That was very good indeed. Measured. Controlled. Hard work. Good football. And we always seemed as though we had another gear to find if we needed it, but we didnāt, and a comfortable 2-0 win sees us go 13 points ahead of Arsenal, who have a game in hand.
The players now have a very well deserved couple of days off since we are out of the FA Cup, and while you never like to get knocked out, a big performance against PSG will more than make up for it.
The league looks wrapped up. But we canāt officially say that, and it will still take a while to get there, especially with only one Prem game in March. We just had a very tough run and easily could have taken 15 from 15 points, but we got 11 from 15 - dodgy officiating the main reason for that.
Arsenal will have hoped to close the gap in that period but instead it is now larger. Thirteen points, maybe ten if they win their game in hand, but they have a tough run coming up, and I see the gap growing even larger. Stick a fork in it. Itās done.
We have now earned the right to switch focus to the Champions League. A couple of days off, refresh, then train and focus on PSG. Canāt wait.
We would have probably already been given the guard of honour against Southampton if we werenāt screwed over by the referees in atleast 4 of the 7 drawn matches.
Everton(the cunt Oliver)
Fulham (where Periera was allowed to stay on)
Newcastle away
Are the ones I immediately recall. I remember refereeing screwing is over in one other game too.
Thatās atleast 8 points that the referees have stolen off of us , which in all likelihood would have had us being champions by the time we play Southampton.
Far easier than most of us could have expected. Isak being out helped but I donāt think heād have made much difference tbh. Groin injury by all accounts, might only be minor but if not he could be a big doubt for the final.
We played some great football tonight and looked after the ball better than we did at City. Maccaās goal came at just the right time to stop it getting nervy later on.
Attwell continues to be an absolute cunt. Heās allowed assaults on our players to go unpunished for years and tonight should have booked 2 Newcastle players for blatant fouls in the 1st half. Fuck him.
Macca, Szlobo and Diaz my MOTM.
Think we can win that disinteresting piece of silverware against this lot?
Very pleased with that result. Itās difficult to think that this was largely the same group of players that ran their legs off against City on Sunday.
Not a bad performance amongst them, but I thought Salah was exceptional and Szoboszlai is made from something special - this was the guy who collapsed on the pitch at the end of Sundayās game, but we just wind him up and off he goes.
Itās a 10 point buffer now, which is nice as we can relax and enjoy the league games (of which we have one in the whole of next month).
So a well earned weekās rest and on to PSG. No rest for the wickedā¦
What?
So weāre not wicked? In which sense of the word? Are you befuddled?
1980s street slang: āYeah, weāre wicked manā¦ā
Iām down with the kids, you seeā¦
Salah doesnāt belong in that photo!
Cant wait for next season, this ones become tedious.
NEXT.
Last time I checked, it was thirteen points.
Thereās no guarantee that Arsenal will win their game in hand, at home to Chelsea on 16th March.
Yeah, I always view this in terms of our games. Iām not sure whether thatās because I am a āglass half emptyā type of person, or because I couldnāt give two hoots about what our rivals are doing.
Fuck I love this team. That midfield in particular is other-worldly.
I also donāt take this team for granted. Of course I canāt look into the future, but I have a feeling we might lose a couple more players than the fans anticipate in the summer so this could legitimately be the best team we get for years and that doesnāt bother me.
Iām just enjoying what has become a procession thanks to the choking Arse. Letās peak towards the CL knockouts and show Europe what we are made of!
Are you thinking United will put up a fight? I think we might see a 2-2 draw in that match.
I think Utd will put up a fight. Arsenal will drop more points there.
Anyway, the outside of Mo Salahās boot is now deemed by military experts as a lethal weapon.
I genuinely donāt understand why any of our out of contract players would want to go anywhere else at this moment in time. I think , to a man , they all said at the start of the season that they wanted to see how good Slot was and which direction the club were headed.
Well , weāre champions elect in February , will probably win the League Cup in a couple of weeks and have to be amongst the favourites to lift olā big ears. And all that without him having got any of the types of players that he wants in yet.
We could be on the cusp of a new era of domination , so why on earth (apart from the obvious) would any of these players , who already have so much invested in the club and the city , want to be anywhere else ?
If they go they go , theyāll be replaced and weāll survive. But if they stay they will be talked about in years to come the way we talk about Dalglish , Rush and Gerard.
Attwell was a disgrace just for turning Hallās stonewall penalty to Salah into a Salah foul. VAR missing in action as well. Let them get away with several bookable offences. Stopped play as soon as Salah had broken free and was about to go one on one with Pope. It went unnoticed because we were excellent, but on another day it would have made a difference.
That was the only grievance from an otherwise nice game. That was my kind of performance. Solid as rock at the back, not allowing them a sniff, and always looking dangerous going forward. There were lots of great performers: Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch and others but the most pleasing were Diaz and TAA. Itās been a while since both of them were so good.
Plus the team spirit and comararderie seems brilliant and they may not get that togetherness at othe clubs
Interestingly several weeks back Carra was claiming Slot didnāt rate him, and would probably move him on.
.
Time to stop talking shite Carra.
Great performsnce last night.
The first goal was brilliant and exactly the way I have yearned for us to play since Dalglishās first managerial stint. Get round and behind, pull the ball back to a midfielder arriving in the box. Perfection.
As for winning the league. Not yet. I am still haunted by 1989 and 1997. Yes weāve come through a patch of tough fixtures but its not in the bag yet.
