Post match: Liverpool v Newcastle (EPL 24/4/21 12.30pm)

yeap it’s almost like we don’t learn from the past…
We talked about game management which is not exactly done via dark arts only…
We have hired consultants for throw-ins and we can’t hire someone from Italy to teach us how to hold on to a lead for 2 minutes?

So because of one bad season with so many added factors that are most probably not going to repeat themselves, you think Mane and Bobby forgot how to play football?

Why not just add an striker to replace Origi and a winger to replace Shaq, and those couple of players can be Jota-esque transfers that can make an impact and provide quality rotation?

Anyone calling for Mane to be replaced is a fucking crackpot.

We were at top in December, so it’s not even a complete season. Patience running thin very easily now, not sure why.

He doesn’t need replacing. He needs a fucking hug.

Has anyone thought about what the lad is dealing with? He got covid and that’s possibly affecting his performance. But Sadio is almost unique amongst the squad in that he isn’t married, and lives on his own. He has no family he can lean on and must be spending a lot of his time really lonely. He’s massively in his own head right now - leading to him doing stuff like trying to take touches when he can just side foot it into the goal.

And now he’s having to deal with cunts on social media DMing St Maximan to replace him.

Poor guy. More than anyone else at the club, possibly the league, he needs a full stadium to roar his name and tell him we love him.

Same nonsense with Salah.
Two of the top 5 footballers in the world and some supporters are not satisfied with them.
@Mascot makes very cogent observations about Mane just above.

Personally think if we could swap/almost swap Salah for Mbappe or Sancho plus enough cash for another Jota level striker then we should take it.

I’d keep Mane though.

I would hope that most people would rather keep Mo than Sadio if we HAD to lose one of the two.

It’s an interesting one. Despite Salah’s ridiculous numbers I still think I’d sell him first, but that might be down to the perception he’s not a team player more than anything else.

Very interesting. Salah can be frustrating at times, because he gets into so many good positions and can score a lot more than he currently does. And despite that he still is the best goal scorer we have consistently for years.

Mane on the other hand before the slump was unplayable at times. It’s easy to forget, but when the chips have been down, Mane usually has been the one putting in those amazing performances and getting us so many key goals. Even in the CL final against Madrid. He was the difference in so many games which would have been draws last season, where he has always persisted and worked his socks off games after games. He’s much more direct and loves taking on players, an aspect of game Salah had when he came here but has reduced or changed now. Salah however puts the ball in the net more than the rest, which is what matters the most.

Yeah, so I’ll sell Ox

It’s pretty ironic being called a crackpot by someone who espouses crackpot conspiracy theories.

I really didn’t know that Mane had had Covid. It’s not as if the club publicises that kind of thing. That would account for his lack of sharpness. Anyway, yes my reaction was a bit knee-jerky, but even so as has been said quite often on here, it’s likely that one or more of Salah, Mane and Firmino will probably get sold this summer because A) sell to buy and B) need to freshen up the front line.

Of those three, in my opinion, we keep the one that is truly world class and that is Mo Salah. As much as I would like us to buy Mbappe, I don’t see it happening. So we should keep the guy who scores the goals.

You big softie you. He needs a fine, 3 month suspension on bread and water and the sternest talking to since Caesar’s wife got rather grouchy with the senate after her husband didn’t turn up for tea.

I quite liked the idea on TAW of him needing several weeks in one of those Japanese sleep hotels.

You could be right, he needs the fans and company. Maybe that’s just rubbed off on the rest of the squad. Can we crowd fund him a cat for company?

You must mean a hospital. The food isn’t bad, but the rice is inedible.

I think that if Salah would be the one having performance problems in this crazy season you would be singing a different tune. My point is that this season is not regular enough to draw conclusions, whether for our position and performances or about individual players. I don’t think any player that has already proven being world class in the last 2-3 seasons needs to be sold to “freshen up” any areas.

If anything, we need to sell the ones that have not produced the expected in longer periods rather than just this season (we all know who they are), and use the income to provide the squad with quality depth/rotation.
