robbo but where’s the Diaz we signed 2 years ago. Not been the same since the injury. Might be like VVD and take a bit longer to the best of him. Hes become too predictable and not scoring plus taking too many touches -all the signs of a player low on confidence.
Nunez is different all together. I just dont think he is very good and he needs to improve quickly - along with Diaz because at moment in an out of form Mo isnt scoring no one else looks capable.
I can’t imagine it is, but of course have no idea.
Arsenal and City- and many successful sides- would disagree.
Not going to lie, this result was very disappointing given our pole position and how important getting 3 points was as well as against a major rival which should really fire us up.
But to be fair, we haven’t been good the last few games, have probably deserved less points than we have on the basis of the last few games (even if we add the 2 points the ref stole from us many weeks ago), But even so, I thought since it was Manchester United, despite us not having played well, that we would step up a bit and beat them.
But we are not playing well. Was always strange to see us at the top of the table last round without having been truly good, when I have observed us almost stealing 3 pointers which should have been draws. But I was thinking that our position gave us the perfect chance to play us into form and become outstanding. But not in this game. Disappointing. But against United, I thought we would play “the big game”. We didn’t and this really disappoints me.
Yes, and I’m applying the “don’t feed the troll” rule here.
Don’t dignify his drivel with a response.
At some point we are going to refresh the attack. Of the three who started yesterday, Diaz-Nunez-Salah; for me, Nunez is the most likely to stay longer. It’s a little ironic, since we can all see his erratic finishing, but I think he will be here for a good while yet… and I’m also hopeful that he will start to bag a much healthier amount of goals.
About six months ago I said we won’t see Nunez at his best while Salah is in the team. It’s just a weird theory, but it’s what I think. Nunez defers to Salah too much, and looks for him too much. I think he would be better if he was a bit more selfish.
Salah is our most reliable source of goals and is still a smashing player, even if he has lost a couple of steps.
In a world where he goes to Saudi Arabia, and maybe Diaz goes to sunnier southern Europe, Barcelona if he can, I could see two new attackers coming in, and Nunez still here.
Put me down for Wirtz, for sure. As for the other, maybe Bakayoko?
I think our strikers will see some turnover, and the prediction I’m making is that Nunez survives it and kicks on.
Agreed. It’s just a disgruntled “fan” really (he still is, although he likes to shit on his own team), who gets incensed when the tables are turned and he thinks Virgil is then “arrogant”, because in his head Manchester United is supposed to be the top dog. It’s nothing, don’t understand why anyone cares and it would be very silly for Jurgen to comment on it. It’s not like it’s a well developed opinion given much thought. It’s just a snide reaction, common from opponents in this sport. Next game Roy will be snide about something else and someone else. He is not exactly the jolliest of men than man, lol.
