Post match: Liverpool v Newcastle (EPL 16/12/21 8pm)

I didn’t post last night as it was way past my bedtime. Anyway Trent as MotM.

There were some traits of last season whereby once we have a couple of key players missing we seem to be all over the place but Keita looked the businesses when he came on and maybe should have started. A nod to him on the vote anyway.

I suspect that the next few matches may be called off. If they are, happy Christmas (or your equivalent seasonal celebration) to everyone.

Found the whole affair to be rather depressing to be honest. Positive cases before the game with more expected according to Klopp, average performance, non-existent atmosphere and the prospect of more game cancellations and postponements.

The win and Rafa doing us a solid were obviously good but it’s difficult to get excited with everything that’s happening.

He didn’t have a good game, seemed confused with the shirt colours

Exactly, Howe tripped himself up there, if the player was obviously dazed, as he says, why was he allowed to continue? It was utter B.S from Howe and he should have been challenged on that point.

Does the guy ever not talk out of his arse. Crazy how they want to look at the reactions and completely ignore the actual action. Baffling

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock told MOTD: “When you see a player go down holding his head, the reaction is straight away the referee blows his whistle. You can see players waving it is a head injury, you can clearly see Hayden is holding his head. Very surprised he doesn’t blow his whistle.”

Spot on . I panicked for a moment but credit to the Ref, he got it spot on. Having said that the player was very quickly back on the pitch and should have been booked for simulation

Not our best performance and hard to pick a stand out player but on the other hand hard to pick a poor individual performance as well. Another packed defence defeated. Onward and upward. Also a brief pat on the back to Rafa

Exactly it was total BS, he was not even hit in the head but in his back, you see him looking up, realizing that the ball is not cleared, and grabbing his head. Wanker.

If games have to be postponed because there are too many cases and it distorts the competition, so be it. Make a clean break of two weeks or so, and allow all teams to get their act together and reconstruct their respective ‘bubbles’. A nice Christmas/New Year’s break would be good for the players’ health anyway. And then restart in the new year, with healthy players and full squads.

The only thing I hope for is that they won’t reintroduce those awful ghost games. I’d prefer for the league to be canceled altogether rather than having to endure this shit again.

Regarding the game, it’s nice to come back from an early setback (Shelvey’s goal was a beauty to be fair, even if it resulted from Thiago’s error) and score three good goals when not in top form and missing some key players. Trent’s obviously takes the cake. What a shot!

A good night for us. Cheaty are in absolute top top top form currently, and still only one point ahead of us. Chelski drop points (thanks Rafa!), and we find ourselves in the chasing position, with Cheaty just ahead of us. It’s a good position to be in so far, let’s see how things unfold in the next weeks.

Exactly! I saw the replay and observed the player in question - there was no contact with his head, except with his hands clutching it. Deserved a yellow card for simulation and trying to illegally affect play.
And Trent’s strike would have made Gerrard proud!

In real time, I would have stopped the game. I would not have blamed the ref if he had. It took me watching replay several times to see that he had feigned injury (my focus was on other players making contact).

Felt we should have an a penalty for the push on Ox. Anywhere else on the pitch that is a foul.

Does anyone have a gif of Trent’s goal from behind his shoulder. Mike Dean scrambling out of the way in terror had me in splits and I want to relive the joy

The best possible punishment for feigning injury was the one we handed out last night. Concede a goal while you’re lying on the ground pretending to be hurt. He’ll think twice about doing it next time. Totally sick of seeing this in our games.

It doesn’t matter about the performance. We just need to keep winning. 8 in a row since the International break. Konate was excellent and I enjoyed the few minutes that Keita got off the bench.

Nobody would have blamed him at first and then we would have been outraged when we saw the replay. As it was, he obviously did have a good view of it and was strong enough to keep play going. Now the pundits are saying that he should have stopped play regardless which is utter bullshit. If it carries on like that then we will have someone drop to the floor as if shot at every second ball to get play stopped. Ridiculous how a very valid ruling is being subverted. Football, for all its popularity and the enjoyment it gives, is an absolute disgrace for the gamesmanship that has crept in and taken the game over the decades.

It’s already been posted above.

The ref should have blown for the head injury. The only reason he shouldn’t is if he saw the incident and knew the player was feigning injury, in which case he should have been carded.

What I don’t get is now the dust has settled and the replays show a cheating player, why is the manager doubling down on it instead of moving swiftly on?

Why is the post match analysis not including the extra information that the player had not sustained an injury, but only focusing on if the ref should have blown or not?

Is right Anfield…

This is a reference to Mike Dean btw. What a dummy run…

Is there any decent footage out there of the ‘head injury’ incident ?

Absolutely. I’m surprised more isn’t being made of that. He was clearly pushed over in the box. How was it not a penalty?
