Most teams do, Brentford had great success that side.
I think this is where we are possibly missing Gini. He was much better at shutting down those passing options. He’d typically get closer to the opposition’s right-sided players than I’ve seen Keita or Jones get. He’d be much more in their faces, harrying them on the ball. For some reason, Robertson also seems to be standing a yard or two further off opponents than I remember as well - doesn’t seem to be closing them down as effectively as he has done in the past.
I think whoever played there (Neco, TAA or Milner) would’ve been targetted. Its our weak spot defensively.
Agree, my concern is City usually start average and then build up a head of steam and go on huge runs of wins…
The next 11 games will give us a good idea, on paper we should win all of them but Brentford shows the fragility of us conceeding currently.
Good job Salah has decided we are winning the league this year, superhuman.
It’s compounded this season by the tweak in our tactics, where Henderson, who would normally be shuttling to the right to double up, is under clear instructions to stay very high and press at all times
It’s good that Klopp is constantly tweaking to evolve, but I just think sometimes the game situation needs to come in play. Classic case was the 93rd minute, and Henderson next to Bobby pressing, City bypass it, and then it’s a 3 v 3 with everyone on their last legs.
Surprised the bald one didn’t put Torres on for the last 5 mins for him and Stirling to try to exploit this. Something that Jose would’ve done for sure.
I reckon if Gini was still here, Klopp would’ve probably liberated him this season to do his Dutch role more, going by the tactics in use. But of course, the classic Fab, GIni and Henderson trio would’ve used the positioning nous to carve out the win in this game and the Brentford game.
That’s the worry, They can easily go on a 20 match streak by rotating their players and keeping the same intensity. We could do that, but it would mean overplaying certain players which, though worked for a couple of years, is not a long term option.
Klopp is addressing this by actually rotaing much more than he usually does this early in the season.
It was all kicking off below me around about the time that Pep was throwing his toys about. I’d be really surprised and disappointed if someone spat. Most expensive seats in the ground too. To be fair at the end Pep was applauding the fans in the Main Stand and I didn’t get the impression he was being sarcastic. I think he enjoys being the panto villain and plays up to it. He’d love to be managing in an atmosphere like that every week.
Alisson had the shot covered but was beaten by the deflection off Matip.
We miss Gini out of possession. It’s why we’re looking less secure and easier to play through. One of his unsung super powers was his tactical and positional discipline. Not so amazing in possession. By using Elliott and now Curtis JK loses experience and tactical nous but he gains creativity and it’s why we are creating more chances. I guess JK sees Thiago as the optimum choice for the really big games because he gives you both the tactical experience and can create, but he needs to be fit.
Whilst I think he’s a proper rat Bernardo shows what Elliot and Jones should bring once they get the experience.
He was excellent at harrying in defense but also quick to spring into attack and carried the ball really well. At one point he went through our entire midfield/defence and had Van Dijk on his knees.
I think you’re right and I don’t know why that is so different to our left side.
Feared the worst by half time but the lads turned it around second half against one of the best club teams in Europe. Felt a bit sorry for Milly being left one on one continually against a talented youngster like Foden. Personally I thought he should have come off at half time. Two great goals from Mo and Sadio but just couldn’t hold onto the lead. After two really good performances Curtis struggled not helped by Henderson and Fabinho having off days. Allison kept us in it first half with two good saves but not much chance with the City goals. Fabinho should definitely won it for us near the end but it wasn’t to be. A slightly fortunate point but still early days.
Frustrating match, which I thought shows that right back remains the weakest part of the squad. Milner was in trouble out there all day, and most of the time the cushion he was giving Foden meant Foden was always available to cut into the center offer a short outlet for their midfield. That in turn put our uninspiring midfield into a hopeless position - we were really only able to get the expected ball pressure for perhaps 20 minutes in the first half.
Maybe Gomez should have come on earlier, but not really convinced of that either.
I see what you mean. Hopefully we settle down and show better solidity.

I think whoever played there (Neco, TAA or Milner) would’ve been targetted. Its our weak spot defensively.
City also clearly had a plan to use Jesus down the right, pull the defence across and then use the passing ability they have to create a quick cross field switch to Milner’s flank to isolate him in space.
The worrying thing was that it took us ages to get to grips with it.
That yellow card seems forced a change, otherwise adding a midfielder instead of Jota or even Gomez as RB and moving Milly to midfield instead of Hendo maybe could have helped and keeping Milly on the pitch itself.
You are not alone!

At the start he was talking about how Ferguson wouldn’t approve of the respect between Pep and Klopp. Who gives a flying fuck about Ferguson….just commentate on the actual game!!!
Its also factually incorrect. Ferguson was famous for having a glass of wine with opposing managers after games and treating them with respect (Wenger being the glaring exception - they hated each other).

Tyler is a proper wanker when commentating on Mo’s goal he has to mention about Milner not getting sent off. Knob.
Drury did fine on this . Couldn’t find the full commentary but he continued on it being PlayStation football, etc etc…
Please please Liverpool whoever is doing the negotiations with Salah’s reps the longer it takes the sooner the vultures will be circling. We cannot afford to let him go for free.
